Freddy's Bar

Was in Brooklyn/NYC on a sort of vacation and didn't want to sit around bored in my hotel room, so I Googled up this place. Small bar, small venue. Very relaxed and comfortable (and it is a bar, so it's loud). Wish the backroom wasn't as roasting as it was, but outside of that, it was just what the doctor ordered.

vibes: immaculate the tater tots were crispy and fresh, but the chicken tenders were... the chicken itself was flavorful and juicy (maybe a little too heavy with the pepper) but the breading was SO weird. It was like smooth and flaky, instead of crispy. at least we knew that they were made in-house because never in my life have i seen chicken tenders like that anywhere else. i would go back and try a different menu item though, just not chicken based.

Fanfrickingtastic. Freddy’s is a nice neighborhood bar. Perfect for an after work beer or a place to meet a friend for a drink. Although I didn’t see the entertainment they also have a back room for shows. The bartenders were chatty but professional and sitting at the bar is the place to be. I think my favorite thing was the history and age of the surroundings.

This is a really fun bar. The decor is unique and cool. They have an aquarium with an albino frog which was unexpected! The drinks are reasonably priced as well as the food. They also may have the best tater tots I’ve ever had. Stag is so friendly and back room that hosts events is nice. Favorite spot in south slope!

lol this place is hilariously bad. Fake emo guys at the bar will serve you “Freddy’s lager” that is actually Budweiser (per the bartenders) then laugh at you if you ask to play anything on the stereo. Will never go back ❤️

Chill vibe, good bar food, nice bartender. Not pretentious at all. Just a fun neighborhood bar with cool shows and a good selection of beer.

Freddy’s bar seems so racist to me and let me explain the other night. I’m at the bar around 5:30 6 o’clock in the morning. black man got a little too wasted, and I guess the bartender asked him to leave and he refused to seven other white man plus the bartender stood up and getting ready to get physical and try to remove him by force illegal for them to do so instead of calling the cops big commotion happen at the bar Another another black man stood up and said that’s not right for you guys to do it’s doesn’t seems right Val a White Russian bartender that wasn’t on shift that day going to tell that black man that he no longer welcome to the bar now that’s what I mean when I said that bar seems racist. That was very racist of her to tell that black man he can’t come back to the bar after man pay for his tab and tip the bartender now that’s wrong

Great bartenders, great food, great shows. If you want a good night out. Freddy's will deliver. A good drink, a good laugh, a sweet song. Around and around the good times roll like a twirling ballerina. If you want a dope hook up for some eats. Look no further than Mo in the back. Mo is a L20 Diviner of Dinner. This man will craft you Freddy's variety of menu items don't hesitate to tell him how you like it. The man is a pleaser, just ask his girlfriend. If you're nice to him, he maybe even make you something special off of the secret menu. Dat Chopped Cheese Burrito. IYKYK.

Freddy's Bar is like Cheers. They have a lot of frequent visitors that call this bar their own. The service is great and friendly. They have good food and a back room that is open for you to bring a large group of friends.

Stumbled in here trying to escape the downpour outside after grabbing a slice at Luigi's down the block. Lucky us, this place is sweet. I love a good dive bar and this place hit all the vibes. Worn out scratched bar, low lights, random decor and cheap beer. Anywhere that serves Miller High Life is going to be a good spot. Ultimately, a great spot to escape the rain for an hour. Would definitely return if in town.

Went with friends to celebrate one of their birthdays had a very nice time in this local bar in our community. We saw a comedy show, which was cool a little Campy. Then we went to have a few appetizers which everyone said were tasty. I myself had a house salad with a basic vinaigrette dressing, which was fine and hit the spot. My friends had hummus, friend shrimps, fries etc everyone said the food was tasty. Of course everyone had their desire alcohol Not photos sorry guys

Ok, so I've always liked Freddy''s. Not a super regular but it's a cool enough dive that puts me back at least in the look of it to the dives I used to frequent back on the LES, when I lived there in the eighties--and that's a HUGE compliment, maybe a bit too much of one but whatever. Given where it is, I really appreciate it. I was there the other night? Imma sound so terrible, but--everyone I met was a Republican. That was not a few people. I'm all for diversity of POV. I am. But is this a republican bar now? I'll go back, but i was ...not feelin it.

