Took my grandaughter there for a day out. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Annie the volunteer was very knowledgeable. The ladies working in the garden helped find the pails with the clues for the puzzle Thankyou for helping create these memories.

A delightful smaller property with wonderful garden with mature oaks and fruiting espaliered trees. Nice tearoom and interesting history of a more middle class property rather than a stately home

franklin house is what middle class living was like back in the day. it was very interesting to compare it to the ‘grandeur’ of clarendon house, and the staff were very informative. come here to immerse yourself in the past, they even have soup for when you’re done having a look around!

Attended a beautiful High Tea, and was seated at a table for 7 with friends, in a beautifully decorated, solitary room, surrounded by old artefacts, framed pictures and antiques. The High Tea was delicious, with ample servings and tea and coffee on offer, with both pots refilled, and hot chocolate available for the children upon request. The service was amazing, and great value at $30.00 per person. You're able to stroll around the gardens and look in the old rooms and stable at your leisure. Stunning setting and magnificent surrounds. Highly recommend this venue all round, will most certainly return. Ample easy parking, and a few toilets available which were fresh and clean. Thank you for a fabulous afternoon High Tea, 10/10 all round!!

Beautiful home! Thankyou to all the volunteers that work hard to keep this old home in tip-top condition. It's definitely worth the $15 entrance fee.

Yelp
This place is a convict-built home and garden from the 19th century, that was to "become one of the Colony's leading private schools". Boasting as the city's only house museum. "In 1960, it became the birthplace of the National Trust in Tasmania". This place is a rich treasure trove of Tasmanian history, with many items from the home owners daily lives on display. You get to walk through the many rooms and read over the plaques teaching about the ins and outs of life in the 1800s. Keep in mind that this place allows to you explore at your own pace with self-guided tours. While we were visiting we did manage to have a chat with one of the staff members while we looked through the kitchen. So don't be shy about asking questions. We spent well over an hour here. Shame it was raining otherwise we'd have spent more time in the garden. A great way to spend an afternoon for any history enthusiast. There is on site parking.
