The museum is rich in history, offering a fantastic experience. Unfortunately, it is not easily accessible by public transport, and visitors should be prepared for a long walk to the site.

I personally thought it was better than the Kyushu national museum. More artifacts but less English translation. There are barcodes to scan for audio guides for your phone. Well worth the price and easy to get to by but from Hakata station. They Just happened to have my wife's family tree.

Very detailed and big museum. Lots of exhibits about the city's history and such.

¥200 entrance fee for the two regular exhibitions. Informative and diverse exhibits that narrated the story of Fukuoka. Quite interesting to learn about the history of the land. Could easily spend 1 hour here. Plenty of parking space, all free.

Stunning architecture and excellent exhibitions inside. The permanent exhibition effectively narrates Fukuoka’s history of sea trading and is very interactive. Spending 60 to 90 minutes here is quite enjoyable!

This museum had a very interesting and dynamic exhibition of the history of the area. The exhibitions were in different kinds of art, puppet, wood, paper, etc really worth watching. Later there is an exhibition of the different traditions and festivals that is incredible, especially the carriages from the summer festival. It was a wonderful experience!

Google
¥200 will get you access to the permanent exhibit with tons of knowledge and culture. Loved it. I wouldn't come all the way to this area for the museum but if you're planning on going to the zoo or the Fukuoka tower, then this might be worth your time

Yelp
We spent a rainy morning in the Fukuoka Museum. The admission was only 200 yen pp, a deal compared to other museums on this trip. It could have been cheaper if we showed the all day subway pass (didn't buy one that day since the museum was closer to a bus stop). There were two main rooms. The first was the permanent exhibit and was well organized covering the dawn of Fukuoka until the present. A handy online audio guide (in multiple languages) was accessible via a QR code and contained a good summary. However we wished there was a bit more details in English for the rest of the displays or for the second exhibition area. The second exhibition included in the regular admission was an assorted collection of items from the everyday as well as historical. It can be skipped if pressed for time.

Yelp
One of the collections is the gold seal (national treasure) that was given by an ancient Chinese government. Must see item in Fukuoka. If you have an extra time, I recommend the cafe located in the second floor. Their offerings are delicious and very reasonable. http://museum.city.fukuoka.jp/gold/index.html
