Google
Stopped into Front Street Tavern for a late meal and was surprised to see schnitzel on the menu—not what you’d expect, but it was very good and super filling. Fresh mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes. It’s a nice local spot, especially if you’re looking for something casual and easygoing later in the evening. Everyone was friendly, and getting a table was no problem at all.

Google
Really cool spot with an awesome rooftop bar. The drinks were excellent and unique. I know it's a bit laughable but the fries were excellent, they really stood out. Bang bang shrimp were good too, although personally, would not get them again. The bartender was attentive and personable. Overall a great place

Google
Right next to the parking lot, it is easy to find. The food is excellent! The farm raised chicken probably is the best chicken I had for a while! The selection of food is not wide but each dish are cooked with delicious touch!

Google
fungi pinsa was great, burger was mid, not much flavor. drinks were great, cookie sundae was pretty good. we had a great server, chill atmosphere. will definitely be back!

I absolutely love this place, whether at the bar with Joey or kat or in the dining area with the friendly staff. Happy with the improvements to the menu, the food quality and presentation is very consistent with a very delicate and delicious touch. Roof top is not yet open but it happen right on time because the food just got that much better! The owners are so nice and personable. A must try!! The pictures do not do justice!!

Google
Absolutely 💯 epic experience. Rooftop dining area was beautiful and the ambiance was relaxing. The food was simply perfect in every way. It's a bit expensive but well worth it for the quality and portion sizes. Our waiter was attentive and helpful but not overbearing. The bartender was fun and helpful as well and she made my wife a great margarita. 🍹 Even the host was a pleasure when getting seated. Got the impression that the staff enjoy being there and working with one another, over all a very welcoming experience. Will certainly be back again. No pressure that we stayed pretty late. In fact, we felt more than welcome to hang out after they had closed and were cleaning up. Highly recommend if your in town, or even if your passing by the thruway exit 19, it's only a few minutes off the highway! A++

Actually 5 isn’t high enough! What can I say? Food? Excellent! Service? Excellent! Decor/Vibe? Excellent! We were visiting some friends in the area and decided to have lunch at the Tavern. We were greeted and seated by a very kind and personable gentleman. He was super accommodating! The bar had a great selection of juices and cocktails. I actually had a coffee, which was brewed fresh just for us and was delicious. Calamari? A hit! You also can’t go wrong with the truffle fries. We enjoyed a unique appetizer, Sesame Cauliflower Bites. Pretty tasty. The entree selection was great. I had the grilled chicken and avocado sandwich, my friends and hubby had the grilled cheese with tomato soup special. Very good all around. Special shout out to Jordan, our server. Probably one of the most accommodating, helpful, articulate servers I’ve ever had! She even helped with a quick pic of some of the other food we enjoyed before placing it on the table. Thank you again! Pricing was very reasonable also, which can be tricky in this day and age. The bathrooms were immaculate and smelled great. Anyways… when you’re in Kingston or anywhere within 2 hours of this small charming town, make your way to the Tavern! It’s worth every moment!

Google
The service and atmosphere is fantastic, A+. The food on the other hand is hit or miss. I ordered a $30 braised beef and it literally came with 5 quarter sized chunks of a beef and what I would call instant mashed potatoes. It tasted okay but the portions were so small and not worth the price whatsoever. We also ordered $16 nachos that had what tasted like cheese whiz and prepackaged avocado spread on stale chips, it was pretty bad. Again some of the food is good but after spending $60 on two bad meals I wouldn't really recommend this place unless you're here for the drinks and atmosphere which are solid.

