Free People

I am writing my review based on my experience today and only today's encounter. I went to FP to return some items that I bought earlier in the year, but lost weight and wasn't able to ever wear them. I have gone to the one in Bethesda, which closed and I usually go to the one in Tyson's because it's the second closest. I've had normal nothing out of the ordinary experiences, If anything, annoying experiences just because they seemed annoyed with me. Fast forward, walking in, I was greeted right away with a smile and went right to the front to explained my dilemma. There were two team members who worked there, Anna and Meredith, who assured me that it was totally fine and that they would help me without rushing. They worked in tandem to keep the check out line short and when something took too long on my end, they KINDLY asked me if I minded if they could help someone else really quickly before continuing with my longer return. Not ONCE did thy seem annoyed, They smiled through the entire transaction, and also congratulated me on my hard work on losing weight which made me feel amazing :) It got me so pumped to continue to shop for an entire new wardrobe at FP. By the time I was done, I felt confident that everything was done correctly since thy were very meticulously during the returns. I didn't bat an eye when they handed me any of the store credit. Anna and Meredith definitely made this visit great. I didn't feel bad leaving the store but excited to come back. I think I might pamper myself and just make a whole day of it :)

I went in to return one item, and the cashier acted like it was the biggest inconvenience. She sighed, mumbled under her breath, and seemed completely annoyed that she had to do her job. She proceeded to give me a hard time about my order receipt and why I wanted to return it. I get that they have to do their due diligence with returns but her attitude about it left me feeling like I had done something wrong for returning it and that it was some big hassle for her. I’ve always had great experiences at Free People, but the customer service at this Georgetown location was terrible. I was polite the entire time and just wanted to make a simple return, but she made it such an unpleasant experience when it really didn’t have to be. Right after, I went to Anthropologie down the street to return something else, and the experience was the complete opposite. Quick, easy, and pleasant. No attitude, no interrogation, just good customer service. Free People really needs to work on hiring friendlier staff at this location because this was unacceptable.

I just had the most unsettling experience in you guys store. i sat in line and watched the lady at the cash register (blonde hair chest length, brown eyes) greet everyone as approached her. when i got to the cash register she said absolutely nothing. she didn’t even look at me lol it pained her to utter a word to me so she spoke to me under her breathe i should have just walked out but I didn’t because i loved my pieces and free people in general. as a long standing customer never have i ever been treated that way.. ever. good thing i don’t have low self esteem but horrible horrible customer service.

The lady working at the store, standing at the cashier in the afternoon, is mean and impudent. I had just arrived to DC from abroad and went into the shop and was paying at the cashier, when I realized I had my envelope with cash in my bag but not my wallet with my cards nor my passport. I wasn't sure if I'd left them in the hotel room or in my bag in the fitting room while I was trying out the clothes and someone took them. My friend asked the lady if thefts happen in fitting rooms while people are trying on items and stepping outside the fitting rooms to look into the mirrors. The lady said it can happen. Then as my friend was reassuring me that hopefully I'll find my items, since I was getting stressed, the lady started giggling at us sarcastically. We both got really taken aback and told her off for mocking a stressful situation. She acted like she didn't care and said "well if you still wanna buy the item it's XX dollars." Though my intention was to buy it, she upset us so much that we walked away without doing so and I told her I would write a Google review about the bad experience. Definitely not going into this branch again!

free people is one of my favorite stores and i got there at around 5:20 and the doors were locked and the employees were motioning for us to leave. nowhere did it say it was closing earlier than the regular close time at 6pm. both online and the sign outside the store said closing at 6pm. there was no explanation for this. i visited on 12/29.

one of the cashiers had the craziest attitude from the moment i walked in, i have never experienced such rude customer service at a free people before. girl find another store to work at

Courtney, the manger of this store, is absolutely amazing. I accidentally broke my shoe at my anniversary dinner today and she personally delivered my them down to the restaurant! She is the absolute best manager a store could ask for! FREE People give her a raise ASAP! Courtney thank you so much!

I wouldn't waste my time, customer service is awful while shopping then to make matters worse I went to wrap a gift I bought and they left the security tag on. I called the store and corporate and it apparently is my problem to solve. Won't be shopping here again unless they come up with a better solution.

Customer Service in Georgetown store was atrocious. Two sales clerks behind the counter speaking ill of folks from New Jersey. No customer service! Store was packed yet another clerk joined in. I Asked if something ran true to size and they just stared at me. Won't return to any Free People again!!

Customer service horrible. 2 customers me included. Not acknowledged - one staff member behind counter walked right by me, never greeted me and went to help the other person that was already being assisted by the other staff. Looove Free People and adore this location, the selection, display, vibe and the team is very helpful and stylish. My friends, mom and I are obsessed with this location. They are helpful in the front if you have questions and handle any exchanges, returns and checkout fast and efficiently while letting you take your time browsing. If you love the comfortable, sexy, coziness of Free People you will love this store!

I live in Foggy Bottom and often frequent this FP location. Every time I visit the store, I receive the same type of vibe. I'm a woman of color and the blonde young woman at the cash register always looks at me, as if I don't belong in Georgetown. While I like their clothes and often shop their online inventory, the customer service at this location is horrible. In reading the reviews, this isn't a new complaint. I'm not asking for special attention, but respect and courtesy is paramount to running a successful business. The Free People store in Tysons, is great!

Hours on the sign says they close at 6pm. Their recorded message says the Free People website has their updated Covid hours. Well it's 3:30pm on a Wednesday and the store is closed with a locked door and lights off. Drove out of my way for nothing apparently.

