Highlights

Frankfurt Airport is a sprawling hub blending regional and international travel with diverse dining and shopping options, though it's marred by inconsistent service and baffling terminal design.

This huge airport is not the most convenient airport to go from Terminal to terminal. It takes a tram and has to pass through lots of security. The good thing about the security is there are many workers compared to how many passengers are around. Our terminal is in the Z wing and there isn’t any airport clubs here. To get to the one in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 takes over 20 minutes to get to, have to take a tram and go through security again and again. 🤦🏻‍♂️

My experience with the immigration process at Frankfurt International Airport was excellent. The officers were friendly and even wished me well on my journey. To get from one terminal to Terminal 1, I had to take a shuttle, which was quite crowded. The airport shuttle moves very quickly, so it's important to be cautious while using it. There are also plenty of food options available, so keep that in mind during your visit

Not had a chance to explore too much but I was transitting to Muscat via Frankfurt so Terminal change was super smooth but the airport itself was basic. (T1 to T2) I regretted going through security as you will not find nothing to eat once you cross it, Usually other airports have wide range to pick between security and the gate. Looked decent and was pretty clean, I was present around 6pm and it was not busy at all.

Frankfurt Airport is well-connected and easy to access, with efficient train links to the city and beyond. The terminals are modern and offer a great selection of shops and restaurants. Staff are generally helpful, though during peak hours, service can feel a bit rushed. Security and passport control are well-organized but can get busy. Overall, a solid international hub with good facilities, though navigating between terminals can take time.

I'm citizen of Poland. Citizen of European Union. Living, working and paying taxes 18 years in Ireland. First time I feel bad. Bad when was not enough to check my brand new biometric passport, not enough to scan boarding card, not enough to hear that I work and live 18 years in Ireland. I need answer why I do not have Irish driving license.. At the end I need to find ANY document proving I live in Ireland. It happens to me in Frankfurt airport first time. I was landing and flying from here many times. I understand security reasons. But lady was really demanding to PROVE WITH EXTRA DOCUMENTS

2.5 hours early at gate to catch an international flight, but was told we can't sit at the gate because they are going to close the area for some reason. When we sat outside the gate, a happy little mouse was running freely around the empty room. How lovely 😨 I was there enough time to capture some pictures and videos of the little mouse and its friend. The two restrooms I used on level 2 B area were smelling like strong urine. No toilet seat paper cover was provided. One of the restrooms was out of soap. Pros: Free wifi for 24h. There is plenty of comfortable seating area. Lots of shops and restaurants.

The land of Lufthansa. Major transit hub. Please reserve enough time for transit as the airport is expansive. From one end to the other end, may take 30 mins. If you have long late over, try out the transits hotel.

Frankfurt Airport is a sprawling, characterless labyrinth of gates, meticulously designed to embody a purpose-driven, stone-cold efficiency that feels almost existentially German. It’s less an airport and more a high-functioning human herding facility, perfectly suited for those who find joy in moving from one queue to another with military precision. Grace, charm, or even a hint of warmth? Forget it. These concepts were clearly checked at the design stage - probably deemed "unnecessary" or worse. The flight information screens are, fittingly, sparse and strategically hidden, as if the mere act of finding your gate is a test of worthiness. The underlying message seems clear: if you can’t navigate this place, perhaps you don’t deserve to leave. And the employees? It’s as though some of them have made it their life’s work to ensure your experience is as uncomfortable as possible, with an oddly satisfying glint in their eyes when they achieve peak bureaucratic misery. Truly, they’re the unsung artists of travel disruption. But let’s not ignore its brilliance. Frankfurt Airport will never bore you. Whether your connection is 30 minutes or 6 hours, you’ll be running - between gates, security checks, and customs queues that feel engineered to stretch the limits of human patience. And the queuing system? A masterclass in control. There’s always someone watching, guarding, or correcting your position in line, ready to create order where chaos dares to peek through. Now, if you dare to stray from the script - relax, chat on the phone, or (heaven forbid) crack a joke - you’ll witness something magical: confusion. The finely-tuned system falters, employees look genuinely stunned, and the delicate balance of order teeters on the edge. Here, individuality is the real troublemaker. So, hats off to Frankfurt Airport for excelling at what it does: transforming air travel into a rigid, meticulously choreographed endurance challenge. The stars? They’re for how frighteningly good they are at this game.