Yelp
Stopped on here for lunch after a meeting. Hadn't been to lunch uptown in quite a while. Even though I used to live in Fair St and ate around there all the time, things have changed so much, I ended up walking all over the place reading menus, all the while I knew I was dying for a burger! So of course landed back on Yelp and Front Street Tavern popped right up. I had been in here a long time ago but only for drinks. I sat the bar and got the Kobe cheeseburger w the house made chips. I couldn't even finish half of the burger it was huge. The chips were amazing, bartender friendly. Only reason for four stars is that my order took like 40 minutes and I ordered it extra rare plus the pace was almost empty cause it was on the late side of lunch. Why would an extra rare burger take 40 mins?? Also it's on the pricey side, but I guess that burger was more like 2-3 meals! Def recommend. I also noticed that they have personal pizzas when I was about leave. If u wanna try those be aware they are on a separate little menu, easy to miss. Oh! And they have a gigantic back room for parties if ur looking for that. It's a very pretty room they renovated recently

Yelp
In short this looks like a historical little pub that we had no huge expectations for and were blown away! As one of our party said this place was punching way ahead of its weight class. It doesn't settle for the usual pub fare and uses high quality freshly made ingredients. To that point some of the items on the specials list were not available Because they ran out. That might seem like a negative but it was because everything seemed to be made fresh daily. Our party enjoyed the schnitzel (including the 'best mashed potatoes ever enjoyed in a restaurant'); delicious bolognese (perfect portion /excellent ingredients). The waitress was helpful and the ambience was very nice. Definitely some regulars at the bar indicating it's worth re-visiting!

Yelp
When hubs searches for restaurants, he relies on his Google Maps, zooms in and picks a place. Not Yelp. Hey....I'm not criticizing, just telling the facts. And so, on a lazy Sunday, hubs and I landed at Front Street Tavern- on Front St in Kingston, NY. Front Street T.'s setting is relaxed and roomy with seating in every square inch- but not in a stuffy way. It serves up hearty starters, salads, main plates, etc. with drinks being more casual than mixology-heavy. We dove right in for main plates+drinks for our quick lunch. My Lavender Lemonade with Tito's was more refreshing than a knockout punch. But it was my Eggplant Parmesan that knocked me off my feet. Possibly the thinnest eggplant slices I've had to date. This was definitely cut out for me- has a tasty, only-tomato sauce- without all those seasonings, has no breadcrumbs on the veg with the perfect amount of Parmesan cheese. This is literally one of the best eggplant parms I've ever had! Service was great the entire time from our guy Trevor. This was a quick and tasty escape- so come hungry and explore the menu.

Yelp
zero stars!.... we have given this place several tries, food is good service is the worse, forget it!

Yelp
Food was so wonderful and especially for our group of 24 people to be served all at the same time. Everyone agreed that service was GREAT and we all had a marvelous time. I personally would go out of my way to eat there again. I live in Florida and go out to eat often and wish the restaurant were near me so I could go there all the time!

Yelp
Wife liked her beet salad, son liked the fish and chips (heavy batter though). I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was awful. No flavor, dry, no butter on the waffles, no seasoning on the chicken. Do yourself a favor and take it off the menu. Try chicken and waffle at other establishments and try to understand what it should be. Because it was awful is every way. I was starving and had to stop eating it. Are my sons leftover fuck instead. Waiter was attentive, good service. Over $90 (after 20% tip) for 3 people having an "ok" lunch = fail FYI, still tipped 20% since it's not my servers fault the kitchen sucks. And the food was pretty crappy. Noticed all the people love this place for the drinks.

Leslie N.

Yelp
I was very disappointed. My husbands fish and chips were over fried and dried . They offered to redo the fries and returned the same way . I ordered Sheperds pie .The potatoes surrounding the 1/2 cup of seasoned beef with scant carrots and peas tasted like instant potato . The food was a 2 . The server was a 5 . Needless to say I will not go back .
google avatar

Adrienne K.

Yelp
Great food and great service in a cozy atmosphere. It's a tavern/bar type atmosphere but with an elevated menu. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch. My husband had a cheesesteak and I had the grilled cheese with tomato soup. Both were very good quality and the service was so friendly and efficient. Can't wait to return.
google avatar

Sana K.

