We recently visited Freiburg Cathedral, also known as Freiburger Münster, and honestly, it’s one of those places you’re glad you didn’t skip. From the moment we walked up to the huge square in front of it, we couldn’t stop staring at the massive Gothic tower—no wonder they say it’s one of the most beautiful church towers in Europe. We decided to climb all the way to the top—yes, 335 steps! It’s not for the faint-hearted, but the views over Freiburg and the Black Forest made every step worth it. Just a small tip: if you’re planning to go inside, check the service times beforehand because you’re not allowed to take pictures during sermons. We made sure to be respectful, took in the atmosphere quietly, and avoided snapping photos of people inside. The stained glass windows and carvings were incredible—really something special. We parked at Schlossberggarage, which is super close and easy to find, but there are also cheaper park-and-ride options with tram connections if you don’t mind a short ride into the city. We visited on a weekday morning, and it felt just right—not too busy. If you can, try to go when the outdoor market on Münsterplatz is open; the whole area comes alive with fresh produce and local crafts. Only downside? The climb isn’t suitable for everyone, and it gets busy later in the day. But honestly, Freiburg Cathedral is more than just a building—it’s an experience that sticks with you long after you leave. Would we recommend it? Absolutely.
