I stayed here with a friend for three nights in July 2013. Chris and Friendly Bike Guest House totally made our trip to Portland that much better!! He was friendly and easy to work with over the internet/by phone, the house was cute, quiet and clean, and just overall the place had a great atmosphere. The communal kitchen is always clean and available for your use, the rooms are well lit, friendly and clean. Parking is easy and the neighborhood is great! Very accessible for whatever you are up to in Portland!

I spent over a week here two times, but 5 years apart. The last time was in November 2016. Both stays were excellent. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The other guests were all friendly. The kitchen was clean and often used by guests. Chris was as helpful as good be. The house is right on a bus line. The street next to it has an excellent bike lane. The cars are very careful of and courteous to bicyclists. I walked from the house to Mississippi Street for dinner almost every night and was happy for the pleasant walk. Mississippi Street has many great restaurants. I highly recommend staying here (and plan to do so again myself in May).

This place is awesome. I stayed 3 nights in the double private room. The bathrooms and kitchens were always clean and I really liked the key-code system for entering the house. More practical than keys and safe. Chris, the owner, is super nice, friendly, and helpful. It is also in a really great neighborhood, easy walking distance from lots of eclectic bars, restaurants and shops. 15min bike ride to downtown. If you have the opportunity, definitely stay here!

Such sick digs - amazing location, inviting atmosphere, clean - nothing more to want! I had some family coming into town for really random amount/arrangement of days, coming and going a number of times and Chris was unbelievably accommodating and welcoming. We had a combination of a couple of the private rooms, then transitioned to the semi-private room and all were impeccably clean, comfortable, relaxing, and smelled great! There's a stellar workshop in the basement with a stand to work on your bike, tools for your use, and a rack to lock it up for as long as you want. I felt extremely comfortable, welcome to roam around and meet people, welcome to utilize all the accommodations, and Chris was always available if we need something or had questions.

Loved this place! I was in Portland for a conference, which I was paying for with grant money. Chris was great at accommodating the specifics to have my stay reimbursed with the grant, and with other special requests in light of the conference. The place was clean and quite homey (and might I add quite cute!). Nice location too: near some stores and restaurants, but still quiet around. I hope to return one day!

With the most recent review being so negative I was hesitant to book but the area and bike friendly aspects of the place were too enticing so I stayed three nights in late August. After having stayed here and having talked with the owner several times I can tell you for certain that the previous negative review must have been someone who never met Chris nor stayed at this place. The owner (Chris) was incredibly helpful and generous with his time and energy, even making space when there was none for 2 people bike touring, and allowing me to check in early and leave late. If you're visiting Portland and looking for a comfortable friendly hostel this is your place, I will definitely stay here on any future visits.

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about my stay at FBGH. Even before arriving here, I had spoken with Chris over the phone to discuss the best choice of rooms for my girlfriend and I. He proved to be straightforward and affable, which was a perfect reflection of our stay. We ended up staying in one of the private Full-size rooms on the third floor. Our room was neat and tidy, had plentiful choices for blankets, was finished in lovely greens, and we had two towels waiting for us on the bed (we'd forgotten to bring them, which Chris and his wife seemed to know psychically). Our shared areas (bathroom, kitchen, and living area) were all just as spotless and well-maintained. The dishwasher was out at the time, but my hands were working just fine. There were some nice overstuffed chairs and couch in the common area with a choice of board games, puzzles, and books. Aside from Friday and Saturday night, when pretty much all of Portland is out having a good time, the whole third floor was serene. While there, we met a host of folks from around the world, each of them as pleasant as the next. Never once did I feel unsafe or that my valuables were in danger of being swiped. Instead, an instant camaraderie was formed with everyone we bumped into. Chris was always available through phone or text, though I never had any issues to report. If you're looking for a great, relaxing stay away from the generic, sterile rooms of the major chain hotels and would like the chance to meet and interact with people of the same ilk, don't even bother looking anywhere else.

I stayed at the Friendly Bike for my 2 week UBI class in August. Chris was an awesome guy from booking to helping with returning something I forgot. The bike stand downstairs was perfect for assembling my bike I had shipped. Very clean place. Loved sitting around and talking to other people in the house. I would recommend it to anybody that is staying in the area. Stay as long as you can!! Heard stories from other students of other similar housing places in the area and this was by far the best place for the $$. If I'm ever in the area again I'm staying here. Thanks Chris for the great experience.