Yelp
My drink was delicious (lavender lemonade). I want really hungry so I just got the fries. I didn't really like them even though the bar recommended them. The aoili wasn't good. I don't like my fries over done and brown. Needed more topping. The service was good though. Views are nice. Limited rooftop options in the area. When you walk in you go past the bar and to your right to go upstairs to the patio.

Lydia S.

Yelp
I find it astounding that the manager of this restaurant would serve me my soup AND main course at the same time. He strolled to my table, a dish in each hand. And then be insulted when I inquired as to if he were nuts serving the soup and main course together. I'm sorry, but it seems to me that if you are in the restaurant business you should know how it's done.

Yelp
Came here on a whim with a large group of friends and Erich sat us immediately even though we didn't have a reservation. They accommodated my food allergies and our service dog and gave us wonderful menu suggestions. I didn't get any photos because I was so hungry but the fried duck was surprisingly the star of the show. Definitely recommend this spot if you're in the area and would love to come here when the weather is nice to enjoy the rooftop!

George L.

Yelp
Outrageous prices: $18 for grilled cheese. Poor quality: nachos with gloppy Cheez-Wiz, bland guac, an inedible mess. Indifferent service: server unapologetic. Used to be decent. Now the opposite. Avoid: expensive mediocrity.
google avatar

Yelp
Normally I'd give this place a solid 3 only because nothing mind blowing but they deserve 4 because of the great service. Pretty roof top dining with a fan to keep bugs away. We had deviled eggs, French onion soup and steak and mashed potatoes to split. The beer selection was good I had the juice bomb. The steak was cooked perfectly and very tender. I would've liked a red wine sauce or maybe mushrooms- it was a bit plain but decent. The soup needed more cheese. The service was excellent especially considering they're going up and down stairs. They have a bathroom on the roof too which was convenient.

Brittney N.

Yelp
Amazing service! Great espresso martinis:). Super friendly and accommodating to a group of 15! Bachelorette Party Fun :).

Allen M.

Yelp
This place is one of the places that you go to when you need to go to a place where you can go if you need a place to go to. You can also go here to have any burger or fries that you like. You can order a drink too or order to have more food to eat. If you're able to order the crabs linden then make sure to order it with extra baker's sauce or at least activate the side menu for Donner's consciousness. Remember, reality is a complete illusion and the front street tavern isn't going to help you ascend to the pristine realm of real mirrors. Thanks everyone!

HELEN A.

Yelp
After a rather unappealing start to its latest manifestation, this restaurant has gotten a subtle but really nice decor upgrade. The staff are outstanding, and -- I'm surprised to be saying this -- I just had the best bowl of French onion soup I've ever had, even in Europe. The stock, which is at the heart of this dish, was superlative. I ordered a second bowl and scarfed it right up!
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is located in Kingston on N. Front St. we were really up for dinner at this hour on the rooftop deck. Drinks were in order, appys and entrees and more drinks. Giles was our server. The appy here is worth noting. "Tavern Eggs", bacon bedeviled eggs. Excellent. The entrees were very good plus. The atmosphere is a definite plus here. Reservations are strongly recommended, since people are slowly branching out into the public. I would rate this a 3+.

Yelp
Kingston has a fun, walkable downtown section with lots of shops to explore. We did this and then stopped at Front Street Tavern for dinner. Lots of good options on the menu but the whole table landed on the pork schnitzel. This was a good choice, with two thin cutlets breaded and topped with a mushroom gravy. The sweet and sour cabbage was an interesting and delicious side. Service was exception with the server and host checking on us several times and engaging in conversation. Very personable.
google avatar

Maeve M.

Yelp
Cute spot with great food and friendly service. What else could you ask for? French onion soup was great, I was impressed. The side of fries was huge and the perfect level of crispy. Tasted even better after doing a nearby hike!
google avatar

Ellen L.

Yelp
When a nearby restaurant foolishly wouldn't let me reserve an outdoor table for our girl's lunch we turned a negative into a positive. We had a fabulous leisurely lunch on the rooftop - even the weather was ideal. The menu was varied, the service was superior, the portions were hefty, and the meals were delicious. I was already a loyal patron and today validated my loyalty.

