I was very excited for my first visit to Fridas! I wanted to give it a try but I was sooooo disappointed. First of all, the air conditioning was out and the manager apologized but I thought maybe it is not so bad. San Antonio had restaurant week where restaurants can show off there menus in a smaller version. So I went to try it during this event. I ordered ceviche and it was two raw shrimp with avocado on the side. I could not eat it because I thought it would make me sick (see picture). I ordered the salmon and was told I could not order that and so I ordered the shrimp with pasta (see picture). I told the waiter I could not eat cream so this is what they brought me. Then, my husband ordered the chicken dish. It was disgusting and tasted like lighter fluid.

We had dinner at Frida in Stone Oak. It’s a lot nicer inside than other Mexican restaurants but still casual. For our appetizer, we had the esquites, and they were nothing short of AMAZING! The flavors were on point, and we couldn't get enough of it. For my entree, I had the cachetada ribeye tacos. I thought they were just ok. My daughter had the tacos al pastor which she enjoyed. I was offered a choice of strawberry or mango tea and I chose strawberry. However I got mango. Didn’t say anything as it was still good. Our server was very sweet and helpful but it did take a long time for her to give us our check and there was hardly anyone there. One aspect that stood out to me was the unique twist on the menu. They don’t offer Mexican dishes such as enchiladas, fajitas, etc. as I’m used to seeing in most. This is more of your “traditional” Mexican restaurant. You can check out their menu and give them a try.

I have passed by this place several times and have been wanting to stop, I’m glad I did. The food and service was excellent. I got the Pastor tacos and a corn dish I cannot pronounce. However, both were very delicious server was very attentive and present. The Mexican martini was nice and strong. I definitely will be back. I do believe even the manager stopped by and said hi. My only critique is the menu said the tacos come with five, I only got four. Yes, you see three in this picture because I already ate one of them.

We came to lunch on a Friday and the service was lacking. There was two families there too and still no waiters in sight most of the time. I am bilingual and I heard some inappropriate comments on the other side of the half wall they placed us next to. The food was good and the churro cart was good. We might try dinner next time so there is more atmosphere and attentiveness. We had to wait for the waitress a while to get a box and dessert. She took her time coming back after that but almost ran back when we asked for the bill like she wanted us to leave.

I was pleasantly surprised by Frida and the staff. The atmosphere, food menus, and execution were very well thought out. The food was terrific, and the waitress was wonderful. I will be going back to try their dinner menu.

Just what SA needed! I took some out of town friends here on Saturday night after making reservations and automatically loved the vibe when we walked in. There’s a live pianist playing popular songs and the place is colorfully decorated. We got promptly seated and ordered some Oysters Oaxacafeller and Esquites Callejeros (street corn with crickets!), with some Palomas, margaritas and mojitos to start off with. The table then ordered dinner, Chili en Nogada, Duck Flautas, tortilla soup, and fideo with churros for dessert. The food was delicious, the noise level was fine and we were able to hear our conversations but still have good music in the back, and the service was excellent (our waiter was Carlos)! We can’t wait to go back. I’d love to check out the patio and the brunch sometime.

My boss was in town and we tried Frida for lunch. The restaurant looks great and the service was very attentive. But there were only about 6 food items on the menu, so I chose the tacos al pastor, usually a favorite of mine. In all honesty, however, I had to add salt and salsa to give them flavor. My boss really seemed to like her enchiladas mole, however.

I enjoy coming here for drinks and food with friends. My favorite to order is their cauliflower appetizer. It's so good! Service is always great. My friend was allergic to dairy, so, they were very accommodating to her needs.