Yelp
If you're there for an extended period of time on a layover, it's worth getting lounge access at any of the Lufthansa lounges. They are top notch and catering to your needs. Whether it's a relaxing spa or short term beds or really delicious food, the lounge is your r&r between travels. The airport is massive and I use it frequently for connections.

Jason H.

Yelp
Massive! The FRA Airport may be just fine for people who naturally or fluently speak German. I don't, so I cannot confirm. However, after traveling many airports around the world, I've found that trying to pick up your bags and then finding your rental car to be quite challenging. Landing at FRA with checked baggage was the biggest pain of the visit. First, it's a never ending airport with no clear direction to find the baggage pick up carousels. I did have to ask one person, who luckily spoke English, and even then his directions sort of had me going in the right direction. After a while, I found the area. Then the fun began. Getting through customs was a breeze. They really do that right and the interrogations are quick and painless. Once I arrived at the baggage carousel, I was surprised to see a note on the screen notifying the people on my flight that they bags were delayed and kindly asked us to be patient. It was about 45 minutes, after arriving to the baggage carousel, before any bags came out. Even then, there were only about 20 bags that came out. After another 25 minutes of waiting, I walked over to the baggage issue office and they said that "they've found the bags and they're on the way". Found the bags?!?!? Anyway, after more waiting, bags were coming out a few at a time, with delays between each batch, until mine finally shot out the chute. Approximately two hours of waiting. I fairly easily made it over to the rental car counters. Out of the 8 or so rental car vendors in this area, I had rented with Enterprise. The only company that had a line about 50+ deep with 2 people working the counter. After 45 minutes, I was given the keys to my car and the parking spot location of where to find my car. The journey to the car was the most fun bit. If you follow the arrows on the signs to the rental car locations, you will find that they lead you to the dead end of a hallway. If you really pay attention, as you're walking down this hall, you see the doors that lead to the rental car parking garage, but you cannot really tell where these doors take you. By each door, they have a parking section number which is what you need to look for. Once you find your parking section, you'll find your parking spot number, where your car should be. After a few hit-and-miss attempts, I found my car. In all, it took about 3 hours to get from the plane that I arrived on into my rental car. On the flipside, returning to FRA to fly out wasn't really much of a hassle at all. As I was dreading it, I was pleasantly surprised that it was easy to return the vehicle and be on your way towards your gate or lounge. Rental Car Word Of Caution: GAS! You have the option to pre-pay gas. If you're driving a lot, then just go for it and make your life simple. If you return the car without filling the tank, it's not just a little bit more per liter, but about 5x as expensive. As I didn't get gas, the woman checking me in gave me the advice and opportunity to go fill it up and return as it would have been a huge charge to return it empty. There is a Shell Gas Station right there at the airport. If you're returning a vehicle, set your GPS to the Shell at FRA airport. Once you're finished, the Rental Car Return entrance is right there. No problem. Once you're inside and past Security, it's all good. If you have the ability to visit any of the airline lounges, take advantage of this as they are done right. I can only speak of the Lufthansa lounges which are fantastic. Lots of space, outlets to charge your devices, good food and drinks, beds for resting and, in some cases, showers. Take advantage of it, if you can. Would I go back? For business, I'm going to have to. There are somethings that you can just figure out and get used to by repeat visits and getting familiar with the surroundings and what you need to do and where you need to go. There is no way to prepare for or help getting your bags sooner, unless you go carry-on only. It's a necessary evil. But, I'm happy to say that throughout a 2 week trip through Germany and then flying up to the Czech Republic and then home, my checked luggage always arrived, in-tact and on time. Language: As an American, I've become very aware on how many people around the world, from other countries, know either some to very good English. When you're traveling to a foreign country, do yourself a favor and do a little research online or on Google Translate. Learn how to say basic greetings, such as "good morning", "good evening", "good day", "excuse me" "please" and "thank you", to name a few. I have found that, that little effort goes a long way. It also gives you a little more confidence as well. Remember, a lot of people around the world have either been mandated or chose to learn to speak English. Taking some time to reciprocate is often appreciated and can make your life a bit easier.

