The 32 Best Things to See and Do in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)
"Whenever I arrive in a new city I start with a free walking tour for orientation, and Free Walking Tours Amsterdam offers daily 2–3 hour tours that give a great overview of the city, history, and main sights — I always tip my guide at the end. If you want a more in-depth paid option there are other recommended tours as well." - Matthew Kepnes
Wendy was so much fun!!! We really thought Amsterdam was not gonna be that much more interesting than other dutch cities but he made it so amusing! Knowing how deep he knows the history of the city and even the history of other regions is amazing. Would completely recommend and probably do another next time. Take Wendy y’all! 10/10 <3

Excellent tour of Amsterdam! I learned a lot about the city in a really nice overview of different neighborhoods. Craig was the tour guide and he was phenomenal! He took care of us by keeping us safe from the bikes and traffic. He also only did his presentation when everyone was present and in a semi-circle around him. It's never fun to miss half the tour because you got stuck at the back where you can't find the guide. They also only take 15 people max per guide so it isn't an overwhelming group. Definitely take this tour for a really nice overview of Amsterdam. Craig talked about everything from Anne Frank's hiding place, to architecture, to different neighborhood characteristics, to changes the Government is making to the Red light district and coffee shops. It's a perfect way to find spots to explore deeper while staying in town.

This was a good tour, 2 hours total, we didn’t walk as much as I thought but that’s because everything was so close together. Sebastian was very informative along the tour and had good stories to share with us. Def recommend for an afternoon to get a grasp of the city and the history!

Yasmin was a brilliant tour guide and very knowledgeable about the history of Amsterdam. She took us through all the main sites in central Amsterdam and answered all the questions most tourists typically have about what is and isn’t acceptable when visiting the city. I’ll be booking onto some of their other tours whilst I’m here.

Went walking with Craig, wonderful tour steeped in history and culture. He pointed out some very interesting features in the city and would have not noticed it otherwise. You learn about the past, the present and the possible future of this intriguing city.
Would 100% recommend this tour to those who haven’t been to Amsterdam before or if you are returning and want to learn more.
