Fufu Nikko (Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The city of Nikko is a place of much religious and historical significance, and close to Tokyo to boot; an auspicious setting for one of Japan’s most highly regarded luxury boutique hoteliers. Fufu Nikko enjoys close proximity to numerous cultural sites, and also benefits from the deep immersion in nature that is a Fufu trademark. Rooms are modern both in design and in function, though they also contain timeless comforts like private hot-spring baths. There’s a public bathing complex as well, with a supremely restful forest view; Setchu, the restaurant, serves a heady mix of Japanese and European dishes." - Tablet Hotels

We had an amazing 3 night stay at Fufu Nikko. We had booked the Stylish Suite Room, and they were on the first floor, which actually may have been more preferred for us due to easy access. It is a small, intimate property, so the public onsen experience was always peaceful - as there were never any other guests there at the same time. The layout of the dining area was beautiful, and designed in such a unique way to make you feel like you were the most important and only guest in the property. Location was great - walking distance to botanical garden and imperial villa, and 3-5 min drive to the national park world heritage shrines. It's right on the main road for easy access to go west to Lake Chuzenji. Meals were amazing. They did take about 2 hours for dinners (with earliest start time at 18:00), so be prepared if you have children or elderly. The best part of the experience in my opinion was not necessarily the hard product of the property, but more so how attentive the staff were to us when we asked to change our meal times / type probably 3-4 times. I felt so bad we had to do this because to accommodate for our kids and grandparents, but they were so gracious with how to handled each request and always made it work out. They allowed our children to have their meals delivered to the room because the kaiseki meals were too long for them, allowed us to change one meal to a teppanyaki because our grandparents asked, and even still prepared an extra set of kaiseki courses when one grandparent couldn't eat. I really appreciated them for that. Thank you to an amazing staff for making our stay very personal and memorable - and my apologies again for the trouble with all those requests!

We stayed here for our honeymoon and truly did not want to leave. From the moment we arrived, exhausted after a long day of travel, we were welcomed with tea and the warmest service. The staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which immediately made us feel at home. Everything about our experience was exceptional: the staff, the food, the rooms, and the location. We stayed in the Luxury Corner Suite, and it was absolutely worth it to have our own private onsen. The room was stunning, with breathtaking views and spotless cleanliness when we arrived. The photos online really don’t do it justice. The hotel is less than 25 minutes from the lake and downtown, and the bus stop is conveniently located right outside the hotel, making it incredibly easy to get around. It’s a perfect location for exploring during the day and relaxing at night. They also provide comfortable lounge clothes, which we wore throughout our stay, so there’s no need to pack much unless you plan to spend time in town. The food was incredible. We were blown away by every meal. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and very filling. We tried every style of cuisine they offered and had so much fun discovering new flavors. Overall, this was the most relaxing, easy, and enjoyable way to unwind after our wedding. We are so grateful to the staff for their kindness and hospitality. We highly recommend staying here and would return in a heartbeat. Thank you so much, Fufu Nikko!

Unforgettable Luxury, Heartfelt Hospitality – A True Gem in Nikko FUFU Nikko is what every luxury resort should aspire to be. Nestled in a fairytale forest landscape, it combines refined architecture, exquisite service, and thoughtful details into a stay that feels both indulgent and deeply personal. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed not just as guests, but as honored individuals. The staff—gracious, attentive, and full of quiet warmth—made our visit feel like a celebration. They assumed we were on our honeymoon and surprised us with a stunning flower arrangement and a congratulatory dessert, complete with a personalized message and beautiful presentation. They took commemorative photos for us, too—a gesture that was as unexpected as it was meaningful. Our room was beautiful and serene, with a private onsen overlooking the tranquil forest. It was a space designed for relaxation and reflection—natural materials, elegant lighting, and complete privacy. Every moment we spent in that room felt like a retreat from the world. The culinary experience was equally exceptional. The multi-course kaiseki dinners were masterpieces—delicate, seasonal, and artistically presented, with flavors that told the story of the region. Breakfast was also a quiet joy, thoughtfully curated and beautifully served. What made this experience truly unforgettable, however, was the team. The entire staff was outstanding, but we want to give special thanks to Yurie Honda, whose sincerity, attentiveness, and warmth elevated our experience even further. She made us feel truly seen and cared for—from thoughtful surprises to ensuring a seamless departure, including personally escorting us to the train station when we left. FUFU Nikko is more than a resort—it’s a sanctuary. Despite its premium price, it feels like a gift to yourself and your loved ones. We will absolutely return, and recommend it to anyone looking for an extraordinary, soul-restoring experience in Japan.

This was our first Fufu experience and wow what a way to start. Everything here is impeccable, from the moment you we arrived at the carpark, you'd instantly know that you are in good hands. Every single staff was lovely to interact with, service was personable and extremely proactive and attentive. Food was great and the drinks selection was decent - they offered an agreeable champagne for free drink happy hour and if you want something nicer, a lot of good wines were available at extremely reasonable prices. The hotel had a feeling of a luxury safari tent or of the best of Amans. It is everything that a luxury hotel/ryokan could and should be. Even the other guests were all courteous, polite and friendly. We were constantly surprised by all the small gestures and stuff that the staff prepared for us. We won’t go into too much detail as we don’t want to spoil it for you, but if you were to visit Japan, you must make a detour to visit Fufu Nikko. It’s just THAT good. It's better than any hotels in Japan (even the Amans, and we consider ourselves Amanjunkies).||Room: We stayed at the lowest room category Stylish Suite. We were perfectly happy with it. We feel that rooms on the first floors offer easiest accessibility. We would likely be staying for 3 nights for our next visit, as Nikko has so much to offer and is the highlight of our trip.

The service is incredible and the meals are great! The lounge and the room are really comfy, good music as well. Even though the typhoon is nearby and it rained heavily the day I stayed, there is no regret at all. Really good experience, and looking forward to coming back again and maybe try another ふふ :)

I loved the level of professionalism and courtesy provided by the staff. From start to finish, I felt like royalty. I also loved the suite itself and the open air bath attached to it. The only thing I didn’t like was the apparent stain on one of the sofas and the spillage stain under one of the chairs on the balcony. It kind of spoiled the pristine image, but I loved the food - the taste and the way it was presented and explained.

Fufu Nikko exceeded our expectations. Put simply — if you are considering staying here vs other premium-level ryokan in the greater Tokyo area, don't hesitate to book. The service is attentive and focused. The food is impeccably prepared. The beds are ludicrously comfortable.||After much overthinking, my wife and I booked 3 nights in a base-level 'Stylish Suite' and were extremely satisfied with the choice. The room included two queen-sized beds outfitted with the most comfortable set of pillows I've yet to experience in a hotel setting.||Meals were large, creative and included several thoughtful touches. Every evening felt like a Michelin-star experience. Breakfast is a choice of Japnese or Western style. We tried both and preferred Japanese. But the Western breakfast has a couple fun plot twists that elevated it beyond the expected.||On top of this — Nikko itself is a perfect setting for a couple's trip, or weekend with the family. The property is just a 1/2 mile walk away from Nikko's historic complex of Shrines and Temples that could easily consume two days of a visitor's time.||I didn't even get started on the onsen water, or how amazing the local springs are. Nikko is a beautiful place and we can't wait to stay here again.