Yelp
This airport is a mess haha. It's gigantic, and hectic, and disorganized. I had to take an actual bus from one terminal to another. They have a bunch of shops with german chocolate and souvenirs which is nice. The lounges I visited were not the best food wise. I think they could improve some things but that would be a bunch of restructuring.

Shani H.

Yelp
This airport is clean and security is very organized. There aren't may restaurants (atleast in terminal 2) but there are multiple options for lounges. Departures can be a bit time consuming. You have to go through security, scan your ticket, then take a 15-20minute shuttle to the plane so be sure to leave yourself plenty of time before boarding.

Jolie F.

Yelp
This is one of my least favorite airports in Europe to travel through! If you have to fly through Germany, pick a different airport! Munich airport is a much better airport! The airport traffic is insane: reminds me of LAX. With that said a good number of flights don't have a gate, so they shuttle you to and from airplane. This is a very uncomfortable long experience: they wait till buses are overfilled till they move. Most people will end of standing: a bus ride could be 20 minutes long too. Once you finally get to the airport you could find yourself walking long distance, up and down stairs and through multiple checkpoints. And if you have to go through without an EU passport you are in for some more fun! Lines are long and slow!

Maruko X.

Yelp
The FRA airport is poorly designed, unclear signs and overwhelming routes to shopping facilities on the way from terminal to terminal, and gates to gates. The entire place is old and lack of infrastructure maintenance. Even if you transit in the same terminal, you still have to take shuttle and exit first, and then go through security check and take shuttle back again.

Bill S.

Yelp
Frankfurt Airport is probably the largest airport I've ever experienced. Not speaking the language was a small hindrance, as I booked my hotel at the airport to save on a day of the rental car. Once I dropped off my rental car, I needed directions on where the airport hotel was located. It was a long walk and my suit bag didn't have wheels. It sure was nice to wake up and be at my destination the next day. There are some amazing food vendors once you check into the airport! I had a sunflower pretzel that was krazy good. Enjoy!

Vanessa T.

Yelp
The Frankfurt airport is convenient, location-wise. However, the line for non-EU passport holders was the worst I'd EVER seen. There was literal human feces in the corner of one of the rooms that the ENDLESS line wrapped through. Understaffed, slow, and inefficient.

Cheryl N.

Yelp
I'm here waiting for my connecting flight to Venice. The Lufthansa flight from LAX was delayed 25 min n for sure I'd miss the connecting flight yo Venice, nobody had told me this airport is huge n it takes 1hr25 min to navigate thru immigration n gates. My husband nearly had a heart attack worrying about missing our flight to Venice n might lose my one n only honeymoon suite they had on the hotel overlooking the Rialto bridge. I'm just taking it easy n not worrying about missing anything, things I can't control. One thing I know I usually flash my dumb Barbie smile n get amazing people fling the amazing thing for me. This Frau was the driver of the free shuttle, I got priority seating n told her I need to catch a flight, boy did she fly through the airport honking horn in between, there is no way anybody can walk this many turns n get to the right gate, she was checking this crazy airport had changed gates twice! We would have no way to know about the change of gates. My advice is to book connecting flights fr Munich or here Frankfurt least 2 hrs layaway or you'll miss it , sorry but it's only 3 stars as they should have more officers helping passengers, the one guy we asked was annoyed I even dared asking him.

Gillynn C.

Yelp
I must say this is one of the worst airports ever. They do not cater to handicaps. There security measures and border patrol are so slow to the point of everyone in line was 5 minutes from missing their flight. If our plane wasn't delayed, we would have missed our flights. I would say avoid this airport. Unfortunately I have to be back

Paul W.

