Among the best is Edition Populaire, which stocks limited edition collections of household and drink items, like a gin and tonic set of Gents tonic made with gentian root from the Swiss Appenzell region and gin from the small Black Forest distillery Monkey 47. "Hip Locavore Dining in Zurich West The hippest restaurant in Zurich operates out of (yes, even more) used shipping containers with al fresco seating on the terrace or under a huge circus tent. The locavore spot serves a daily changing menu that uses produce from its 60 raised on-site garden beds."

Frau Gerolds Garten nails the summer-cool, urban-garden meet-up vibe. It’s ideal for drinks, ice cream, casual dinners, or late night fondue—in any season—especially when you want a bit of buzz near the train. Recommend it!

Google
Always a very cozy athmosphere. People are nice and the food is great

Google
What a special cozy place. Absolutely loved the vibe. We got fondue and ate outside with warm blankets on our laps. I would definitely try the restaurant next time. The fondue for two was huge and very expensive. It definitely is only worth it if you have a crowd who can linger over it with drinks.

Google
Everything was good, but nothing particularly great. The only thing maybe could get way better is the atmosphere, maybe it was not great since it was a little bit cold (even for being in mid April) with more people and a warmer weather it could be great!

Google
Really fun and affordable place to hang out. Fun live music, would love more veg food options

Google
Such a vibe even when it rains! A lot of options for drinks, food and desserts. A lot of seating places.

Google
Nice atmosphere and good food. A lot of noise coming from trains.

Google
Some friends and I went here to get a drink on a hot Sunday afternoon. This is a really cool area. You order food and drinks at the bar and can pick up the food at a location to the left of the bar. There are also other food vendors scattered around the complex. I ended up getting some gelato (raspberry and chocolate fudge) after my beer since it was so hot. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
Good prices for Switzerland, great food and atmosphere. Kitchen wasn't open yet but grill was, so I had a sausage with potato salad and a beer. Everything was surprisingly good! Very relaxed atmosphere - You go to counter to order food and than bring it to wherever you can find a spot. Plenty of seating all around. The neighborhood is worth exploring too - lots of neat shops and bars.

Yelp
Good food in an interesting environment. Most of the year, Frau Gerolds in an outdoor beer garden. However, rather than being one big area with lots of picnic tables, there are lots of smaller seating areas with comfortable seats. However, our visit was in February. During this time of the year, there is a large circular building with indoor seating. Great place to eat and socialize over fondue and classic Swiss food. Local beers are available. I had the country bratwurst. The vegetables were very good. We were seated at a communal table. Our server spoke english so ordering was very easy.

Yelp
This was a cool experience. I can't comment on the food much, most of it was closed but the gelato was great and reasonably priced. The beer was also good and fun to sit outside. I would return!

Yelp
Totally different, totally cool - and an oasis of a different world of peace in midst of the city. Outdoors, nested between little but wild garden parcels, simple tables and benches and sitting opportunities are the basis for an escape from a hectic life. But even better is the fact that the food (we took a Gerolds garden bowl and a fitness bowl, followed by amazing and unconventional ice cream) was simply put wonderful. Patrons flock in and the wide area can get quite packed but not stressed!

Yelp
This place is super cute. We happened to end up here on a rainy evening and saw the most amazing rainbows! We hung out and had a beer and it was very enjoyable. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Seems like THE place that locals go. Huge outdoor space with shops, gelato, bars and food. It was very busy on a thursday night. Really surprised there's enough seating, or maybe there isn't, you gotta search, but there's lots of nooks and crannies.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
This place is very fun and welcoming for anyone. We had a very easy time finding what we wanted to eat and drink. Seating can be a bit of a waiting game, but it was worth the wait
google avatar

Tiffany F.

Yelp
This is a really cute outdoor place. The tofu bowl was just okay. I wish they had some signs telling you what to do with your dishes when you finish since there's no table service.
google avatar

Tyra L.

Yelp
This place is so cute!! We walked by on our way into the city center and stopped to check it out. We got raclette to share, and it was so delicious. It was cold out so some hot cheese and potatoes really hit the spot. We intended to stop back again on our way out but we took a detour (aka got lost) and then decided we were too tired for the extra stop.

