How Much Does it Cost to Visit Sweden in 2025?

"I recommend taking Free Tour Stockholm's walking tour — it covers all the highlights, lasts around two hours, is free to join, and is a great way to see the city on a budget (just remember to tip your guide)." - Matthew Kepnes

How to Visit Stockholm on a Budget in 2025

"When I arrive in a new city I take a walking tour, and the best ones in Stockholm are run by Free Tour Stockholm; they offer tours of the Old Town (Gamla Stan) that highlight the city's best sights, history, and gorgeous architecture, run in English and Spanish, last a couple of hours, cover all the main sights, and make a great primer on the city (just be sure to tip your guide)." - Matthew Kepnes

Google
The tour was really fun, and the guide shared lots of interesting information along the way. We got to explore many different areas, and the 2-hour walk was just the right length. Friendly and engaging guide — highly recommend!

Excellent tour by our young guide Helena. She knew her history and how to make it interesting to a large international group. She managed the tour very well, pacing it right and timing it well to avoid the many other guided tours going on in the old town. Well deserved her cash tip at the end. Thank you for a great introduction to Stockholm!

A great overview of Gamla Stan in Stockholm. Our tour guide Ben was super knowledgeable and engaging. Loved our trip and tour in Stockholm.

Google
I like finding free walking tours, which gives you the ability to pay for performance. Sofia didn’t fail to impress and I would definitely recommend participating. A great overview of Gamla Stan, which we will expand upon tomorrow by going to some of the places we passed.

We had a great tour today in the old town with Marta. She was very good. She told a lot of interesting stories in a very nice way which was easy to understand.

Google
Fantastic tour with great guide. Happy to compensation well after the tour. Knowledgeable and engaged waited for the group every stop. Travelled with my mom so glad she waited.

Google
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the tour guides name, but the tour was excellent. She told us a lot of nice facts and added some humor in also. She made sure that no one got left behind and tried to make sure everyone could hear. We noticed some people not tipping, and that is just wrong. Don’t be selfish and cheap and show some appreciation. If you can’t do that little, don’t take a free tour.

Yelp
This is the best deal going in downtown Stockholm! I went to the 1000 tour on a Saturday morning and the 1300 tour Sunday. Both were just awesome! They were both different enough that each was worth the experience. Each tour lasts about 1.5 hours and the group size (in my case) was manageable. You get to hear a unique perspective on the area from someone who lives in Stockholm. My guides were very knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions. Don't waste your time or money on the other tours. Go to the Free Walking Tour! Don't forget to tip your Guide, though. They're worth it!

Yelp
You know something, I really enjoyed my city tours with this company. I have used Sandeman's very often in the past, but their tours were not available, and honestly, I am glad these folks were here instead. For those of you who don't know, Sandmann's has a free city tour (where offered) that lasts about 3 hours. However, if you are then interested in other tours (Alternative, Old Town, etc.) you have to pay for them. Here, this is not the case, the company offers three different tours (City Tour, Old Town, and Gamla Stan (I think)). All of them work on a free (tips only) basis. I spent literally a whole day going on all three tours they offer... and there is enough time to grab a quick bite in between and head to the next one. The guides I experienced the city with were Ellen and Ben; both of them were awesome! They were informative, high energy, and friendly. Tours were a good combination of seeing lots of stuff, as well as hearing detailed, but not boringly so, explanation of what we are looking at, the story behind it, and how it related to the city. Tour length of about 90 minutes was actually quite nice, especially when you consider that you can take all three of their tours for free. As for start locations, they are both easy to get to by the T-Bana. The brochure details where the first and third tour meets, but more detail of the second tour would be nice. Guides are holding signs, but no the much more visible umbrellas.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the subway art tour with Ina. It was very interesting and I loved learning the history about the different installations and the history behind the whole concept. I wish we could have gone to more stations with the guide, but it was easy to find people from the tour to tag along with after the tour was completed.

Yelp
The walking tour of Stockholm city was very fun! Our tour guide, Joe, provided great historical facts about Sweden and especially this beautiful city. The tours do start on time, and vary in size. We were here in August and our group was about 15 people. The whole thing lasts 2 hours and you will walk around town, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. At the end, tips are suggested but not required. I think you'll find that this walking tour is well worth tipping your guide. Give Joe a try, if you can. He was great!!

Yelp
Great tour of Old Town this morning with Alex. He was very engaging and knowledgeable. The two hours flew by. I'm going to try the City Tour tomorrow.

Yelp
A nice way to get familiar with Gamla Stan the old section of Stockholm. Our tour guide was friendly and outgoing if not a bit flaky but it was a fun tour. We had a small group and she brought us to a few areas that I may not have found even though I was staying in Gamla Stan for 4 days. The downside was some of her facts about the city may have been creative but we did have an interesting conversation about the cost of living and taxes in Sweden. She also had a thing about prostitution and the legality or illegality in Sweden. Not sure why that was mentioned and the group was a bit perplexed but it was amusing. It was about an hour tour which was just about right and the tour guide works on tips.

Yelp
This was a great tour! I forget the name of our guide (Alex?) but he was relatively new and reading off his papers, but it still felt smooth and informative. I chose the 10:00 one that stayed just within Gamla Stan. We visited a lot of sites and got some interesting tidbits about various locations or little details on buildings. All in all, definitely recommended as a way to spend 1.5 to 2 hours when you first arrive to the city.

Yelp
A found a hidden jewel while I visited Stockholm. As a tourist, I want to ensure that I find an activities that allows me to enjoy the atmosphere and culture of the place that I am visiting. I selected Free Walking Tours of Stockholm because it offered a 5 hour tour with a knowledgeable local tour guide. Our Tour Guide was Anastasia, she provided so many amazing details that after the first 30 minutes of the tour I was convinced I could have search all over Stockholm and could not have found a better activity to fill my day. I recommend this tour the first thing in the morning because there is information that your guide will provide you that can be used later on in the day that will allow you to find the best deals in Stockholm.

Yelp
What a fantastic way to see the city!! It's our first time in Stockholm and this tour was perfect! Our guide Hannah was awesome, quick with a joke and also has unlimited facts about the city and history!! Would highly recommend. Even though it rained we still had a large group!!

Biana M.

Yelp
Amazing walk with Joe from England on our tour, highly recommend! He gave us info on the buildings, the royal family, and general life in Stockholm. Tour lasted 1:45 and it was very educational and fun. Would recommend for sure.

Yelp
We did both of the free tours over our stay in Stockholm. The tour guides were fantastic. It was great to learn about stockholm through their experiences. They were both from other countries and spoke very good english. One of them was a bit difficult to understand when she faced away from us bit it was a small group so it wasn't too bad. As someone on a low budget, I appreciated the opportunity to get a free tour and just having to tip.

Yelp
This was a really interesting and useful tour especially given that it was free! Our tour guide, Hannah, was very knowledgable and nice about answering questions regarding recommendations. Its 1.5 hours, mostly of Gamla Stan, and tips are encouraged at the end so having cash on hand is useful.