Yelp
FRA is a solid airport and they do a great job of efficiently moving about 65 million international passengers per year through this facility, but it was definitely designed to be functional rather than fancy and is much more "utilitarian" looking than airports in some other European cities (Madrid's airport, for instance, is quite beautiful and ornate in comparison). That said, signage is adequate, it's relatively easy to find your way around and there are plenty of shops and eateries to pass the time between flights, though I noted that most all restaurants here have similar offerings - Lots of breads, pretzels and sandwiches. If you do find a creative-looking store or souvenir shop that has something unique that you're interested in, you should consider buying it then, as once you're through immigration checkpoints or have passed into other areas of the airport, you may not see exactly the same things again. While you'll find a few places that offer unique merchandise, most shops in this airport offer similar "tacky touristy knickknack" souvenirs and trinkets. There are several tax and duty-free shops here, a few of them larger with a good selection of items, but still nothing compared to Heathrow, for instance. I bought a few bottles of liquor as gifts, put them in my luggage and transported them home, only to find the same offerings priced cheaper in my local ABC store in the US, so I'm not certain how much one actually saves by not paying "tax and duty". My primary critical comment about this airport is that I found the electronic signage listing gate numbers for departing flights to be a bit lacking. First, it lists the flights in order of their departure time, rather than arrival city as is common in many other parts of the world, but also, many of Lufthansa's flights either weren't shown there, or there were so many departing flights listed that the ones I was looking for didn't appear until just minutes before boarding. In most cases I found the Lufthansa app much more useful and informative than the "departing flights" screens in this airport.

Julia M.

Yelp
Recently flew into Frankfurt from Houston. We had a connecting flight to Italy from here. Decent airport with clean restrooms and easy to navigate. I personally liked the Munich airport better, but this one is not bad.

Cary N.

Yelp
This is a main hub and so a very large airport. Walking from one terminal to another can be a walk. But the airport was very clean and had lots of shops and restaurants/drinking places. I would have loved to sit for a drink but my first flight was delayed and I didn't feel I had enough time to get a drink.

Frank T.

Yelp
Not a bad airport once you get past all the construction insanity. Impossible to get to the hotel by car unless you plan to park, which we did not. Travel between terminals suck. Maybe once they get everything done, it might be better.

Scott J.

Yelp
Customer service sucks! Such a confusing airport. Had to walk a long ways to go through passport control!

Felix G.

Yelp
Such a very easy airport to navigate. Terminals 1&2 have a quick an easy tram to take you back and forth. There are two Hilton hotels in walking distance in case you need to spend the night. And the shopping here is great. Restaurants could be better though. Wish there was a doner kebab place here.

Mel T.

Yelp
Frankfurt Airport is pretty huge. Everything is far apart and it's a pretty long walk from one gate to the next. At gate A, it seems there's really only two sit down restaurants and a bunch of bakeries serving cold sammies and pretzels. There's not a huge variety. There's also only one Priority Pass lounge in Terminal 1, which I've read from reviews that it's not worth going to, so we decided to just skip it and opt for a leisurely lunch at Hausmann's since we had a 3.5 hour layover. While the terminal looks clean, there are mouse traps everywhere, so that was a bit unsettling. Not the best airport but certainly not the worst.

Kim S.

Yelp
I've flown into or out of Frankfurt Airport on both American and United. The American Airlines experience is definitely the preferred one. Their United terminal doesn't have nearly the number of stores, kiosks, or dining options.

Jasmine L.

Yelp
Clean and well-maintained airport although that is very confusing employees. Lots of stores and restaurants to keep busy. However, there are limited charging ports only at leisure zones, not many at actual gates. Enjoyed the foosball tables near gate 42 too!

Kevin G.

Yelp
Airport is highly efficient and signage is excellent. But do not rely on inter terminal airport bus if you are in a hurry. Massive wait for bus at terminal 1 - took more than 45 minutes, including waiting time and some people had to wait even longer as the bus was full

Chris L.

Yelp
I really like the Frankfurt airport. Everything you need and I mean everything. Very clean. Very organized. Excellent signs get you from gate to gate. Security is quick and very well organized. Be prepared to walk as this is a big airport.

Isaac A.

Yelp
So much better to navigate vs when I was here maybe 15 years ago. The airport is large, but it moves efficiently. There are multiple duty free stores and tons of food options.

Andy O.

