Nature and Parks in Boston

"This verdant green space in Roxbury is named after Benjamin Franklin, whose trust fund the city had hoped would finance the park; however, the city ended up paying for it. It’s most famous for being home to the Franklin Park Zoo, with hundreds of animals and birds from around the globe, ranging from a citron-crested cockatoo to a white-bearded wildebeest. The park has 65 acres of wilderness with footpaths that wind through clusters of oaks, pines, and hemlocks, and around hills and rocky outcroppings. Art programs are hosted all over the lawn during the summer months and there’s also an 18-hole public golf course — which is great for sledding and cross-country skiing during snowy winter months. The park also has playing fields, a 10,000-seat stadium, a pond with migrating birds, and School Master Hill, where transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson lived for two years in a small cabin before the park was built." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Lovely grassy area to relax on and a playground for the older ones. Magnificent houses 🏡 in this area.

Google
This was one of my places of peace during Covid lockdowns. I love that it's a safe, family-friendly park, with great big trees and a nice, green field in the middle area. I come here to do yoga, walk my dog, and meditate.

Google
Great spot in a beautiful neighborhood. Locals are friendly and there are great spots to bbq while the kids are at the playground. The playsrts are all enclosed so very safe.

Google
Well I'm sure you don't want to hear the details at my own experience some thirty-odd years ago LOL. The park is changed and it is a lot better for the kids to play at I bring my granddaughter there. We ride our bikes there maybe twice a week. Stay for about 2 to 3 hours.

Google
Franklin Park is a good family park there are two play ground ares one for smaller kids the other for bigger kids. There's a small baseball area, tennis courts and a pool that's for members only. There's a good sized grass area with shade trees for picnics on blankets or just hanging out. On most days an ice cream truck will come buy to sell you frozen treats. restroom

Google
Very comfortable park. Always clean and friendly. Not a campground XD

Google
Franklin Park has always been a very nice park. Especially for children. They have a great recreation Hut right there on the premises. They have a swimming pool and as of right now are giving swimming lessons. It's just a really good safe beautiful park. Beautiful neighborhood.

Yelp
This is a nice park in Alameda, but nothing too special about it. Pros: There's a separate area for big kids and little kids. There's also a tennis court and picnic tables under lots of shady trees. Cons: Some parts of it look a bit run down. The office had a boarded up door with graffiti, and the picnic tables were not in the best shape.

Yelp
Franklin Park is a block wide/long park that's packed with something for everyone. technically closed, there are some people enjoying themselves. amenities: tennis court, basketball hoops, greenery, bbq pits, children's playarea. bathrooms. notes: -parking around the area. no parking area.

Yelp
Super calm park for you gets kids with great tennis courts in a residential area of alameda so you are surrounded by glorious Victoriana. Easy parking. Clean venu and fairly ok toilets. Full of absent parents busy on there phone whilst pretending to be in the moment with their kids.

Yelp
I used to live over in this neck of the woods, and Franklin Park is definitely a great addition to the neighborhood. It's in a safe, quiet area, and it's surrounded by some absolutely gorgeous houses.

Yelp
Great park. Been coming here for ten years since we bought our house about six blocks away. Never been so accosted for minding my own business while the lady on the right grabs my arm and tells us to leave the park because her friend is apparently having a melt down day and is yelling at her son who obviously wants to play with her, she tells her son, "if you f--cling touch me with that ball I'm seriously going to pop it" while she is watching a documentary on Theranos. Her son is throwing a ball in a tree where I am sitting and I have to move away and pack because she obviously is engrossed in her phone versus paying attention to her son. And I don't want the ball to hit me in the head. She yells over to me, "what is my kid bothering you", I said yes. I'll give her some notion she was probably yelling at me because her headphones were on and she could not hear me. But I stayed quiet and I moved. She yells at me again, not taking her headset off.. then I let her know, yes I have to move because you're not paying attention to your kid and obviously you're upset. She tells us to leave the park. Her friend shows up and grabs my arm to leave, saying I don't belong here. Then two older white people come over and say I'm causing a scene. So I guess having the one Asian person with her son and friend at Franklin is a no no. Or it could be, as she stated, you don't need to say anything about how I am with my kids and I said I do because you are verbally abusing them. She gets upset and says her husband is traveling. Well, if I clued in to the 40 mins I was there originally, it's probably to afford your trainer, acupuncturist, you're IPhone and your 10 year old daughters trip to Paris for her birthday. Obviously come from wealth and well is the Queen of the Park. We will come back when we can count the ethnic to white ratio as even without being assaulted be the lady in pink and verbally abused Y the other lady.

Yelp
---- clean, discreet, quiet, secure, lots of open space All in all it's a great park. The most cleanest park I've been too, will be coming here often with my infant!