Free People is a wholesale company that originates from West Philly, all started by Dick Hayne. Names, such as Bulldog, Ecote, Cooperative, Anthropologie, and Urban Outfitters were used, but then reverted right back to the name they started off with - 'Free People.' Dresses, tops, tees, sweaters, jackets, jeans, jumpsuits/rompers, pants, skirts, shoes, accessories, and intimates are offered, all with a whimsical, free-bird like flair to them. One thing that I love is that the fixtures found in Free People stores are all handmade (for example, the crocheted hangers)! I'm a fan of their sweaters and their army jackets, and the sales staff are very helpful and sweet when you walk in. Don't forget to check out their sales rack, as you can score some great deals. This is a pleasant addition to the M Street boutiques in Georgetown! +whimsical clothing/accessories +sales rack

This location the employees have the right amount of customer service! Someone is there to ask if you need help but also let you shop at your own pace. The sale room is usually pretty organized and they have plenty of dressing rooms-- I've never experienced a wait! This particular free people also has a great shoe selection. Love free people!!

Customer service is subpar vs any other store I've visited in the area. Unreasonably difficult to exchange or return items. Think twice before buying an item if you'll maybe want to exchange it!!

I love the clothing; I do not love being followed around in a store like a potential thief. This is annoying and completely obvious. Every floor I move on to some employee is following me and asking me if I need something. I told them already I did not need their help and that I was just browsing. What an annoyance and borderline harassment.

Love free people. Don't love being followed around? Don't you guys have cameras. Every other store in Georgetown has a security guard, get one? It's ridiculously annoying when an employee is following me everywhere I go. I ever heard on her say "she's going downstairs" to the other worker through their walkie and she said "I know I'm already here" alright guys I get it: your store is kind of expensive. But please let me shop. Every other free people I go to is fine. Kind of ironic I get followed at Free People but right across the straight at CUSP I never get followed and they have twice the amount of the prices you all have. Interesting.

So this was my first time visiting this location in Georgetown as I typically just order online. Upon entering the store ( Monday) m, the sales girl looked up from the register and said nothing. I walked around for a few minutes before saying to her " Hello". She then responded hello. I continued to shop as I had a few returns to make and actually found a few new items I wanted to purchase. A few minutes later, 2 women walked in and the sales clerk, enthusiastically greeted them upon entry. As a black customer in a store, that isn't typically geared towards black women, this rubbed me the wrong way. She clearly is selective on who she greets as they enter the store. I decided to make my returns and not purchase the other items ( 2 dresses and a pair of pants) as I was not helping her sales for the day. Nice store, great quality clothing, but poor customer service. Probably won't return to this location again.

Have had a gift card since Christmas and finally stopped in last night. I hadn't ever been to the Georgetown location, but the three floor setup is pretty cool. I always love Free People clothing (aside from the price, and occasionally the sizing). As soon as I got in a girl named Grace started a dressing room for me. I'd been looking for an outfit for a wedding weekend in England next month with no success, so really had my fingers crossed that I could find something on the nicer + edgier side. I found a gorgeous flowing green/black/blue halter-top romper only the back of it was totally falling off me. Grace helped me find a new size immediately and talked about options for getting it re-fitted/hemmed/returned. I never felt like she was BSing me into buying it. I did end up getting it though :) I've been to the Montgomery Mall location multiple times and this was the best experience that I've had at a Free People store.

I stopped at Free People in Georgetown on 6/1/18 while on a trip from NC with a friend from college and was thrilled with such a lovely store. We had walked there from our nearby hotel. I bought some wooden earrings and the salesperson was so accommodating, going to the storeroom and bringing out a number of pairs so that I could select exactly the shade I needed. I spotted an "I must have it" tote bag while there and returned a couple of hours later and bought it. When I walked back into the store, two salespersons I had met on my first visit welcomed me warmly and were glad to see me again. An outstanding feature of the store is using beautiful cloth bags for items rather than paper or plastic. So...I have a lovely little bag for my earrings and a large bag for my tote. The large bag will be used again on many future shopping adventures. I cannot praise Free People more highly, especially for its friendly, fun staff and superb customer service!

I love Free People have always been a fan and shop mainly in Nordstrom for it. I work in Georgetown so I thought I would pop in to check them out. Well, first I walk in , there are 3 associates on the floor not ONE of them greeted me or asked if I needed help. In walks 2 other customers whom were immediately greeted. One of the associates even spoke around me to see if she needed help. I thought hmmmmmm interesting, I watched several other people greeted, still no communication with me. I left the store disgusted and called the next day to speak with the Manager. I was connected to her , she was very bubbly and friendly, Amy is her name, I explained what happened and she apologized and emphatically insisted that they treat all customers equally, (because I am a brown girl and the others in the store were not) , if you get my drift! She then said to come back in and let her know when I was there. Well I went back a couple days later and the same thing happened, at that point I left because there were 5 people on the floor at this time and not one acknowledged me. I proceeded to order my product online and filed a complaint, to which I was given the District Managers name. She called me several days later, I missed the call and she left a message saying something to the effect that she would talk to the store and I could call her back but she was only going to be in that particular location for an hour. There was no contact number left for her personally, just the store. All of this to say...Money is green, doesn't matter what color the hands are that spend it. You never know who you are snubbing in your business and bad service or in this case , NO service can affect your business...be careful how you treat people, discriminatory practices are never a good idea!
