How Do You Claim a VAT Refund in Europe?

"Berlin offers a VAT refund program for international shoppers who spend at least €50 in a single store. After purchase, visitors need to get an Ausfuhrbescheinigung and have it stamped by customs upon leaving the EU."

Not-so-modern station. The escalators are often dysfunctional, which makes access to the platform a non-trivial affair with luggage.

Super nice station. Clean, easy overview, and direct access to the airport (BER) by S9.

Very conveniently located near our hotel and many good food options after a long day of sightseeing. All the escalators worked when we were there.

A big station, although not very clean. Unfortunately the time i visited was having a construction which made it worse. There are some food restaurants here and some stores you can check out. Around the station is a nice area with lots of places to visit and check. Although i think this station can have better maintenance.

This is one of the commuter main train station of Berlin city ... almost a dozen of Metrolines of the S-Bahn and the U-Bahn pass through at 3 levels. Also it's a historical place of former border control. Must visit place gor every tourist in town!

Google
It's a very central station and you can find plenty of food and store open on sunday, which is not common in Germany. You can access to regional trains, metro and sbahn (which is the city train). It's very busy all the time, watch always your bags.

Yelp
Bahnhof Berlin-Friedrichstraße is a fairly old Berlin train station, opening in 1882. Historically, it was fully in East Berlin but during the Cold War it was still served from S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines from West Berlin and countries west of the Iron Curtain, hence this has been quite commonly used in popular culture especially associated with Communism, for example this station was even used in the Call of Duty: World at War game. As a station however, I really don't like this place, I find it to be rather old-fashioned and have a rather confusing layout, I entered through a lift and then I needed to get another lift to the other trains, which was out of order, there was no signs to show this until you got to the lift in the station, and even then it wasn't clear. The station staff didn't speak very good English, hence communication was a struggle with the very limited staff members working, for example, they couldn't help redirect me for my journey or even offer help or suggestions, and they didn't even seem to make any attempt at trying. The location is decent with a few shops including a Starbucks nearby also. I also managed to use the "Metro" part of the station, this was okay, it was a typical metro station again, and it wasn't the nicest, cleanest or most modern of metro stations, which basically sums up the train station as a whole. Unhelpful staff, elevator issues and confusing layouts sadly warrant a single one-star rating for Bahnhof Berlin-Friedrichstraße Station in my opinion, which is a shame as this station has a historical element to it, due to its involvement in being one of the few stations in East Berlin, to have services into West Berlin and the Iron Curtain countries (West of course) during the time of the Cold War, but for now sadly deserves a single one-star rating.

Yelp
Friedrichstraße Bahnhof located right in the center of Berlin. If you traveling buy public transport, this is one of the fastest way. The station itself is quite big and historical. I personally really like how the look of the station from outside. It just looks very different and cool. The station is also one of the busiest stations in Berlin. There are many different kind of trains will pass this station. Inner or city to city. In side the station, has quite a lot fast food restaurants. Quite convenient when you need something to eat on the rush. So it really convenient to get around berlin from here. What I don't really like is the transmit system inside. The infomantion isn't that clear for the people who is on rush. It surey take some time to find the right way to the right direction. Especially if you need to change from S1 to S7, S75 those train. My suggestion, stay in the middle or follow where most of the people going. Beside than that, the station itself also seem bit dirty.

Yelp
Avoid this train station if you are alone! I took a stroll by myself and happened upon the station. The area is dirty and crowded. The homeless men sitting on the sidewalks begging, all while alcohol was sitting next to them. I did not feel safe at all and left quickly.

Yelp
I really like this train station: it is in a great location of Frerichstraße and there are also a lot of shops inside, and a Deutsche Post -- which I thought was awesome because I was in a rush to send postcards back to California. I also like that it is close to the U-Bahn station, which is not the case for Potsdamer Platz.

Yelp
A major intersection on the rail network Friedrichstraße station has a sizeable array of shops and is a useful place to visit if, like me, you're staying in a self-catering hotel and need to buy food on a Sunday. Friedrichstraße station was a heavily guarded crack in the Berlin wall and site of a huge border crossing point for Berliners from 1961 to 1989. Mournfully nicknamed the Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears) it was the site of many farewells for West Berliners visiting their friends and family in East Berlin. This part of the station is still standing today. Although it is partly a shopping mall now the West Berlin platforms were home to duty-free shops prior to the fall of the wall as the communist authorities attempted to prise foreign currency from visitors to fund their bankrupt state.

Yelp
The location is nice, as this station is very near Humboldt-Universität and a number of other key destinations in Mitte. However, I sort of dread this place. It is poorly lit and always a bit grimy. The signage is fair to middling, and the escalators and stairways always seem awfully narrow. Another good thing, though, is that the public restrooms are reasonably clean. There are also some decent shops to get a bite to eat, including Asia Gourmet, several bakeries, and an organic food market.

Yelp
A busy, hectic station full of eateries. Surely bigger than it needs to be? A BK and a Mcdonalds, that is greedy. It's not like it has more lines than other smaller stations. Although it does handle a lot of tourists, the size doesn't necessarily help as it can be quite confusing getting around the station.