Yelp
This place is a very popular in Kingston. We called ahead of time to try to make reservation, was told that we won't have any problem to be seated. As we got there they told us only has table as the bar upstairs, we were seated upstairs but the heat lamp was not working and cold outside so they brought us to the bar downstairs. A little unpleasant experience at the beginning. The bartender was super friendly, served both drink and food for us. I had clam chowder for appetizer, my soup was not hot, more colder than warm. Told the waitress, she replaced a new bowl that's perfect. Didn't like the mussel that well, just personal didn't like the Tomato based mussel that overpowered the flavor. Porterhouse is large and perfectly grilled, perfect to share. If you have big appetite you might be able to finish by yourself, I think the meat itself is not 20oz, it's still manageable.

Maia L.

Yelp
Great burgers! Love the roof seating. Waitstaff has been super friendly and accommodating each time we've been there.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Overall I'm pretty happy with Front Street. Especially during the warm months when we can take advantage of their rooftop dining! The food is good. It's not overly imaginative or edgy. But it's GOOD! And pretty consistent. One thing that just blows me away though, is their schnitzel sandwich. It's one of those things (as you may have seen in my other reviews) that threatens to control me every time I walk in the door. I like to try new things, but this schnitzel is so good it's like I'm hypnotized... Anyhoo - try them out! I'm sure you'll be happy with your meal.

Yelp
Never realized there was a back room to this place. We sat in a large dining room in the back and it was nice decor and quiet for a large space. Great waitress who was attentive. Nice local beer selections as well. Deviled eggs as an app were a good choice and the bam bam shrimp were crispy, seasoned perfectly and delicious. I had the schnitzel as my entree which was a nice change from The usual steak or pasta. Served on mashed potatoes and super authentic red cabbage, I was beyond happy. Very filling with large portion as well. Two minor complaints which didn't effect our experience. The back dining room was a bit in the cold side for a winter night but it was about 5pm so I'm guessing the heat was just getting cranked up. Secondly, the floor was super slippery. Not wet but oddly slippery. Maybe it's the flooring or how they mop it but every time I went to push my chair in, my feet slipped. Maybe I just need new shoes. Right in the heart of Uptown Kingston, good location. Off street and on street parking. Check this place out.

Robert H.

Yelp
This restaurant is really great. Casual, fun dining with delicious food, great rooftop bar and great waitstaff. We were there with a big group and they handled it perfectly. Every entree was delicious. Great appetizers, too. Very friendly people here. You'll love it.

Yelp
The Front St section of Kingston, NY is kitschy, quaint, historic, and fun. We wanted to enjoy an early warm spring day there as change of scenery. Between popping into the shops, we enjoyed a late lunch at the Tavern. Downstairs is a cool tavern/pub vibe with character and great bar. We chose to eat upstairs where they have rooftop dining. Lovely to be outside! Waitstaff was so friendly and attentive. Good drinks, food, and setting.

T D.

Yelp
First time trying this restaurant we both had the incredible Kobe beef burgers and the sesame cauliflower appetizer . Creative drinks, large bar area and outdoor dining w/nice views perched up on a fun roof top deck. . Gina was our server and she was very attentive and friendly we definitely plan on returning. Great vibe !
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
First time coming to Kingston and found such a lovely place to have dinner! Great for a casual date night. Our server was great and very friendly! We got the sesame cauliflower bites and the onion rings, both cooked perfectly and very flavorful. For our entrees we chose the chicken sandwich and shrimp pesto. Loved it so much and the portions are very filling!
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
Nice restaurant. Love sitting upstairs outside. Mark's aunt is so delightful and friendly. Feel like you are dining at their home. If you are lucky enough to have JESS wait on you service will be top notch. Love the eggs and the nachos are very good too. Really fun place to go to eat!
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
This was such a great find on a whim and while looking for a bite to eat in the area after picking a random exit. We sat up on the rooftop bar for a late lunch. Even with it being 90 outside it was a comfortable temperature up there. Started with a refreshing unsweetened iced tea paired with the fresh and crispy Brussel sprouts appetizer. The balsamic drizzle was so good! I then had the Mexican bowl. So delicious but the chicken was VERY spicy. Almost too spicy. The flavor was delicious though. Generous portion and very flavorful. The service was friendly but a bit slow. Happy we stopped in!
google avatar

Erick S.

