12 Things to Do in New Orleans With Kids (That Are Fun for You, Too)

"French Quartour Kids has several tours—the Creole Kids Tour and the Music History Tour, among others—but the Spooky Tour is the most popular. Families tour haunted sites (like the LaLaurie Mansion and Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar) and use ghost-hunting tools like ectoplasm, mirrors, and thermal energy readers to do their own detecting. The guides are all teachers, and they do an excellent job making the experience educational, interactive, and playful—tip them well." - Stirling Kelso

We had the BEST time with Miss Danielle on the Twilight Ghost Tour. It is a Herculean task to keep an inquisitive 6 year old focused and having fun, and boy did she deliver! The stories were tailored to my kid (6-10), so nothing too graphic but enough to keep them engaged (and a little spooked😂). Miss Danielle brought a personal perspective to the tour which was cool to hear her weave her local family’s own heritage and traditions into the historical tidbits. She was patient and handled every 6 year old non-sequitur comment/question like a champ! This tour is a great way to dip your kiddo’s toes into the deep and rich spooky side of New Orleans in a consumable way, and ends on an incredibly positive and light note. My kids loved the ghost hunting tools and gadgets—what a blast! This is truly a must-do tour to make the kids feel a part of the local history!

We had a fantastic time for my daughter’s 7th birthday. Jill was able to keep the kids engaged and they loved all the ghost hunting gadgets.

Exceptional tour for our kids and adults. We even got to play a bit of a game! Ask for the pirate themed tour if interested. Our Tour guide’s name was Jill. I have never seen a complete stranger be so good with children. She was exceptional and made our trip to Nola! I can HIGHY, recommend this tour, frankly we would do it again in a heartbeat!

We had an incredible time on Leeann’s tour! My kids are 12 and 9 and she did a great job interacting with them meeting them at their level. We learned a bunch of history about the French Quarter, but what the kids really loved was ghost hunting with various devices. I would highly recommend this tour!

So good! We did this tour 2 years ago when my kids were 6 & 8 and they have been asking to go back ever since! The guides have been fantastic with the kids. The info is presented so kids understand and are entertained, but it is great for the parents as well! The tour doesn’t actually cover much ground and she stopped at places they could sit down while she talked so they don’t get tired of walking.

Such a fantastic walk! The kids had a blast—and honestly, so did the adults. The stories were super entertaining and packed with cool history and culture about New Orleans.Definitely a fun way to explore the city!

Tour guide really was a teacher and she kept the kids engaged and entertained for the solid 90 minutes without batting en eye. My (very active, very enthusiastic, very talkative) 8-year-old had a blast on the French Quarter history tour. Walking very short distances, then seated to listen for good stretches - well timed for ages and attention spans. Heavier on the French history than the Creole living history described on the website, but all around A+ for a family vacation experience - although the content and delivery was geared to a young audience, teens and parents were entertained and learned a few things as well.