Eldon M.

Yelp
This is an open seating area with several healthy food options in a casual ambiance. Service is pretty prompt when we went, and there at lots of food and drink options. We just went for beer and a bratwurst, which was excellent. Notably, there is a little gelato place that serves amazing gelato for dessert, which we really liked. The coffee gelato is some of the best I've had. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
I really like the vibe this place gives off. During warmer months, they have outside seating with a fire pit for you to enjoy a cold beverage and relax. Since it was in the 30's and raining, we sat inside. They have these long wooden benches/tables that remind me of medieval times. Our server was awesome and very accommodating. Just a word or warning, if there are 3 people planning on sharing the fondue, just order for 2 since they give you a lot of cheese and unlimited bread. We ended up having to throw away most of the cheese. The fondue that I ordered had a bitterness to it. It probably had to do with the wine or alcohol they put in there. It was a bit off-putting and that's probably why we didn't finish our pot.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Such a fun place to just hangout and chill. Loved the ambiance and decor of the whole place. We tried a vegetarian pasta dish and it was good. Wish the ramen food truck had been open when we went.

Carvy L.

Yelp
It a vibe! Come out here for a cold chill beer and enjoy the scenery! Like a playground for adults.

Yelp
This is a big Bier garten. A big open area with lots of picnic tables surrounded by cargo containers. Food is pretty limited to different types of sausage and salad. But, they have a lot of beer. Most people come here for the beer. My group had different types of sausage and they were all good. Our group was way above the mean of the average age of the clientele but we enjoyed it. Is it great? No. Is it a fun place to kick back and people watch? Yes! Go here because it's just a cool place and enjoy the vibe, not for a gourmet meal.

Yelp
Meats were ok although somewhat overpriced; atmosphere was excellent; ice cream was delicious ; Switzerland army are customers -you have to pay in Swiss Francs for the foosball -no screaming babies here

Russ C.

Yelp
Such an awesome atmosphere! Servers were amazing, recommending (and translating) everything for us and helping us make choices for our kids. Food was delicious! Cool cool place. Would definitely come back anytime I came thru Zürich! Check it out!

Yelp
Probably my first and last time having fondue ever again! This was by far the worst meal I had in all of Switzerland. Our local Swiss friends brought us here, raved about this place and about how hard it is to get a reservation here, and how a meal like this can't get more Swiss. The night we came, truffle fondue was the pre fixe available so we opted for that and the china fondue... neither of which was good. :c . I was so disappointed. I could barely taste the truffle in the cheese. Rather, all I could really taste, was the immense, overpowering taste of alcohol/wine. Our Swiss friends told us that the proper way to eat was to only have bread, plenty of black pepper on your plate ready, and cheese. Use the specific utensil for fondue, fork it into bread, dip into cheese, followed by a dip into black pepper. Normally, I love black pepper, but this just fortified the strong taste of alcohol! I could not fathom eating this. To give this place a second attempt, we also had the china fondue, which we should've known would've been disappointing anyways coming from an ethnic background where this is very normal to have. It was just miscellaneous cuts of meat that you can dip in salted water, followed by a choice of ketchup and various aiolis to dip your meat in. It was so bizarre. Honestly, the best thing I had here and could stomach was the fries. While I'm all for trying local foods and getting the most local experience, this was such a disappointment. Maybe I just don't have the palette to appreciate Swiss fondue, but this is definitely somewhere I would not come again. Once is enough. For those of you visiting, don't get me wrong - the place is still very fun for all your photography needs. The restaurant inside gives a very dine-in-a-Cirque-du-Soleil kinda feel and outside, great to hang out at when it's warmer in the summer time. Food though, hard pass for me.

Yelp
Fantastic lively place in Zurich where all the locals gather! Try it if you come here.