Yelp
Great park for the little ones. I'm so glad that alameda has all these small parks and this one is located close to my apartment. It has 2 play structures, one for big kids and the other for smaller kids. There are swings and a large spinning wheel. Also on this park is a basketball court with no lights, and a tennis court with lights, and a small baseball field. My go to park to let my kids run and play and tire themselves out!

Bonnie W.

Yelp
It's a great park. Playground looks like fun. I joined others for a "picnic" at one of the tables, The whole area was very clean...including the rest rooms!

Yelp
I really love this park. + It's in a pretty, clean, serene setting. There are huge trees and lovely flowers surrounding the park. Traffic seems minimal. + I love that both play structures seem geared towards preschool and elementary age children. I never felt worried with my toddler climbing around. + There's quite a lot to do with swings (both baby and toddler styles), two play structures, a merry-go-round, a few individual merry-go-rounds, and a sandbox. + In addition to the above, there are shovels and pails in the sandbox, chalk, hopscotch, basketball, and picnic benches available for all to use. + Easy parking, right out front. + A child proof gate surrounds most of the park. +++ Clean bathrooms! With SOAP and toilet paper.

Yelp
Franklin Park is one of the reasons why my husband and I bought our house. (We live around the corner.) It's a safe, self-contained world where toddlers can climb, run around and get some fresh air. Older kids can play tennis, basketball, baseball or soccer, and parents often indulge in idle chit chat while chasing/watching/referee-ing their kids. I am also impressed with the park maintenance crew. Every morning when I walk my dogs, I see a lady tending the flowers, raking leaves, and/or edging the lawns. Usually people complain and wonder where our tax dollars go, but Frankln Park is worth every penny.

Yelp
I going to go on the monkey bars. I going work my legs on the benches. Shoot some hoops. I probably get up early now.

Yelp
It's a amazing park but the coronavirus has made it closed so Mabey visit when the coronavirus thing is over but other than than it is a friendly place but there is a small kid side and a bigger kid area ( there is a bathroom :) )

Yelp
A small, but beautiful park surrounded by a lot of beautiful, older homes. A very Leave It To Beaver sort of feel. Lots of huge, mature trees, a baseball field, kids play structure, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a nice co-op swimming pool. A very 1950's feel to the place, and very nicely maintained.

Yelp
This park is clean, tidy, safe and the kids love it. Has restrooms and a working water fountain. The grass is manicured, the flowers are pretty, there is a tennis court, a baseball field, the basketball hoop, and a pool. Of course the playground and the marry go round that the kids ride til they get sick. A relaxing fun park for your little ons(2 legged or 4 legged)

I go here every day! Super safe for kids, great field, BBQ's, tennis, basketball, soccer, etc. Also very clean lots of trees and great play structure for little kids and older kids!

Yelp
I grew up across the street from this park. Its a great park in a great neighborhood. Every time I fell out of a tree and got a concussion medical help soon arrived. I even got a trip to Alameda hospital when I broke my leg playing tackle football. The park has 2 tennis courts, a baseball field, basketball court, fenced in playground, recreation building and picnic area. You need to join an association to use the pool that's next to the Park. The recreation building has various activities that can be found at http://www.ci.alameda.ca.us/arpd/ Bottom line: If i didn't have to commute for an hour I would buy a house in this neighborhood just so my kid could play at Franklin Park. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Franklin+Park+Alameda&sll=37.768426,-122.261353&sspn=0.001570,0.001827&ie=UTF8&filter=0&ll=37.768815,-122.261353&spn=0,359.953566&z=14&iwloc=A&layer=c&cbll=37.768804,-122.261219&panoid=VHoPhBpxJzejem7imdPoHw&cbp=12,219.1751100603932,,0,12.92494783865974

Yelp
I love this park. You can park right next to the playground area. There is a fence with a gate so that no small people escape. The park is probably the cleanest in Alameda.
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of kids. What a great park! Lots of room for all kids and it has some pretty cool slides.

Yelp
Very well kept park, it's inviting to those who don't mind hangin out with their little ones without worrying about cleanleness and safety. It's the same park I grew up at and I'm glad it's still here for my kids to enjoy. A great quiet park to enjoy a picnic on the grass outside of the playground area.

Yelp
We love to take our daughter to this park. It's clean & safe!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of my kids favorite parks in Alameda. I love how the smaller play structure is separate from the older kids structure. My kids love it here, they always leave happy.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Probably the best park in Alameda if you have kids. There is a nice playground area with swings, a sandbox, and different play structures for younger and older kids. I believe there are also basketball, and tennis courts.

Samar P.

Yelp
This is a great park for your toddlers. This is the first park I've seen an actual Merry Go Round at in years. My tots loved playing here!