This spot manages to excel in ways that matter most. Every service interaction was handled well. Servers treat you with familiar kindness here. The entire experience here impresses. I suggest sampling all their creations.

Fabulous experience. We stayed in the hotel pre cruise and I saw this online. I booked it for the earlier time on a Friday. I was not expecting much but for a few drinks . Was I surprised. I am older ( presumably not their target market) and was with adult daughter. We both loved this experience. The hostess Maria was super friendly and the bartender Carlos exceptional. He could work in any 5 star establishment. The initial drink, Aviation, which I normally do not like, was fabulous. Carlos then tailored the other drinks to our tastes. This was well worth the money. We loved this.

I came here because I saw all the good reviews but oh boy did I make a mistake coming here. The bartender was so rude when we asked for drinks and when I went to order food the guy started arguing with me because I said I wanted my fries with honey mustard and not ketchup... I've never been treated this poorly at an establishment and for no apparent reason. The music was cool but the vibes were off. Spend your money elsewhere... somewhere they'll actually want you to. Don't recommend at all. I'm pretty bummed about my bad experience here. I will say the burger was delicious.

I came here with a group of friends on a Saturday night for dinner. I had the chicken tenders which fries. The food was really good! Portions were generous and prices were reasonable. I would definitely come back here for drinks or dinner; it's a super cozy, classic pub.

Ooh la la did j get transported to moulin rouge? I found out what they do in the Backroom! Thursdays apparently they have shows. It was burlesque! Wow it's free to check it out. Bring your singles to tip! Beer is cheap, wine is crisp, fries are yummy.shows are entertaining. Back story is great. Zane the bartender is friendly n courteous. You can feel the history in this place. Very interesting place. I hope the burlesque women have day jobs bc there were in 4 people in the audience...that's not much tip...

Freddy's is everything a bar should be. Lights are dim, music/comedy/performances in the back room (soundproofed if you dont want to hear any of it at the bar) and a casual food window between the two. I think I already posted a review but the best night at Freddy's was when James Brown's bassist brought his stellar band of folks, including a tiny lady with a big sax and they burned the house down. (They were on Letterman soon thereafter - so, yeah, I guess it was 10-ish yrs ago when they performed here.)

Freddy's remains one of the best goddamned bars in the five boroughs, in large part because they seem to have considered everything. - A room for live bands on Fridays and Saturdays thar is carefully insulated from the rest of the bar (in other words, you would never know there was a live band playing unless you were just outside the door( - Remarkably efficient take no shit bartenders who never feel any need to ingratiate you - A hilarious kitchen that seems to exist as its own kingdom with its own set of rules (complete with those Southern California flashing light indicators when your food is ready), with a surprising variety of food at weirdass hours - One of the most impressive rosters of regulars and weirdos on ANY given time you enter (seriously) - A Floorplan with commodious rooms that seems prepared for any cultural or sociological developments in the next ten years Seriously, if you have a problem with this place, you simply don't possess a soul or you truly don't comprehend what NYC is all about. Five stars. Particularly since yours truly once came in and was invited to go into one of the adjacent rooms for a hand job with the woman in question pledging to recite all of Ezra Pound's poems while, uh, "pounding" me -- a proposition that your pal Johnny politely declined.

The bartender is super friendly and this place definitely has a "Cheers" bar feeling with its regular and a few misfits! I really like a bar and was able to do a bit of work while eating fries. You order in the back and there is a man that cooks your food. It isn't a trendy spot but it is a neighborhood joint

They have happy hour and a good selection of beers on tap with some small batch locals too always rotating. They play solid music, funky lowbrow interior, good food selection, outdoor seats in front and back "garden", and a Charles Bukowski shrine (that's where I always sit!). Pretty local crowd where you'll find no hassle or problems. Live music and comedy on certain nights. You should sign the guestbook when you come in, or at least look through it.