Yelp
Outdoor beer garden = vibes Super fun place to hangout after a long day off doing touristy things or work. The place was packed with fun chill vibes. Feeling food? Go upstairs and order your food and you will be given a buzzer where you pick up your food downstairs. As far as I could tell there was only one 'restaurant' to order food, not multiple vendors. If you're feeling a beer or two order that downstairs. If you have a group of 2-4 I would highly recommend the sharing is caring plate. It includes pulled pork, bbq short ribs, different brats, fried cheese, cole slaw, veggies, and some other meats. It's definitely a great way to try a bunch of things! Everything was delicious! There is a bucket of bread you could grab as you pick up your food as a great filler! Don't forget on your way out to grab some gelato near the entrance. Some of the best gelato in Zurich! Would highly recommend stopping by Frau Gerolds Garten!

Yelp
in the summer its a really nice place to go with friends and family children also can have fun during the day
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for casual day drinks with friends on a nice day! It gets super crowded but you can just stand around. Not alot of good food options so I wouldn't recommend eating here. Definitely a place to visit as a tourist. I really like the containers that are reused as the Freitag store.

William M.

Yelp
Funky place near the tech district. Variety of dining options. Fondue was amazing - could not finish it all. Staff was friendly and accommodating for English speakers.
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Really fun place to stop in the garden in the summer for drinks and snacks. They also have a Christmas garden this year, which friends have said is really nice. Big open area, very cool vibe.

Yelp
Good food, beer, and atmosphere. Order from the counter and pick up your food at the grill. There is a lot of searing options outside and upstairs. We had the salmon burger, sausage and corn from the grill. We enjoyed all of our food choices!
google avatar

Yelp
Oh god yes Fondue, fondue and more fondue. Hot melted cheesey goodness. Now to lie down for a couple of days. And then rinse and repeat...

Yelp
Beer Garden. This place was so fun. Very different from the typical Zurich scene. They have a walk up bar surrounded by a fun patio with a fun atmosphere. Everyone here is jusr kind of hanging our with no sense of time. Know what I mean? Great beer options, the chicken barbecue was amazing. They know what their doing. Great spot if you're in a beer garden mood, bring a large group of you want.

Yelp
First, I'd just like to point out that I probably was not cool enough to be at this restaurant, but I really enjoyed dinner there anywhere. Made of old shipping containers, this complex has boho clothing boutiques, a beer garden, an artisanal gin pop up and a roof top restaurant. We went to dinner with ex pat friends and their young son. I had an aperol spritz and then we had some fire pit pizza for dinner. I think we actually went during the European version of happy hour, since the food menu was limited compared to what was listed on their website, but either way we had a lot of fun basking in the sunset on a rooftop. Definitely a good place for Instagram photos, it was a very fun experience.

Yelp
I fully expected this place to be too cool for school but it has easily become one of my fave places to hang out in Zurich. In summer it is a garden where you can have a couple of beers, have some bbq whilst chilling with friends. In winter it turns into some magical cabin where you can indulge in the ultimate Swiss food: fondue. Both season have their own charm and Frau Gerolds Garten does both very well. It always feels relaxed but hip and pretty at the same time. But most importantly the food is good! I have a soft spot for the less traditional bacon and beer fondue but the other choices are great as well. In addition, for Zurich standards this is reasonably priced for what you get. I would say the only negative is that the place is becoming a victim of it's own success: it is very difficult to find a spot without reservation. I tried booking for a fondue night for two and realized that they were fully booked for the complete month of December (while I tried booking in November). However, I took my chance and walked in and got a spot, yay! Definitely recommended if you want to try Swiss food but prefer a hip relaxed environment over a stiff traditional establishment in the old town.

Yelp
Super fun spot. Great vibes and very lively. Came on a Saturday night and it was busy but we were able to find seats to eat and drink. Had gluhwein, beers, bratwurst and fondue - would recommend all of them!

Yelp
My family and I stumbled into this place for the Iceland France UEFA match (Note to regulars, we were the 4 Yanks rooting for Iceland.). What a cool place! Bartender recommended a great beer, people were absolute-chill cool, and the "stadium seating " were awesome. If you're not a local, you'll think "sketchy area". Relax. It's not. Go in. Have a drink. Chill.
google avatar

Yelp
Going through my zurich pics brought nostalgia for this place. Funny story. A sales associate who was also a local university student recommended this place for happy hour. The restaurant is situated inside a tent and inside are very artsy murals. I checked in at 11:30, but they still served us. Ivan our waiter was super amiable and was able to serve us cured meats and excellent beer. Really chill vibes all around
google avatar

Wayne T.