Yelp
Unstructured airport! The airport is huge and their is no tram or train to take you from one terminal to the next. You have to take bus to go to different terminals which needs ample time. The average time to connect to your transfer flight at least give two or more hours. Once you enter the terminal your dining choices are very limited you have about two small bar & cafe for you meals. The seats at the terminals does not have USB or power to charge your gadgets... so disappointed. Also, the airport starts to show its age. As I took flight from Istanbul, Turkey airport to Frankfurt in comparison the Turkey airport is very modern and well organized.

Teresa M.

Yelp
Came in on Delta from JFK & picked up a car. It was super easy to navigate, and I was out within 30min. I had read reviews about the additional time needed & planned accordingly. I left my hotel 3.5hrs before my flight, to be sure I'd have plenty of time. Boy, did I have plenty of time. My return was also Delta, to DTW. It took 5min to drive from the BW airport hotel, roughly 10min to turn in the car & about 10min to get to security checkpoint 1. Easy process there, they stamp your passport, and you're through part 1. This took -5min. The second checkpoint was equally as fast. Then you lounge about til you're flight is called, about an hour before departure. The lounge area is comfy. There aren't a lot of store/dining options, but there are a few. We didn't go to any of them. This was the final checkpoint & your access point to your actual gate. It moves quickly as this section is called one plane at a time. My opinion is that if you fly Delta to JFK/ATL/DTW, 2hrs is sufficient, at least as currently set up. (Feb 2024)

LaShonda H.

Yelp
Nice airport, clean with tons of shopping options. Traveling from the US be sure to claim your tax break before checking your luggage, you will need the items with you to get the money.

Diana S.

Yelp
This airport is huge. I've been here for layovers to other European cities and it is always so exhausting passing through here. Coming from the US, once you've departed the plane you must go through immigration. Unlike the US where they literally lead you to the immigration counter, you must find this navigating on your own through the airport. There are tons of people to ask so definitely don't hesitate to do that or you will be walking forever. If you need to transfer to a different concourse, beware of the long security lines you must re-enter through. They are long and slow moving so give yourself plenty of time before your scheduled flight. The staff manning these lines are not friendly and will not give you leniency if you are running late for your flight, so definitely check-in earlier than later. The airport itself seems fairly modern. I've only been to Terminal 1, which is the international terminal. There are duty free shops plus high end shopping as well. There are snack kiosks dispersed throughout but not as many sit down restaurants. For Lufthansa connecting flights, you usually need to board a bus (that is waiting at your gate) and they drive you to the plane. Note- you will have to walk down stairs to get to the bus and also walk up stairs to board the plane. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for walking but what's the point of having a gate when you can't even board the aircraft from there. Overall, if this is a layover airport for you I highly recommend at minimum a 2 hour layover. Prepare to walk a ton, including up and down stairs upon arriving and departing your flights. Good luck!

Michael L.

Yelp
This place is horrible. From a customs office that sends you half way across the airport, because the office next to your gate did not want to process its passengers , to airline personnel who couldn't care less about their paying customers. Don't bother paying for an upgrade, the airline will double sell your upgraded seat and not honor their agreement with you. Thanks Lufthansa for a horrible experience. Last minute cancellations and failed customer notification are the new industry standard. The fact that you cancelled the rest of our trip when Frankfurt customs failed to serve their clients and you failed to honor our agreement, even after confirmation of the upgrade speaks to lowered expectations. Gate agents who work for themselves and not the customers seem to be the new standard.

Elijah R.

Yelp
Once you go through terminal 2 security, you lose access to food and lounges, which means you either go through security and sit like a prisoner for two hours before your flight or you go to a lounge and get food first and then leave in a rush to get through security. None of this is clear on the signs, which meant I went through security, realized this, left and got food, only to go through security again.

Mike B.

Yelp
Security was horrible. Line outside the building and they took 24 minutes to finally allow one person to go through. Another line shut down for 20 minutes. Bunch of mid twenty police that had no interest in doing their job. No seating at the gates. Inconsiderate customers using seats as a place to store their bag. Last time I will ever visit this airport. Will discuss the Lufthansa direct flight from Raleigh to Frankfurt at another time. American blows them out of the water. Finally hot as heck in the security line. No mas.

Clay G.

Yelp
I had a short layover in Frankfurt on my way back to the US. Overall, I'd say I was unimpressed by the airport. There was not a lot open in the terminal. It was also not very clean, with garbage scraps all over gates that were not actively boarding. Apparently flights are often delayed here as well, and my flight was no different with a 30 minute delay occurring at the last minute.