We love this bar. Every time we're in town, we spend nights here just hanging out. All of the patrons and bar tenders are great. Friendly and fun. The atmosphere is kitschy and random, but gives a great mood. Food is typical bar food. The fries are amazing. Drinks are strong and cheap! Perfect All these people giving 1 or 2 stars are probably just snobs. Reading their reviews makes me laugh! Imagine being upset at the doors on an establishment? Hahaa or upset that a bar has people in it hahaha Wild! Freddy's is great. Can't wait to go back!

The middleaged lady bartender was totally rude and kept saying hello?? to me when I was waiting for HER to process my check. She did this several times as if to test me, but she was the one I'm waiting on and it's not like I was spacing out. Extremely rude bitatch.

The frogs are dead!!!!!! This type of frog allegedly can live in captivity for like 20 years, so I have to assume the conditions of a dark loud bar are not ideal for them. Apparently one died and the other died soon after, of grief I assume. They may get replaced. But we must acknowledge their passing.

I don't know all the back story behind this place but when you sit in here you can definitely tell that there is one. Drinks are good and reasonably priced (ish. for the area), and the food is both unreasonably priced and unremarkable though competently made AND the ordering system is convoluted AND apparently has changed a bunch of times AND the person who takes orders/makes the food is impatient and grumpy to the point of being charming, but hey you can get a big basket of tater tots which are all uniformly crunchy and also hot enough to burn your mouth so that's really all you need. Neither too loud nor too quite, not too dark or too bright, not too cluttered or too sterile; the ambient crowd is interesting but not to the point of being distracting; and it's all around a good spot to sit and chat with your friends for a while. Just right

A mean bartender lady? It's ok, a hard job, I'm not expecting anything. I just want to eat something and have few drinks in peace then leave. But nah. It's not happening. Extremely dirty place. Wherever i touched was sticky. I even switched from the bar desk to a table but same! (6 pm on Saturday, barely a few people at the bar) I ordered a beer and asked for the food menu. On the menu it says that i need to go to kitchen counter to make an order. OK. I went there, person who is also preparing the food took my order and said i need to go back pay and come when device beeps. OK. Went back paid After device start vibrating, i went to pick up my food. When i came back my beer that i ordered 5 min ago was gone. Like i was literally gone for 3 minutes and the bottle wasn't even half way come on. Anyways it happens no big deal. I had wait for lady to come so i can explain and get a new beer while my food is sitting there and getting cold. Lady comes, i explain, she brings a new beer. I finally sit and start eating my tacos but nah we're not done yet. As soon as i started eating the tacos i was ready to give a 1 star and leave. Absolutely the WORST taco I've ever had. I'm not a picky person with food or service but this was even too much for me.. My first and last time at this bar.

This was my first time ever in Freddy's Bar and I had come out to see my friends in the band Command Z perform a set. It was late so my need for eats was already satisfied, even though the place seemed to be serving up just about everything I enjoy consuming. The bar is broken into two sides with a live music performance side and the bar side which is sizable, has plenty of room to sit and also some booths. As I mostly only drink beer, I found their selection rather nice and very reasonable. The bartenders were friendly and occasionally engaged the customers when additional chat time was available. There was an open WiFi signal which is always a bonus for me since I cannot get off of my website socials of late. Now for the band room. Another sizable space and lined with benches and a few small tables. My friends have a Heavy Rock band so maybe not the best suited thing for the tight confines but they toned it down a little bit and didn't blow everyone out of the doors. Overall I found the sound to be good and the backline reliable. Command Z is a four piece but I think if a band had more players than this it would be a tight squeeze up there. Overall the experience was a pleasant one and I hope to get back there sometime soon to see more music and enjoy some of the eats next time.