Yelp
Great service, food and atmosphere. We got very lucky to get a table without a booking. Would recommend getting there right on opening time (6pm) if you want to get a table. The chilli fondue is not too spicy. Worth the visit.

Yelp
Pretty chill spot in a rando spot of Zurich (I think). Although we missed out on what looks like some pretty solid eats, the ability to grab a seat, order up a few drinks and just relax for a bit was pretty welcoming after a long day of walking the city. There is shade if you need it and plenty of seating in an outdoor garden-style atmosphere. We opted to sit in an upper area, which had it's own bar and overlooked the train station and surf academy next door (check this out). After a few Aperol spritz in the shade and a tour of the small shops by the entrance and we were on our way. Nice little stop!

Yelp
Super fun Biergarten in Munich, right next to company that sells shipping containers. So there are containers all about. Large outdoor space with tons of people, and good music. Typical bratwurst, and the like. Good selection of beers.

Yelp
As an American just tromping through Europe, I was not expecting such a hipster vibe in Zurich --- and this spot is holding down the hipster fort and is slinging out good food, beer, and vibes. Stumbled upon this gem after getting off the Hardbruke train stop. It's a large open space that has a wonderful garden, a rooftop deck, and a tented area in case you want to get out of the sun. To order both food and drink go straight to the bar area. The menus are completely in German, however the lovely bartender busted out perfect English and stepped me through the food menu. They were offering four sausages that day as well as potato salad and regular salad. I opted for the veal sausage with potato salad and got a large bottle of beer based on her recommendation (Bugel). All of it cost me 24 Francs, which is quite frankly a steal in these parts. I picked up my food at the grill and also got a free piece of bread (A lovely pile is just sitting out there for you to take). The food was excellent --- the veal was savory and hearty, the potato salad well seasoned with a curry like essence, and the beer divine. I'd recommend coming here with a big group and just chilling out on an afternoon (wasn't too busy when I was there). I have walked by on a few occasions when the spot was jam packed in the evening --- can imagine logistics being a bit tougher then!

Yelp
This is my favorite place in Zurich to hang out. It's in the middle of very cool boutiques, right next to the famous Freitag building, and about a 5 minute walk from the Prime Tower. There are picnic tables everywhere, and about half are under a large, colorful tent. It's not too hard to find seating, but the place is usually very busy after work. I love the feel of it. There are trees all over, nifty and different styled chairs, and benches, and it's just got a really cool, chill vibe. It reminds me a lot of Austin, actually. And the food is also very very good. They usually have two salad options, two pasta options, two meat options, and some sausage options. I've had two salads here and both were very delicious. This is where I discovered that ham and melon compliment each other like pb&j! The ham and melon salad was so fresh, but filling, and the other salad was totally different, with heart of palm, oranges, and dried tomato. Both were very yummy. They also offered a gazpacho which tasted similar to a berry smoothie, but it was also yummy. The next time I came I tried a pasta with bratwurst. It was less unique, but still well flavored and some good comfort food. The Wiedikoner sausage with salad was definitely delicious and probably one of my favorite meals I've had here. If you haven't been here, you definitely have to check it out!
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
If you like street food you will like Frau Gerolds Garten. Located near prime tower, this hipster location offers sausages, salads, and diverses plates. You can seat outside and price are moderate. On hot days you will also have the possibility to enjoy nice ice creams.
google avatar

Sebastien R.

Yelp
I could hang around here all day !! It is by far the coolest place in Zurich. It is an outside bar close to Hardbrucke. It is situated behind the Freitag flagship store. The architecture is based on the Freitag store. It is all pilled up containers. And the bar is also in a container. You can also go up and there you have an industrial view over the tracks. You can eat small things there but it is not a big choice. Nice to have a snack. Staff is funny and friendly. Pay attention at weekend and afterwork it gets really really crowded. There are also a few hipster stores at the garten. Tip: They serve Belgian Beer: "Grimbergen"
google avatar

Natalia M.

