On the Grid : Recreation Park

"Walk your dog, pick up a game of basketball, watch a high school baseball game, practice your swing in a batting cage, or play a round of tennis. With a residents-only membership card, you can reserve a tennis or racquet ball court, check out recreation equipment, and reserve a picnic table for a family bbq. It's a park and a half and hosts several community events throughout the year, including its well-known 4th of July celebration." - Eat.Sleep.Work.

Unfortunately, this is not a park. Rather, this place can be called a field. Several dusty paths run through this field. There is no entertainment for children at all. There are only a few benches to enjoy the view of a deserted field with a high high voltage line. It's strange when such places are called a park. We could put up at least a small children's playground and possibly install a horizontal bar and bars for outdoor sports. You can add more plants (low-growing ones, since most likely there are restrictions due to the power line)

This is a good park but not a great park; it'll get the job done though. Quiet from the beach and not loud from LAX (but you can hear the planes); the powerlines above do crackle and buzz but wasn't loud enough to be a distraction from reading a book. Paths are dirt and clear of tree debris, garbage pails look regularly changed. Grass is short enough to play soccer but looks a bit clumpy and uneven in areas and benches are old but kept clean. Even on Memorial Day weekend, the park had maybe 5 people in it overall- if you want a relaxing time away from everything, this is the place.

On our way to LAX last Saturday (9/23//17) we had a little extra time and my grand daughter loves the beach so we decided to go to Freedom Park. We were a little unclear as to what it really was. There was a celebration of some sort and every street with beach access was sealed off. Unfortunately we didn't have that kind of time. It looked very nice, easy to walk up in and there were many people all seeming to be happy and glad to be there. I look forward to visiting again soon. That was my first trip to El Segundo Beach. Loved it.

A nice stretch of grass that runs thru the city. Safe place for kids, good place to exercise or walk your dog. Nothing fancy, just a cool spot to be.

Freedom park is perfect for a nice walking path, but early afternoon is best before the workout groups take it over and the rude people completely block you in parking

This is the park under the power lines where the exercise equipment is. Nice spot for calisthenics, but there are ants everywhere!

It's a good little park to take your pal to have fun

Yelp
A large green lawn with walking trails. We took our kids to play frisbee while staying the night in nearby hotel.

Yelp
When I visit my husband, who works during the week at a local Aerospace company, we bring our 3 dogs here to walk. They really love it. I agree with the other poster about the power lines & the humming. However, our male dog doesn't seem to care, as he just happily lifts his leg on the base of every tower!! Yes, it's not the most attractive park, but as a "potty" for our pups, it serves the purpose!

Yelp
Freedom Park is less of a full featured park than it is a greenbelt located under high voltage power lines fashioned into a park. It's very green. Very, very green. It also has a sandy foot path through it from one end to the other. This park is sparsely lined with clumps of foliage and park benches. It would be suitable for walking or jogging if you don't mind the hum of power lines overhead.

Yelp
Please remember flight 77 from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles on 9/11. Many Boeing employees and El Segundo residents use this park as a local memorial. Rueben and Chandler, know that you will always be remembered!