One minute you're listening to what sounds like Alice In Chains. The next, Roy Ayers is blaring beautifully from a great sound system. As I sip the best mixed Jack and (Diet) Coke I've had in a while, I wonder: "Is it the drink or did they know I was coming?" Either or neither, I feel free and cheerful. Just another BK spot to call "home."

Freddy's is probably the best bar in the Slope (unless you want bad free pizza with each drink, in which case the Cheeze wins). We first came here years ago for a dog costume contest and were sucked in by the swing band. Came back a few times for drinks in the super funky bar area, where the bartenders are friendly, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the clientele is an interesting mix of folks. We always intended to come back for the free live music in the back room but somehow never managed to do so until recently, when a friend of a friend was playing. The sound is fantastic and the lineup is eclectic, but wear short sleeves- it's a bit warm back there!

The lady working behind the bar there was very rude & nasty. They had 1 person taking orders and he was cooking the food too. They really need someone to help him. He tried his best but it took 2 hours to get me food. Also, they need more lighting in there. It's just too dark that you cant even read the menu. I had an hour for lunch & I was late due to waiting for my food. I will not be going back.

This is my favorite bar in Brooklyn. The pub food here is delicious! Owners are great. I DJed here many years ago, and I like how the owners want Freddy's to feel communal. Freddy's is a gem.

6 for $20 bucket hits. The music is a hit or miss. Nice main bar with an intimate back area where the music is playing. It's not fits about 30-40 people comfortably. But when the band is slapping it's awesome. When they're not you definitely know it

Great Bar We stumbled across Freddy's one afternoon while strolling around Park Slope. Thought we would pop in for a happy hour drink ($3 pints) and ended up staying for a few. During our 4 nights in Brooklyn we ended up going to Freddy's 3 times, eating there once. The bar is friendly, cheap with a decent mix of music playing. The food,while not exceptional, is very tasty and reasonably priced. We had the Guac and chips, BBQ Chicken Wings and a chicken sandwich, all of which was lovely. We would recommend Freddy's completely, well worth checking out for either a drink or cheap eats. Thanks

Favorite bar in Brooklyn. Come here nearly every day during my stay for the last few years now. Perfect atmosphere, cool people, & great drinks and food.

We got there for the annual dog fashion show. Sadly was raining by the show time, so we hang out and played with the dogs for a while in the bar. Really interested in their decor, staff are friendly and give you warm feeling. There's a descent size, cozy outdoor patio, we would sitting there if it wasn't raining. The show was hold outside on the street in front of the bar, with cute stage, some chairs were prepared. At first was fun but became a mess coz they didnt organize it well, all kids crowed around the stage, touch the dogs without permission, people standing there could see nothing. I got annoyed since i couldn't see anything. It should be a great event if they organize it better. We got back to the bar and ordered food.I had hamburger which was ok. I really enjoyed the fries, so crispy and good amount of salt n pepper. The burger was ok but no flavor, i had to put a lot ketchup in my burger which i normally dont do that. We really loved the dog fashion show, would love to join it next year if they held it organized.

Freddy's bar is quite possibly my favorite bar in NYC.....who am I kidding, it totally is! Cheap drinks and endless live FREE music where one hour you hear an amazing female punk band and an hour later you got the sweetest of classic jazz bands. I've never had a bad time, bartenders super nice, the food is damn solid, and the bodega across the street makes the best drunk man sandwiches for AFTER you have drank more than you should have. If you need more reason, I really don't mind you not going. More room for me and my friends to hang and dance.

I was a Freddy's Bar virgin, but good thing I didn't come out bleeding lmao. This place was excellent. It's dark and divey. There was a live band and I swear I thought it was the radio! Yes, that damn good. I went there on a Wednesday night and it was pretty busy. Matt, the bartender/co-owner was awesome and bursting with personality. The food tho?! Okay, for a dive bar I was taken aback. The food is delicious! I like the set-up too: order with the chef, get ticket, take ticket to bar, get ticket stamped, and wait for order number to pop-up on a live screen. It's pretty cool. $20 minimum for credit/debit cards. Weird, but entertaining video screen that would creepily sync with the live band every once in a while. I'll be going back!

