The 21 Best Things to Do in Madrid in 2025

"I love taking free walking tours because they're a budget-friendly way to see the main sights, learn history, and get a feel for the city; Free Walking Tours Madrid offers comprehensive tours and gives you access to a local guide who can answer questions (just make sure to tip your guide at the end)." - Matthew Kepnes

The Best Walking Tours in Madrid (Updated 2025)

"For a compact but thorough primer on Madrid and Spanish history, Free Walking Tours Madrid is hard to beat — it's technically not free (you register and pay 3 EUR to guarantee a spot), but you cover Madrid's origins as a small Arab town through the Spanish empire, the Civil War and Franco's dictatorship, and the post-Franco 'Movida' era." - Matthew Kepnes

My tour guide, Miguel, was absolutely fantastic! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to make the experience enjoyable. Miguel shared fascinating Spanish history, weaving in stories that brought the city’s past to life. He also pointed out hidden gems and recommended local spots to try authentic food, which was a wonderful touch. His enthusiasm for Madrid and its culture was contagious, making the tour both fun and educational. Miguel ensured everyone felt included and answered all our questions with patience and detail. The pacing of the tour was perfect, allowing us to take in the sights without feeling rushed. I left the tour with a greater appreciation for Madrid and a list of places I can’t wait to explore further. If you’re visiting the city, I highly recommend booking a tour with Miguel—you won’t regret it!

Probably the best walking tour I’ve been on. Miguel combines the fascinating history of Madrid with juicy gossip of what happened behind the scenes and recommendations of where to eat in non-tourist locations. Highly recommend the tour.

So glad we decided to do this while in Madrid. It was my first walking tour and it exceeded my expectations. Angel did an amazing job taking us all around the city and teaching us so much, even despite the rain we had. High recommend (and don’t forget to tip!)

This walking tour was a fascinating entree to the city. Miguel was incredibly knowledgeable about his city and its history. The presentation was entertaining and interesting and invited engagement and questions. Thank you. Included some great recommendations for sights and restaurants at the end of the Honest Greens was excellent

Perfect tour to get an overview of the old town of Madrid. Our tour guide Miguel gave us lots of historical insights, but also fun facts and good recommendations for food. Definitely recommended, especially if you haven't been to Madrid before and want a summary of the most important things and good food. Entertaining and very interesting! Would love to go again. 🙂
