Franz Josef Top 10 Holiday Park

Every time we roll into Franz Josef TOP 10 Holiday Park, it’s instant chill mode. There’s just something about this place. The mountains towering around you, the rainforest vibe, that fresh West Coast, air… you feel it the second you drive in. It’s the perfect base for exploring Glacier Country and everything in the surrounds. The amenities are absolutely immaculate. Clean, spacious, you can tell real care goes into keeping this park looking and feeling special. It’s also super easy to navigate, which we love when towing in the Australis Caravan, and there’s a great mix of sites that feel private and peaceful. But honestly? What really makes this place stand out is the team. Friendly, welcoming, genuinely lovely people who make you feel like you’re coming back to somewhere familiar. We sometimes say we’ll try somewhere new next time… and yet here we are again. And that probably says it all. 💚

We booked a powered site for one day/night. Upon arrival the staff mentioned that the sites were not allocated. We were lucky we got there early to secure a spot with a nicer view (all spots had good view). The site had a hardstand. Toilets/showers were clean and dry. Camp kitchen was clean an neat. Laundry was coin operated and didn't close at night. The park had a jumping pillow and a trampoline. We didn't venture into the games room but I think it was a paid games room (correct me if I'm wrong). The only thing I would like added is possibly a baby change table in the family room, to aid with changing the baby after a shower. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Nice location for campervans and tents with great open spaces and views across the land. Probably less so for those in cabins. Ours was rather dull with uncomfortable beds. It is probably a bit of stretch if you have to walk into town but the location of the park is really beautiful.

The staff members I interacted with were friendly and efficient. My room was average. The sink situation was not well thought out. It’s a very small sink and a shelf over it. Every time I washed my face I got water on the floor and it was difficult to spit into the sink when brushing my teeth. My room could have been cleaner. There was hair on the bathroom wall and in the bedsheets. I appreciated having a refrigerator and water heater in the room.

King Ensuite Cabin. Sounds good? Ha! Not a cabin, a room in a group of 6 with a shared kitchen. Paper thin walls, neighbours arguing, smoking, using microwave in kitchen in 30second bursts, pin ping ping! Tiny bathroom with a basin approx 20cm wide with a glass shelf hanging over it. Impossible to brush teeth!

This campsite is in a beautiful location. You can beat the view of Franz Josef Glacier. 😱 We had a late check in and even though the reception was closed, everything was organized and ready for us to find our site. Very clean and well kept lawns. The cement pads is perfect for the dewy nights and mornings. The kitchen is so easy to maneuver around with tons of burners and sinks. They even had utensils and pots to use which is easier then carting from the trailer. TY!! Can get a bit smelly if someone is cooking something you don't like as the entire eating area is in there as well. The bathrooms were nice and warm and the shower spaces were huge with hooks and a chair to lay your stuff. They had a blow dryer and hand dryer. One thing I wasn't a fan of in the women's washroom is that they have a big window which is lovely to see the view of Franz Josef but at night, the light reflects off the window so you can't see outside but people can stare straight in. I find that a bit of uncomfortable and a bit creepy cause you don't know who's watching you. The showered portion is covered and ok. Would def stay here again and thank you for havi g us. Stayed here for one night a few weeks back while visiting Fanz Josef glacier. A large place with many single story units. Unfortunately did not walk around the compound. We had a studio unit which has enough beds for 4. The room is quite basic but the shared kitchen/dining/lounge for this cluster was large and well equipped although we used only the microwave to heat up the take-out food.

I would not rate this as a top 10 holiday park. The setting is absolutely stunning. While the camper van and tent sites seem good, the cabins are old and dated with atrocious beds. Also, in cabin 30, there is a mildew odor. The kitchen facility and seating area is nice But there are no pots and pans or utensils stocked. If you want to use those things, you must purchase them. I’ve been traveling to New Zealand for over 35 years and the cabin Is the worst we have stayed in. Our group has rented two cabins and we will likely not stay the three nights we booked.