Crystal K.

Yelp
I was at terminal 1 and it was small and easy to navigate. I like how there were pods and a free lounge area to sit/ nap and a place to charge my phone. There are some cool restaurants and gift shops The shuttle bus to other terminals was not running so we had to exit. Going through security/ customs was easy and speedy. We have to provide our passport, COVID vaccination card, and reason and length of our stay. I didn't like how all the bathrooms were wet and dirty. Theres no AC in the airport so it was also a bit muggy. There's also an indoor smoking lounge but the smell seeped through. There wasn't enough seats in the lounge area and not all the outlets worked.

M H.

Yelp
The Eatery sucks. Food sucks, service sucks, prices suck. Don't waste your time, even if you're a hotel guest. Worst experience I've had since being in Germany.

Ness S.

Yelp
The Frankfurt airport is one of the larger airports in the world. But it is extremely disorganized and even for passengers in transit (not entering Europe), they have to jump through unnecessary security hoops. Time between gates can take up to 45-50 mins so tight connections are not advisable. Lots of linear space. The design of the airport makes it unnecessarily difficult to navigate. On the positive side, they do have a lot of lounges and security is usually a breeze. Lots of shops, etc.

Alyssa K.

Yelp
This was a decent place for a layover, but kind of old fashioned and dark. Now that I've had the chance to travel around the world, it is amazing to compare and contrast the locations. I think if you're traveling in Europe it's probably easy to navigate but as an international traveler it's rather difficult to follow the rather poor signage to figure out how you're supposed to go next. I ended up having to ask someone, which is fine, but typically not needed in most airports. Anyway, it wasn't too much of a bother or anything, just by other airport standards it's strange that it doesn't add up.

Austin G.

Yelp
German efficiency breaks down at the Frankfurt Airport. Signs are unclear, ques are long and disorganized, and the entire airport is dark. Limit your time here.

Sheryl F.

Yelp
The absolutely most unorganized airport I've ever traveled through - and I've been traveling internationally for 5 decades. I will do everything possible not to ever go through Frankfurt again. The America Airlines 'team' was unfriendly. Getting through 3 security checkpoints to get to the gate - having everyone leave the gate so they could rescan everything because no one was stationed at the gate. Then finding out we are going to get on a bus - to get to our plane and have to go up/down multiple flights of stairs. I'm bewildered.

PJ C.

Yelp
Shockingly bad for a country that has a reputation for organization, efficiency and discipline (well at least when it comes to car manufacturing). Others have said it but I must repeat -it it total chaos getting through immigration. Poor signage, few workers, and small spaces for processing the vast crowds that come through this airpot. To top it off about a half to a third of all flights require you to take a bus out to the jets since there are way too many flights for the size of the terminals. I cannot imagine what this place must be like when there is bad weather! We plan to avoid flying through here at all cost!

Aaron F.

Yelp
I've been in and out of Frankfurt Main quite a few times and for a Hub of its size Frankfurt Main Terminals 1 and 2 are very easy to navigate. Customs is efficient and the process from entry to exit is smooth. The Airport is cleaner then most and there is plenty of good food to eat and shopping to do while waiting.

Ilene S.

Yelp
Large airport Everything moved pretty quickly - checking in and going thru security. Bathrooms were on the clean side.

Alexis B.

Yelp
We had a layover in Frankfurt earlier this summer. Everyone said to me, "Oh, Frankfurt? It's the worst airport for a layover." I didn't believe them, but now I understand! Instead of a few large bathrooms, there are a million tiny bathrooms (two stalls), which made it really awkward for freshening up during a layover (when there's one sink, I was totally in the way when I needed to brush my teeth or wash my face, since I had to share the one sink with the people in the bathroom stalls). There were no restaurants that I could find. There were bakeries and coffeeshops, but no restaurants for sitting down when you have longer layovers. Our flight landed away from the airport and we walked down a ramp, then got on a shuttle bus which took us to the terminal. This isn't great for people that have trouble carrying their carry ons down stairs or who have tight layovers. Overall, it was just a really unfortunate airport for a layover. If I have a choice in the future, I probably would try another airport rather than having a layover in Frankfurt.

