Fufu Nara (Nara, Nara Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Planted just where the city of Nara gives way to the ancient woodlands of Nara Park, Fufu Nara preserves the exquisite balance between the divine and the natural that has drawn pilgrims and tourists to the area for more than a millennium. The décor marries inky, ageworn wood with sea tones under the gentle flicker of lanterns — hallmarks of the regional azekura style, easing the transition outdoors, where each room enjoys a private hot-spring onsen. It’s a great spot to end up after scaling a sacred mountain or two, or even a simple hike, and it’s made all the better by the addition of traditional herbal treatments." - Tablet Hotels

This got to be one of the best rappers i had ever been to, (besides a few really high end resort in Bali). This resort service is impeccable. The kaiseki dinner is really delicious. The Garden is so well curated that it can compete with some of the shrine garden. And last but not least the onsen is truly relaxing and beautiful. One tip, is it place the herbal pack into the onsen early. It takes 6 hours for it to fully diffuse into the onsen.

Savor time at Fufu and soak in private onsen.|We would go back....what we loved: |The overall design, vibe, shift from the noise of the world to the quiet luxurious (dare i say simple) delights ||Bathing in your own private hotspring bath, walking through a small bamboo forrest & garden to the restaurant each morning and evening, the smell of the wood, the just right incense, the beauty, the quailty of product from linens to food quaility.||Onsen private purpose bathtub outside on balcony as part of our Large corner room. (4 of this room type). Traditional clothing provided for guests to wear to the restaurant if you wish including the special socks and clog like shoes...we wore those once and our own shoes but loved the attire...warm, comfortable and sort of an elegant equalizer of guests. All part of the quieting....the softening...nourishing and recharging.....Fufu aims to restore, quiet the mind and body, while delighting it with subtle joys from the incense in the lobby to the food and little touches in the room. Appreciated very high quality skin and bathroom products in large eco friendly bottles. Bought some wonderful items in their store - well priced. Wish we had bought more of their 15 herb herbal tea that they serve in the restaurant.|When you go to the restaurant, you can walk through the garden - another way of shifting you and setting the tone...or you can be driven...is short but if raining....they do provide lovely pinkish plum umbrellas.|Oh and the location...edge of park, close to a beautiful shrine and yet away from the tour bus crowds|They were accommodating to my vegan needs though sometimes think they had a challenge to not have any fish dashi...but they tried.|Complimentary drinks en in room treat|Room 215 too close to road noise. If door open. Have your google translate handy as depends on who is helping you....sumimasen my Japanese is so little.|Please more vegan options without daishi.|Highly Recommend! Would like to visit another Fufu property. Thank you everyone!

Beautiful ryokan with in-room onsen. The Japanese garden separating the residence and the restaurant is nicely done - it is small and somewhat hilly at parts, perfect for a nice scroll before dinner or after breakfast. Nara park is literally across the street - great for interacting with deer and heading to the Kasuga Taisha KoKuhoden, a recently refreshed shrine with lots of bells. ||The rooms are spacious with separate sitting area and outdoor lounge where you see the mini bamboo forest. Comfortable beds. The ryokan has many English speaking staff though I feel that it might be a bit short staffed for a place that aims to deliver a premium / 5-star experience. ||The reason I didn't give the 5-star is that the food is a bit disappointing. Breakfast was fine, but the dinner was a bit underwhelming for a ryokan that charges JPY150000 per night. But I am probably spoiled.

I visited this restaurant in Japan and, unfortunately, left feeling quite disappointed. As a foreign guest, it was hard not to feel unwelcome. While the staff maintained polite smiles, it came across as forced rather than genuine hospitality. One major issue was how they prioritized Japanese customers over others. Even though I arrived earlier, they seated local guests who came after me. Without a reservation, it seems foreign customers are not given fair treatment — something that felt discriminatory. This was not about language barriers or cultural misunderstandings. It was about the overall vibe: courteous on the surface, but lacking warmth or equality in service. I don’t expect special treatment as a tourist, but basic fairness would have gone a long way. If you’re not Japanese and don’t have a reservation, I’d recommend choosing another place where service is more balanced and inclusive.

This is our 2nd stay within the Fufu chain. We had a great impression of our first stay (Fufu Hakone) and decided to give Fufu Nara a try. It was a Splendid stay again. We stayed in the Stylish Room with Half board meal option. Meals were exquisite, probably the best meal we had in 2025. We opted for Kaiseki dinner for one night and Teppanyaki for the other.

Fufu Nara is a high-end luxury hotel and I enjoyed my stay with my m wife for our 24th wedding anniversary. Service was hearty and our Teppanyaki dinner was greeted with a dessert marking our memorable day!

The hotel design both interior and public area is very impressive and I love every scent the hotel has given us. The subtle wood smell in side the room is very adorable. The private semi outdoor area also allows sunlight & greenery. However, I prefer to have bath towel hooks for convenience. Also TV better to include Netflix and is not so user friendly. We have to seek staff to come to our room to fix the TV just to turn back to main page. Regarding the service, generally staff are super friendly and polite. However no help was given when we off load our 3 heavy luggage’s when we both arrived and left. Prefer to help us to carry into our car. One little good part is hotel offers sutra writing service which I appreciate a lot. Very zen.

This is truly one of the best stays I’ve ever been on… everything about the resort was above and beyond. The room was stunning and so comfortable. In fact, we loved the attention to detail and the incredible design products that were available in the room. The best part of the interiors were the lighting placements which highlight the beauty of the space. The staff are also very warm and friendly and we were able to have conversations in Japanese, mandarin and English which was really interesting and fun. The bamboo garden was exceptional and the journey to breakfast and dinner was always an amazing one. Definitely staying at Fufu again!
