How to Have the Best Day Ever in Singapore

"Centrally located on the historic Telok Ayer Street, Free the Robot is a solid choice for a morning pick-me-up. Coffee here is served in preparations both classic and creative—think a Kopi Cola, fusing a double-shot of espresso with a botanically-brewed Cola, and the house signature of coffee, milk, and coconut oil. Breakfast options include an acai chia bowl, corned beef sandwich, and an egg-and-mayo smoked salmon croissant. Once you’re adequately buzzed, stroll down the block to see the many temples and mosques built by Chinese and Muslim immigrants in the early 1800s." - Dan Q. Dao

Great dining experience with my dog here. There is a sofa for my dog to sit and there are fans nearby for cooling down. She felt comfortable and even fell asleep. I had a nice lunch with a friend here. We ordered crab pasta and chicken thigh, both are delicious. Their FTR signature coffee is also nice. We enjoyed our coffee chat in the restaurant. Highly recommend to pet lovers.

I honestly think the name of the restaurant is really whacky, and who would have guessed it is a restaurant and not some tech gadget store? Anyway, the restaurant was beautifully decorated, not a single resemblance of some futuristic or robots themed design. The menu was pretty good with a good amount of variety. Thumbs up for the salmon ceviche with nachos. But slight complains that there was just too much chips and not enough salmon. The avocado with sous vide chicken breast was OMG. I love how they lightly toasted/pan fried the toast, which was extremely crisp and addictive. The chicken breast and avocado was proportioned nicely and honestly, makes me very fully. The prawn pasta was also raved by my partner. I had a taste and I must say it was nicely cooked and you can taste the Unami from the prawn broth. They have cocktails for $10-$15 on weekends and who can miss out a good mimosa? Btw, there are only 2 outdoor tables which are pet friendly.

10/10 dining experience here! Been huge fans of FTR since 2018 and the standard of food & drinks never once failed every single visit here. Our favourite dishes are the fish tacos, beef cubes, shashuka and fish & chips! Absolutely the best, and super love the interior. Good decision to move the tables to face the bar— the skylight shining through the ceiling glass is definitely a vibe 💯❤️Thank you so much for the great service & hospitality Ernest!! 🤩

Google
Highly recommend this cafe! My second time here and loved it just as much as the first time. I got the crab pasta, my friend who wasn’t planning on getting anything tried a bite and immediately decided to order her own because it was too good 🤣 this is the first cafe I’ve been to that has a live DJ as well. It can get pretty noisy during the day but it adds on to the vibes. The staff were really friendly; it’s more of a restaurant than a cafe but they let me stay on to do my work there for a little while which was nice :)

Google
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere (love the French techno beats!) Had one of their weekend brunch menu item (can’t remember the name) -triple cooked potatoes that were crunchy and amazing. The scrambled eggs were out of this world ! Best I’ve ever had! Their signature coffee with coconut oil is a must try too!!

It was my first visit here on 2 March 25, and I was impressed by the friendly and excellent service crew! The atmosphere is also a great reason to visit. Be sure to come on the weekend for an in-house live DJ!

Google
First time to this lovely place today and my experience is WOW! Ordered the signature pistachio toast which came visually so appealing and eat mouthful amazing! Ordered the steak and it was done with finesse! Superbly done and the juices just fills the mouth with its natural flavour! I love the chicken Caesar which came on a bed of half a lettuce! Amazingly sweet and flavorful! We were given complimentary salad and coffee which adds to a lovely experience! Will definitely come again!

A very nice and cosy cafe with beautiful flowers and very thoughtful little decorations. We went there on Saturday. The upbeat music makes the vibe lively. The service was smooth and friendly. We tried their Avocado Toast which was with sweet syrup. It is a bit different from what we normally have as savoury toast. We also tried Açai Bowl. It’s too sweet. The octopus was good. Highly recommended. Salmon rice bowl is also not bad. Give it a try. We spent average $50 person after GST.

