Frankenmuth Is ‘Michigan’s Little Bavaria’—and It's the Best Small Town for Families

"Perched on a hill in the main part of town, Michigan’s original craft brewery brews German-style beers according to Reinheitsgebot (try The Hef), offers four-sample flights, and has a lovely outdoor terrace with river views—an inviting spot to sip and people-watch." - Katy Spratte Joyce Katy Spratte Joyce Katy Spratte Joyce is a food, business, and travel writer based in Omaha, Nebraska. Overall, we had a decent visit here. We both grabbed beer flights, and our favourite brews were Batch 69, the Hot Rocket Jalapeño Blonde, and the Christmas Beer which came with a cinnamon-sugar rim that was such a nice festive touch. Really enjoyed that. For an appetizer, we ordered the Truffle Parmesan Tots, and those were awesome; crispy, flavourful, and a great start to the meal. For my main, I went with the Brewery Burger. It was okay, not bad, not great. The bacon was crispy, and I liked that they served a fresh leaf of lettuce on the side instead of letting it steam on the burger. I just wish the patty itself was juicier, and a lot of the flavour ended up coming from the oil of the onion rings. Very average overall. My wife ordered the vegetarian Southwest Bowl and really enjoyed it; super fresh, and the cilantro amount was perfect. The one big downside: she found a piece of pulled pork in her supposedly vegetarian meal and had to pull it out of her mouth. Definitely something they need to be more careful with, especially when it comes to dietary restrictions. Worth checking out for the beer, but the food was a mixed bag for us. Stopped in to check out Frankenmuth Brewing after seeing that they were on the TagaBrew trail. I tried a flight that included their Christmas Ale, Pumpkin Ale, Pilsner, and Amber. All were delicious, but I especially liked the Pumpkin Ale and Amber. They are also (at least as of November 2025), running a special where you get a get a free souvenir glass with the purchase of a 20oz Christmas Town Ale, nice!! Nice restaurant/taproom with plenty of room. The patio looks nice and we enjoyed the view out the back of the restaurant. Clean restrooms. After spending the afternoon at Bronner’s we appreciated the restaurant not being completely “in your face” with Christmas. That’s to say that Christmas was present but not overwhelming. Service was fantastic. Our waitress (and my apologies for forgetting her name) was happy to answer questions and we enjoyed talking with her. She was present and helpful but didn’t “hover”. She also offered great suggestions for our flights. We didn’t try the food (sorry, we were planning on Zehender’s) but we will absolutely add this brewery as a stop during our annual visits to Frankenmuth.

This is a must do when we are in Frankenmuth. With both craft beer and wine this is a perfect combination for my husband and I. We enjoy the food and the pretzel is probably one of my favorites. They have a great store in front to get merchandise to go along with their beer. It is clean and has some great views. Our only challenge is with the parking. With limited space in the parking lot, if you don't get there early, you will most likely be parking across the street. It is a short distance but not always convenient.

We loved our dinner here! We booked ahead and got seated right away. The service was great and so was the food. I HIGHLY recommend the pretzel. I forgot to get a picture because I was so excited to eat it! I am a soft pretzel lover in general but theirs is truly above and beyond. The flash-fried brusselsprouts were absolutely delicious. We thought the pizza and pulled pork sandwich were just okay but everything else made this a 5 star experience. Also there's hardly any parking available at all, but we were able to find street parking just about 2 blocks away.

The SE MI Brewery Discovery Tour continues. A 93° Thursday afternoon in late July calls, no, screams, for a brewery stop. Since I'm heading "up north," Frankenmuth was a great spot for lunch & beer. And they are busy today. The ambient noise from all the conversations is a bit higher than I expected but not "wish I had ear plugs" loud. Sat at the bar. Sam is hustling. Food and drink orders are handled efficiently and professionally. And he checks in despite the load. Kudos. The food was tasty and arrived quickly. The beers are decent, though nothing stood out.

A great place to grab a pint and food while in Frakenmuth. Skip the German and chicken places. Especially if you've done it already. This is where you want to be. Fantastic beer selection, full bar for those that don't prefer beer, and everything was good. The service was excellent, our waitress was friendly, fast, and helpful with the menu. We could tell the other staff were also fun and provided great service. The food was great. We had cheese bread for the table and they did NOT skimp on the cheese. I had the beef dip, we had bratwurst, and all of it was excellent. Frakenmuth brewery gets full marks from me. I left fat and happy. Highly recommended.

The view from the patio is so relaxing. Frankie's Brat with Fries was a great choice. And the view was great. Our server, Andrea, was great and treated us like we were old friends. Great time and good beer.

Out of all the restaurants in Frankenmuth, this is the one I gravitate to. I am not really a big chicken person but I do like wings. I like that this place has a lot of different options so everyone can enjoy the food. The dining area is massive. We got a table near a wall and we were able to fit out wagon in. The only issue is we told the person 3 times we need high chairs and she never brought them. She gave my kids a menu but no crayons. Once our waiter came to get drinks, we told him the issues wnd he resolved them. Once we ordered our food, the only issue is that the wait is pretty long to get it. I gave my kids their snacks and stuff so that they wouldnt cry. They love eating my husband's fries. My husband got the chicken tender dinner and I got bbq boneless wings. We were going to try the spinach dip but we were told that it is frozen and not good. So glad we didnt order it. Next time I do want to try the pretzel because it looks amazing. The food came out hot. Our bill was super cheap. The waiter was also super nice and got us drink refills right away.