Yelp
Amazing place, amazing food and amazing service... everything on the menu was awesome... pub food with a twist... truffles fries, yuca fries, vegetarian nachos, schnitzel, fish and chips absolutely amazing... I had the prime rib Au jus... by far the best ever... you would think I have stock in the place... and our server Ashley was awesome... go there if your in town.. they own several other places and I am sure the quality is just as good. Can't wait to try them next time in town
google avatar

Giuseppe B.

Yelp
Like all of Frank Guido's restaurants it is mediocre at best. The hosts did not seem to have any idea what was going when it came to seating our party. I will say our waitress was excellent. They try to make more of the food then what you are getting.....sysco's finest. It was an adequate meal, but there are too many places within a few miles that are vastly superior. I will say front street tavern did seem to have something his other restaurants do not have. A large serving of loud mouth, white trash customers. The dress code is Kingston casual, ie, if you are man, and your shirt has sleeves you are over dressed for this place. There are too many options in Kingston that are far better to waste your time and money here.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
I debated, per usual, the merits of writing this one-star review. The breaking point: realizing none of the four plates were edible. Like at all. Flatbread = canned tomato paste and burnt freezer bread. Tuna = almost still frozen and served with chips? Salad = pomegranate seeds were fermenting from time in the kitchen. Gross. And my schnitzel. Oh the schnitzel. My fav food? Possibly? It was chicken? I think. But the gravy was for sure from a can. The mushrooms were about as edible as my rock climbing shoes. And finally, the taters were def in the microwave. Some parts cold, some boiling. Honestly, just bad. The only saving grace: it was so quickly served that we got to leave for Stellas (right down the street) in under 45 mins!!

Maria V.

Yelp
Great casual atmosphere and super friendly staff. Met some family from all over seemed chose the place for convenience and we were pleasantly surprised. Apps were spot on and entrees were very creative but familiar at the same time. You should give this place a try we plan on going back in the nicer weather to check out the rooftop bar!!

Kenny R.

Yelp
My partner and her mom went here and she let me know her steak was disappointing. Is it true you're letting your steak game slip? I had it one time and it was great. It definitely was a hanger steak. Is there a new chef in the house? Is the sourcing different? Was really bummed to hear about her disappointing experience. Consistency is key and you guys got me scared to go back there after that news. She was thinking of writing a review too. I just felt bad for her experience and wanted to let you guys know. Keep on keeping on. UPDATE: Got more info. Shrimp tortilla bowls were fishy smelling and were covered up by chili Mayo to hide smell ($20) Kale undercooked, inedible. Steak was bland not seasoned properly. Mashed potato was "gross". Definitely didn't match the price point. Service was on point (which is why this review is a two star), but not the food. Steering clear of here for a while after getting more details. Such a shame.

Jill L.

Yelp
After a very long day and a lot of travel, this place was exactly what we needed. Super delicious food, definitely try the chicken and waffles and the truffled deviled eggs, and smart, friendly, and fun service. Thank you to Cody our waiter!

Yelp
I got wings and a Philly. Not tooooooooo shabby. It was kind of expensive like I wasn't really ready for that but it's fine I ate it

Kathy R.

Yelp
Ate here today for our wedding anniversary. I had the lobster mac n cheese and the lobster had turned and should not have been used. It tasted fishy (a sign that it should be tossed) and had texture like it had previously been frozen. It was rubbery. A real shame because it ruined an otherwise good mac n cheese. What a waste of $30. I could not eat it, brought it home with intentions to treat my dog, but i dare not risk him getting sick. Yet there were a few positive things, the water was good, the rolls also. And our waitress was attentive and very friendly, but she talked a mile a minute and it was hard to follow what she was saying. Another positive was my husband had the sliced steak, mashed potatoes and kale and that was pretty good. We will not be going back, nor will we recommend to anyone.
google avatar

Charles A.