Yelp
Amazing vibes in this speakeasy type bar/coffee shop. Great drinks as well and you really can't go wrong with anything you order. I loved how the have the menu organized with a table of contents that shows you what to order based on what you're in the mood for. Such a great idea. Music inside completed the vibe. Came back to back days and probably will come back again.

Yelp
A comfortable cafe with all the vibez on point. It has a rustic hippie feel with darker benches near the entrance and beautiful sunlight (perfect for that gram!) For the bar seats. While the atmosphere did not disappoint, their signature free the robot coffee did not impress. While the cold one had a decently even taste of coconut-reminding you of ondeh ondeh-throughout, the hot version was, as mentioned by another foodie, but a normal cuppa with a layer of coconut oil floating on top. What was bad was their vanilla coffee, which did not blend at all with their beans and left a rather pungent taste in the mouth. My food buddy even found a piece of paper in her drink, which was honestly unacceptable. What made the visit rather unpleasant was the staff which kept hovering around our seats and were swift to clear our cups even when the cafe was rather empty. That being said, credit must be given for their somewhat enthusiastic service. Overall, a place worth a visit. Whether it warrants a trip back depends on your personal preference! I'd say no for the coffee, but I haven't tried the food so that might make up for it. There's also a really cute dog named Baileys there on most days!

Yelp
Get the "Free The Robot" Signature. Yes, it's one of the more pricier drinks at $6. However, I found it quite unique: coconut, espresso, and milk. The coconut really makes a difference! I can't say that I've ever tried that combo before in a coffee, and this one really worked well. I hosted a CMYE (community manager Yelp event) here and what I didn't realise was how small the space was. It's also very dark inside, as they purposefully cover the windows. It was very stuffy during our visit; even though they had air conditioners and fans running, I wasn't sure if they were actually working. Bottom line: Great place for takeaway coffee or for grabbing coffee with a friend... any more than 4 people would already be a crowd during peak hours!

Yelp
Nice place..love the cool interior. However, I don't quite like the coffee. Macchiato is sour and flat white tastes too milky. Could hardly taste the coffee. I'm disappointed.

Yelp
I used to frequent Sarnies cafe a few steps away until recently when their part time staff blew me away with their lousy attitude. So I ventured out into the unknown and hit up Free The Robot a few steps down the road. Boy, am I glad I did! Coffee they serve are from Toby's Estate and are pretty on point. Fantastic atmosphere. Loving the nook they've created by blocking out most of the outside, so you feel like you're in a Melbourne alleyway. Tiny gripe is that with gst(?) my average latte from $5 came up to about $6.40. Pricey for 2 shots of coffee and some milk. I work around the area so that adds up pretty quickly.

Yelp
(+) Vibe of the place is on point my favorite one so far in telok ayer! Cold brew amazeballs Sensible prices on the menu Burger was tasty and relatively cheap at $12 (-) Limited space, not great for meeting that needs privacy Update: been here a few times now and it continues to be amazing. Their menu is reasonably priced and coffee is amazing! Plus they have a super cute friendly dog. Hope they stay this way.

Yelp
Grungy hole in the Wall Cafe (bright red rain awning at front door is how you know it's this cafe). Coffee offerings include oat or soy milk. I had former but it wasn't that great (quite sour) -- should use Oatly! Avocado toastie was amazingly yummy but way overpriced for three slices for $10 including a bunch of undressed salad leaves (!!) Weekday morning and sufficiently empty and calm to find tables. Tad dark at some spots making reading difficult.

Yelp
Breakfast was delish. Cute decor and presentation. Price was just right and happy we got to eat here while we visited Singapore!

Yelp
Best cold brew I have ever had! They add coconut oil to the Signature Cold Brew Coffee and its incredible - not too sweet, but still very creamy/milky. They also deliver on uber eats. The food is good but the toasties are very bread heavy since the toast is over an inch thick and not that good.

Yelp
We visited Singapore for a week and ate here most mornings. The food and beverages were great. Foods of a good size and everything made fresh to order. Take your time looking at the menu as there are options for breakfast is a couple places. The folks who work there are great!