Holy crap. What did I walk into? That's kind of your first impression of Freddy's. It's a true dive. But so intriguing and alluring. Also, if you check in on 4square you can get a $1 off everything the entire night. But wow. Our description of this is: gothic hipster meets Addams family meets hillbilly meets rocker meets punk meets haunted house meets twilight zone. Take that in for a moment. You have to see it. The vibe and the decor and the crowd it draws is out of this world and undefinable. They have a pretty good selection of beers. Cheap deals. Miller high life ftw! Their food menu actually sounds tasty and unique. Crab rangoon in a bar? And pigs in a blanket? Did you find out all of my favorite foods through esp? Yes, yes I believe you did. There's a weird little board that takes a live video of the orders coming up as well on a chalk board. It's CREEPY AS HELL. And the video screen of the Cat drinking milk. And the montage videos of shit blowing up and other odd creations and observations that will make you squirm uncomfortably. I kind of love it though. In that sick I'm so bizarrely intrigued by this all kind of way. They do live shows here in the back room. The bathrooms are kind of disgusting. Don't sit on the seat. Write in the guest book. I sure did. I've only been here twice. Once on halloween night. So my vision of the bar was skewed for sure. And once last night after dinner. In which case I got the bigger picture. But I'm not finished here yet. I feel like this bar is so damn weird and quirky that I need to come back and soon. Apparently Esquire also thinks its fantastic. Or at least they did awhile ago. This bar used to be in Prospect Heights and recently a year or so ago relocated to the South Slope.

C'mon. Freddy's basically has it all! Divey vibes, delicious food, good drinks, a garden, live music, and a karaoke setup. What more could I ask for in life?! Co-workers and I were recently doing it up all extra here after work, so perhaps our wild(ish) night here is not a fair review. But ages ago, I'd been here during the day, throughly soaking the South Slope summer vibes when my choir set up shop to chill and harmonize in the backyard. My one qualm is that the main bar area doesn't have great seating for large groups because of the rigid shape of the booths. But otherwise, as long as you keep bringing out the fish and chips, and special events like karaoke night, I'm sold! I'll happily talk up Freddy's and promote it to number one suggestion when I'm in this hood!

Freddy's Bar is South Slope dive bar known for its live music and over-the-top decor. I came a few months ago for a friend's performance and had a good time. Pretty good beer assortment; the rest of the selection and prices are standard. Service at the bar is fine. The atmosphere and lighting is nice, and I could imagine chilling in the main room if I lived around here. The back room can get a bit cramped if a lot of people show up, but there was also no cover. Seating is a bit sparse so you'll likely end up on the floor. My friend's band had some issues with the sound system and they also cut them off early, so that was a damper. Bonus points for the kitchen set up in the back with a convenient assortment of fried food and sandwiches. It's not the best, but it's reasonably priced and comes out fairly quick.

Great place with interesting vibe and cool employees. Stopped by on a quiet Sunday afternoon to meet a buddy for a beer. Not too crowded. $3 beers on draft...and good stuff too. I had a Lagunitas and my friend was drinking Sixpoint. I was hungry so I ordered the special tater tots with cheese, bacon and scallions....that hit the spot. Bartender was cool and funny. Music was from the 20's or something but totally fit the scene. The decor of this place and the videos they show on the screens are interesting. Definitely recommend this place.

Classic dive bar with weird but interesting stuff happening. There's a TV near the bar that plays films made by the owner. Very eccentric and artistic. Pours are generous and it's a very no frills chill spot. They have shows/bands/music/burlesque in the back room and it's very low key. All are always welcome at Freddy's!

A real fun dive. Spacious, dark, whiskey shots, drafts, the works. Plus my namesake. Always been a good time.