Yelp
We went with not too large a group. Have been there before and was OK. This time I wish we had gone to the diner. The drinks are too expensive by half. The food, for the price of the entire meal... was unfortunate. Four couples, 9 entrees.... Two meals were completely inedible. ( they were comped). Schnitzel, which is supposed to be tender... way over cooked, had trouble cutting them with a steak knife. The highlight was the shepard's pie. That was the incredible. Desert was mediocre, some of that was burnt too. Wont be going back. Ever. Sorry. I hate writing these kind of reviews and very rarely do. Drop $500 on a meal you expect at least average.
google avatar

Josiah S.

Yelp
Why can't you be great? I'd even be so happy with just good. Been here several times, the place is beautiful and the staff are great. Food and drinks are just not good and way over priced. Bland, plain and seemingly frozen food passed off as fancy. NYC drink prices for bottom shelf liquor and even the iced tea was nearly undrinkable. We have even done take out here and they forgot some items. I'm trying to love you, Front Street! Why won't you let me?!
google avatar

Rob L.

Yelp
This restaurant is fairly new. They did a pretty good job with the Decor and overall it's very nice. Service is really good. A little disappointed about pricing which is definitely overpriced for what you get. For example I ordered a Lobster roll and for the price ( $27.00 ) it was very small roll ... so if you go there just be aware of that
google avatar

Erica L.

Yelp
Phenomenal food. Excellent service! Had The grilled cheese and also the French dip lunch special. Delicious! Ambience is great too
google avatar

Chichi W.

Yelp
We came to the Tavern without a reservation. The tables were already seated, so we took a space at the bar. All of the seating was responsible Co-Vid-wise. Cocktails were great, decent beer selection. Chicken wings were top notch. The beer I wanted had kicked at the rooftop bar, so our amazing bartender dutifully trekked downstairs every round to get me another until they reloaded the keg. Thanks Aubrey! Came for drinks and snacks, and were quite pleased. Can't wait to come back for a proper meal!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Came for lunch. Good selection of regional beers. Lovely roof deck. I had the beet salad (that was a bit beet dominant but good) and the deviled eggs. My husband had the Kobe beef burger. It was a solid choice and had a nice handmade look.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
We had a fabulous meal at the Front Street Tavern. The cocktails are creative, the food comes out piping hot and both are delicious. The service is friendly and attentive. We had the poutine appetizer, Cobb salad, chicken and waffles and chicken parmigiana. You can't go wrong with either. I'm excited to visit the Front Street Tavern again!
google avatar

Dee G.

Yelp
Food was delicious and the service even better. Maybe a little pricey, but for a special occasion, it's great. Really, really good burger. Looking forward to returning

Yelp
Had a great Birthday dinner up on the terrace. Stephanie the waitress was great. Had the Nachos, Lobster Mac and Cheese, Sliced steak cooked perfectly. My wife loved the Lavender Lemonade with Vodka(3 of them). Walking out everybody thanked us and will definitely come back.

A W.

Yelp
Excellent service, delicious food, awesome drinks! We sat upstairs on the rooftop patio and the atmosphere was so relaxing. Michelle was an awesome server and the owner came by to see how our meal was. Wonderful experience.

Yelp
We had lunch at Front Street Tavern on 4/23. This was an entirely disappointing meal. One party had the lobster mac and cheese. It was very bland with a minuscule amount of lobster. The other party had the lobster ravioli with the same results...no discernible taste of lobster. The sauce was also quite bland. No bread offered, only a cup of grated cheese. One dish was $19.95, the other $17.95. We both felt this was a truly uninspired meal and way too much in cost for the quality of food. Wait staff was acceptable but would not recommend and would not return.