Gennady G.

Yelp
This airport could be called "good" 20 years ago. In these days after having seen a lot of airports in the world, I would say it is the most misleading place I have ever seen. Starting with the long walk along the empty corridors upon arrival. What was the functionality of those empty spaces, I can not say. Then a huge line for the security checks were extremely rude and provocative personnel executes their "power" and your desperation to catch a connecting flight. I had a feeling of being a convict transported to a new prison rather than (o, that is impossible for them to comprehend) a client or (God save Germany) a guest (like treated in Hong Kong). If you have ANY chance to avoid this place, do it with no second thought.

Yelp
Had a transfer at the airport, duty free was cool - very good shops. was a lot of walking between both gates, and they change the gate twice at the second time they did not notify me and almost miss my flight because of that (I understood from the staffing airport that happens often)

Yelp
I almost gave this airport a 1 star but upped it to 2 since they did have a cool toy stand that allowed me to buy some stuff for my kids before heading home from a business trip. This airport is huge and chaotic. You can land in terminal A and your connecting flight can be in terminal Z. So I had to run all the way to Z since the connection time was very short. Once I got there, they changed my terminal silently. I only knew because I got a text message. Imagine if I didn't, I wouldn't have known and would've missed my flight. This seems to be common since my coworker warned me about it since he just went on this itinerary two weeks before me.

Yelp
2.5 Highlights all the worst aspects of German culture ("Hey, I was just wondering if we might..." "No.") with poor organization, bad geographic layout, and high prices. Also, queuing is a disorganized mess. It's not a crime against God and man but I absolutely would avoid it if that was an option in planning my trip. Are decent amenities and shopping available? Yes.

Yelp
- Long and "efficient" German lines - Traditional German "hospitality" - True German "customer service" - Great airport for Lufthansa (you're SOL for any other carrier) If you are a non-EU citizen (ex: USA, CHN, JP, etc.), flying any non-German carrier, you're going to be in for a fun time. Departures from Germany will force you to go through 3 different lines at up to several hours each (security check, government passport control, carrier passport control). Transfers will force you to go to 2 different lines (government passport control and carrier passport control). At each line, you'll be "helped" by some "friendly" and "knowledgeable" Frankfurt airport personnel, who will either ignore you, tell you the wrong things, or actually be of assistance. Arguably the least efficient and most frustrating airport I've ever been to.

Yelp
This airport is huge. Is also very confusing due mainly to its size. Thanks forever to go from a Car Rental drop off to the actual terminal. So come here earlier than you would if you were traveling from the USA. The baggage check in line took a long time also. The airport however is very clean and has many different shopping and food options. They even have a full a grocery store.

Yelp
Germanys largest (and fourth largest in Europe) airport would seem to be overwhelming, seeing that it sits on over 200 hectares, however, it didn't feel "too big" or overwhelming at all. There was quite a bit of walking, but with so much to see inside, it doesn't seem like you walk as far as you do. There are a large amount of eateries and shops, something for everyone. I enjoyed seeing the shops that sold goods made in Germany. The airport is really convenient in that there is a train station just outside. It makes it very easy to get to the city center rather quickly. It's 13km away, so not far at all when taking the train. What I really loved about the airport is there were racks of free newspapers and magazines you could take. I really appreciate the sharing/giving of literature. I would love to see this more in other places.

Yelp
Another day at the wonderful Frankfurt Airport! This airport is huge and definitely has everything you need no matter which terminal you are at. Of corse there is parking everywhere if you need to leave your car, and taxis and shuttles going around constantly. There are always information booths all around, so if there is anything needed or questions to be asked a representative is usually available and English is no worry. As always, before you leave Germany you would like to try their local beers and food. There is everything from their beers, to the pretzels and dishes. I am truly a great fan of Germany and I will surly be back to visit again! And the airports are the 1st view of this beautiful country and I love it!

Yelp
Probably my favorite airport for transfers within Germany. And if all options fail, the Sheraton Frankfurt is on property. Quick & easy to navigate, clean and plenty of food options. What more could one want?