Came here last night at a part of a Brooklyn Beer crawl that Ingrid S. and I decided to embark on to celebrate President's Day. I'm pretty sure that this is how George Washington would have wanted us to celebrate the legacy of our founding fathers...or something. We met up here for dinner with Anna F. as we rounded up our day of yummy craft brew antics. I ended up going with a Guinness because the draft beer selection here really isn't very impressive. Things that I did like a lot about this bar is the overall decor - lot's of strange, funky things all over the walls, ceiling and they have an aquarium! I love all things nautical, sea related and fishieeeeees. Things that aren't very great and resulted in my knocking off a Yelp star include: Cash Only. It's 2015, I still don't understand why so many places refuse to realize this. I'd even be happy paying with Venmo...or maybe one say Apple Pay with actually catch on with small businesses, lol. Beer selection...yeah, yeah, yeah - I won't harp on it, but after going to so many places yesterday I was a little disappointed. I love Guinness but I get really excited about trying new beers and there was no newness here. Guess that's not entirely their fault but there could be more creativity behind the curating of their beer list... Food-wise Anna F. got a cheese burger with a side of house fries and Ingrid S. and I went with their Philly Cheese Steaks. I ordered it with only meat and cheese and Ingy went for the whole shebang which included grilled onions and red peppers. Anna's cheese burger was pretty huge and looked really juicy. My Philly Cheesesteak was pretty delicious and served on a nice fluffy hero. My house fries were crunchy and surprisingly delicuous - not because I wasn't expecting them to be good, but because they came dusted with herbs and parmesan cheese. That was unexpected and I was overjoyed because who doesn't like french fries dusted with cheese?! Lol. I also feel like I should point out that Freddy's is rated 4.5 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor and also ranked 258 out of 4,343 Restauants in Brooklyn. They make this clear both on their website and in their back-kitchen/food ordering area. Overall I enjoyed hanging out at this bar and would totally visit again!

Very nice old- fashion dive in bar , I loved the atmosphere, everybody is very relax , nobody is in a hurry. They have happy hour till 7 : draft beer + hotdog for 6$. Otherwise the food is very mediocre. We came here for opera on tap , which was extremely interesting event , enjoyed everything

Ok, let's be real here: it's a funky dive bar with some live music, a kitchen, bartenders who can drink you under the table, and sometimes a big sad man stumbling out the door. The food isn't for the NYT crowd, it's for the "I'm two drop and plan on going ten", but still damn good despite that; actually, I'm still trying to find something on the menu that might just be mediocre.

Whoohoo #200 review for this place. Feel honored. After a hours of checking out the Green Wood Cemetery, this was the best final resting stop of the day. Quirky and unique, a dive in the best sense of the word. Good list of beers and cider, great food, and an interesting service style. All good. Wish we could transplant into Philly.

Freddy's Bar is One of the best places to go to in Brooklyn or in the Five boroughs.....

I was here with friends recently for "Cringe Night," which was a lot of fun. (A few people reading from their journals...some of them were hilarious) The back room is small so we arrived a little early to get seating. One of my friends went to order tater tots, saying she had had them here before and "Freddy's makes great tater tots." I've never been a huge fan of tater tots but wow, these WERE really good. Definitely better than what you'd get at breakfast in a diner. We also had some nachos with guacamole, and that was delicious as well. All in all, I had a very fun time on my first visit to Freddy's, and I look forward to going back.

Freddy's is always great. They have a decent beer selection that stays consistent (I'm a beer snob so it's probably better than average for most people). The bartenders are friendly, the food is great bar food (don't expect anything frivolous and you'll be more than happy), and they have great music and events. It's my favorite neighborhood bar by far. It's super eclectic and I love it for that. Mike the bartender and Bob in the back are great staples of Freddy's. The people that go here make it an interesting eclectic group. From 20 somethings to people that have lived nearby for 20+ years, or makes it a good time.