Yelp
Robot is a good, solid, comfortable place. Many items at Robot are made in-house. This includes their light, buttery brioche, their flavoursome meatballs, and even their pesto, redolent of basil. The food is one manifestation of the pride and effort the folks behind Robot put into all they provide; the warm hospitality is another which you won't fail to notice. Attentive yet unobtrusive, always eager to share more on the provenance of their edibles - these guys are wonderful hosts. This, despite its low prices for the area. I wouldn't necessarily speak in hyperbole about Robot*; it's more a "consistent, high batting average" kind of place. It doesn't have "the absolute best salad!" I'd head to Salad Shop with its dozens of customisable options, though then I'd have to deal with massive lines and sometimes surly staff. Nor does it have "the absolute best coffee!" For which I'd trek to Nylon at Everton, where the excellent folks do beautiful coffee, and only coffee. But whatever does Robot serves they do do well, and I'm always very pleased to get my salad and coffee from them. Also, take note of the quirky, hand-painted murals. There's so much to spot! Visiting Robot is like hanging out in the home of your cool, arty, ultra-foodie friends. *Actually, Robot has the best cafe ambassador in the form of four-legged Baileys

Yelp
I've been here a few times and I want to go back again soon. They serve coffee, cold pressed juices and an all day menu of sandwiches, eggs, salads, a pasta, burger and cake. Bread and cakes are all homemade, down to the small English muffins. Small menu and portions on the petite side but the prices are noticeably less than others in the area. - Latte. Consistently well made and they do it better than another place I go to regularly (the Lokal), I think I had the woolloomooloo blend $5. Yes they do skinny or fat milk here. - Smoked salmon muffin, I didn't realise till it arrived that this was served on a homemade English muffin. Super yummy but I really need a bigger muffin to soak up that yoghurty sauce. $8 - Sous vide egg is $3, add $2 for truffle oil and a piece of jamon with a tiny piece of toasted brioche. Again, the brioche needs to be upsized so do what I do and order their white bread for dipping ala kopitiam style. We loved the truffle version, truffle flavour was clear. - Toasted white bread - this is really good white bread and really toasted lightly with butter. They need to add some jam as a condiment for those who want it. $3 for 3 pieces - Tuna toastie $6 - same white bread, simple fillings but tasted quite fresh and not like how tuna can sometimes get a smell if opened too long. - fruitcake made by the owner's mom. He told me his mom is health conscious and he worried it wasn't sweet enough but for me this was perfect because it was light, fragranced delicately but clearly with spice and didn't have that greasy feel leaving your fingers all oily. Very moisty, I might have to go back to get a loaf. Loaf for $12 but you can get it per slice. I love the look of the place, the handpainted wall murals, little cubby hole window and the name Free the Robot. Yes, my robot definitely needs to be freed more often. At night this turns into the bar Bitter and Love so they close shop at 4:30pm.

Yelp
My comfort place in the mornings... :) excellent coffee, cold pressed juice, and comfort breakfast food. Try the smoked salmon muffin if you can't decide

Yelp
Solid four starts. Went early on a Saturday and two of us racked up a nearly $40 brunch. That was the only downside of the trip. Food was good, coffee was better, great music, nice staff, cool ambiance. I will definitely go back. Loved it. Not sure if we caught a one-off experience but it wasn't too crowded which was a plus.

Yelp

Yelp
Good coffee, hip environment, and really friendly workers. My fiancé and I tried a flat white and their specialty drink with coconut oil in it. Both were really good. The coconut oil adds a nice sweetness to the coffee. I would definitely come back again.

Yelp
food ambience service Price Can't say much more than this. like the concept of it as it does feel like you are a robot set free from the daily grunt .

Yelp
Dim, cozy spot within the arcades with very solid comfort food and helpful staff. Looking forward to trying evening cocktails next time.

Yelp
The food here is delicious, and wonderfully presented. The staff is very kind, adding to the already wonderful atmosphere. I would definitely recommend coming here for a nice brunch that isn't too pricey!!

Yelp
a bit like a hole in a construction site. cramp n sweaty. dark n dingy even during a bright sunny day.
