I pored over many hotels ahead of my trip to Charleston and chose the Fulton Lane Inn because 1) it was located in the historic district and close the things I wanted to do, 2) it was within my budget, and 3) I was looking for something that reflected Charleston charm, and not a hotel room that could be anywhere else in the world.|I knew I had chosen well as soon as I walked into our room. I loved the high, four-poster bed with crocheted canopy, plantation shutters covering windows that looked out on the city, BUT, a nice modern bathroom (that one I needed to be functional rather than quaint).|Room is comfortable, front desk service was wonderful (on a rainy day, they supplied us with umbrellas! they made restaurant recommendations AND reservations). Breakfast was delivered to our room within the time frame we requested. Yes, it was "only" continental, but you can get good, hot oatmeal, and you can have breakfast in your PJs. Honestly, if you are visiting Charleston, there is so much food culture you need to save your calories for she-crab soup and shrimp and grits anyway.|Happy Hour is in the sister King Street Inn next door. They serve white/red wine of the day, and delicious snacks. After 630pm, the lobby has sherry service.|If you are like me, you may try to find the front facade on googlemaps street view and be concerned that all you see is an alleyway. Never fear, the hotel entrance IS down that alley, right next to the gaslamp that is always on. If you are arriving late, call ahead. The door is locked after a certain time, but there is someone at the front desk 24/7 to let you in.|We walked everywhere- City Market, Liberty Square ( to catch ferry to Fort Sumter), Rainbow Row, Historical houses, restaurants (Fav: Magnolia's, Fleets Landing, and Poogan's Porch), and lots and lots of shopping.|I loved it. Thank you Fulton Lane Inn, for giving me my Charleston experience.
