French Café Hotel

Hotel has a great location. That’s all. Just do not expect any service. The reception is deserted for most of the day. When we called on the phone to report the total failure of the airconditioning (twice), no action was taken and nobody replied for two days. The problem did not get solved, resulting in 30 Celsius in the room. A text message got answered after 2 days only.

Terrible experience. Hotel had loud construction work going on -which was not informed when we booked-and the noise started as early as 6h30. It was so early we had trouble finding someone to complain about it. No customer care, zero Comfort. On top of that, some things in the room were not working. Definetely would not recommend.

I am deeply disappointed with my experience at this hotel. At the time of booking, there was absolutely no mention that the hotel would be undergoing major renovation works. We were assigned a room directly beneath the construction floor, and to make matters worse, the noise started at 6:30 AM. There was no receptionist on duty at that hour to address our complaints, and when I finally managed to raise the issue, I was completely ignored by the staff. No apology, no explanation, no effort to move us to a quieter room — just blatant disregard for guest comfort. This was an unacceptable and highly unprofessional way to treat paying guests. Only book this place if you enjoy being woken up before sunrise by construction noise. Otherwise, avoid it at all costs. Also, many things in the room were not working.

Nice place, food was good, wine awesome and incredible service by Mahir (great guy, ask for him)! I enjoyed the mussels. Honestly, we walked around and came back for this place 2 times 🤙 #fairprice

Worst hotel of our European holiday... The room was extremely hot when we arrived. Staff said he would have it fixed but 5 hours later it was still over 80 degrees F. The second staff opened another man's room and offered to move him out so we could switch rooms. What?! They told us to open the windows because their air-conditioned did work. Noise was persistent throughout the night and early morning. There was no sound-proofing or insulation at all. The bedroom door wasn't sealed and bright light shown through. If you need to sleep, don't stay here!

Travellers looking for a decent hotel in the heart of Luxembourg will make a good choice by opting for Hotel Français. This small hotel offers simple but clean rooms with all the basic amenities. My room had a comfortable double bed, air conditioning, coffee and tea making facilities, two bottles of water, a TV and a small desk. In the bathroom a nice selection of toiletries is available. On the downside, the shower has a curtain and a high step, the safe is too small for storing a laptop and the Wi-Fi connection was rather slow on the second night. In the morning guests can take advantage of the breakfast buffet, which offers a nice selection (although no hot options) and is served in a cosy and quiet room. Finally, the friendly staff is an added bonus. Situated on the lively Place d'Armes, Hotel Français is within walking distance of all the main attractions. Therefore it may be useful to indicate your preferred room at the time of booking. Rooms facing the square offer nice views, but can be noisy with the window open (no outside noise with the window closed). Rooms at the back are a little darker, but quiet enough to sleep with the window open. Finally the "Hamilius" bus and tram stop is just a few minutes' walk away, making this hotel easily accessible by the free public transport.