Yelp
Came here when I was in Zurich for a business trip because I really wanted to take my cousin (who visited from Poland) to get some amazing Swiss fondue. This place did not disappoint - we came on a Friday night and the place was bustling and busy. The atmosphere, service and most importantly the food was so great. We ordered a bottle of wine, fondue and dessert to split.
google avatar

José A.

Yelp
Had a fondue in winter. The size of the fondue is perfect for two people. Staff super friendly and they took a lot of time for us. Definitely worth another visit.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
While we did not have a reservation, we arrived early so we could grab a table and an early dinner. This is a cool place - at least in the winter - with lighted tree branches placed around the interior and a wood burning fireplace in the center of the large open room. The menu is built around fondue, with several different fondues and a selection of sides for dipping. We thought the fondue was very good, and the wine list is as well. Our service was excellent. We would definitely return next time we are in Zurich.
google avatar

Rei B.

Yelp
A great place to hangout with friends. Have some drinks on a nice day! When it gets super crowded you can just stand around.

Yelp
I always make sure I enjoy cheese fondue once in a while. We had an excellent selection of nice dishes with great service. Thank you very much for the pleasant evening.

Yelp
It is the time of the year again to enjoy cheese fondue. We all had an excellent selection of nice dishes combined with great service. Thank you very much for a great experience here.
google avatar

Yelp
Love those kind of nice places- I love the atmosphere with lights, little stands, local shops and in the middle great fondue place. Place to be !

Yelp
Frau Gerolds Garten is a modern open-air grill and cocktail spot located in the heart of Zürich's hipster district - Züri-West/Hardbrücke. Surrounded by hip boutiques, right next to the famous Freitag building, and about 5 minute walk away from the Prime Tower, the most well-known skyscraper of Zürich. The hipster vibe is very strong here - it's a rather unique experience. You can chill in the gardens or up on the top of the storage containers where you can enjoy a grilled würst (7 CHF), grilled cheese (7 CHF) or potato salad (8 CHF).
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
I want to preface this by saying that I really wanted to like this place. When I first walked in, I was already impressed: the decor is cute, there's a lot of room - and the whole place basically reminds me of what a fairytale would look like if such a thing existed in real life. However, the service is so incredibly slow. I came here with some colleagues for a team lunch, and even though we were pretty much the only people in the place (there may have been one or two other tables that were occupied), the food took forever to arrive. Besides this, their website says that the menu changes daily but this was not the case when we were there. I checked the menu earlier in the week and saw mussels on there twice - that was a little odd, because for such a small lunch menu, you'd think they'd want to maximize their variety of food (and many people are picky about mussels)... but I didn't give it much thought, since we'd only be going later in the week. But when we got there a few days later, the menu was exactly the same. Most of us went for the risotto dish, which was fine (the mushrooms, though, were tender and delicious) - but definitely not worth the hour-long wait we had.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Oh man. Do I hate writing a review of this place? Yes. Do I hate it because it's my favorite, not-so-overrun-still-a-little-indie hang-out spot in the city and I don't want people to know about it? Hell, yes! But here goes: I love Frau Gerold in the summer time when they serve cooling drinks right in the small urban garden and I love what they do with the place once it is winter and the beautiful chapiteau is raised behind the Freitag tower. They serve fondue (both cheese and "chinois") and it is completely transformed from the cool, laid-back summer Frau Gerold into a cozy, cottage-feel gourmet restaurant. And the best thing? Still considering that this is Zurich, you get all that bang for very little buck.
google avatar

Hu K.

Yelp
Very casual outdoor restaurant in the middle of Zurich. Mixture of all different dress-code, suit, jean, shorts or dress.. After work hour, it gets super busy and crowded. Wurst (sausage) (under 10 CHF) or Salad (Around 17 CHF) might be the best thing I would suggest. Pasta was OK but not any special.. Good variety of beer and free get-it-by yourself bread will be plenty for you to enjoy this place without breaking the bank account. Good place for date night, after work drinks or just hang out with friends.
