The 13 Best Things to Do in Quito, Ecuador

"I found taking a free walking tour one of the best ways to get my bearings in Quito: Free Walking Tour Ecuador offers daily free tours (plus paid food and cultural options) that last a couple of hours, cover the main sights, give a crash course in history and local life, and are free aside from a tip for the guide—food tours are a great option if you want to see the city while sampling local eats." - Matthew Kepnes

The best walking tour I have done. It went beyond just talking about the city and monuments but also about Ecuadorian culture, politics, market fruits, chocolate and more! Thanks so much Miriam for being such a ball of sunshine. It felt like I was hanging out with a super knowledgeable friend. This tour also lasted 3 hours! But went sooo quickly. I gained so much value from it. Definitely recommend it to anyone who is in Quito.

I went in with medium expectations since it was a free walking tour. I was so surprised!! The organization of the tour was excellent, with a meeting spot in old town that was easy to find. Our guide, Miriam…she was simply amazing! In her words and her stories, I could tell she was passionate about Ecuador and Quito and really wanted to share this with everyone. It was the first tour that I was genuinely invested in and I didn’t want the tour to end! She took us to a local market and explained to us how the locals buy their produce and food there. We walked the streets of Old Town and she gave us a lot of information that I hadn’t heard before. Please consider booking this walking tour if you want a real taste of the local vibe, and make sure you ask for Miriam!

I booked the walking tour upon arrival in Quito, and would definitely do it again! The tour was very informative plus we could taste some local fruits and chocolate. Best start when you’re new to Quito!

Our Ecuadorian guide spoke clearly in good English. She took the time to teach us lots of things we otherwise would never have discovered, especially in the market. The pace was good and the selection of places this dude was nicely varied. She added context it’s really enhanced the experience. It’s a professional operation; our diverse group was quite pleased.

We attended a free walking tour with our guide Miriam, a few days ago. We were only three people, so it felt almost like a private tour. Everything was very casual, however it was very informative and Miriam was very knowledgeable about Quito, it's history, Ecuadorian culture, the current situation etc etc. We were able to ask many questions, and she provided us was lots of insider knowledge. Furthermore, the visit of the central market, including a food tasting, as well as the chocolate tasting, which took place in a hotel, were great and informative experiences. Obviously the tour isn't really for free, as a donation is expected, which is fair enough, and this money is definitely spent for a good purpose. Ecuador and especially it's tourism and hospitality are currently having a hard time. The country has probably seen better times, but things are not as bad as they appear on the media. It's still a very beautiful country, with lovely people, and with some common sense, it's still safe and definitely worth to enjoy it.

Had an amazing tour with local guide Ivan. Ivan knows the history of Equador and Quito very well and shares lots of interesting anecdotes and legends. Also we got to taste many local products, like chocolate and fruits. The balance between walking and information was perfect! His English is also very clear. Would highly recommend!
