Shikoku Island Is Hiding Some of Japan's Best Hot Springs

"This centrally located spa in Ehime Prefecture features multiple onsens, a Zen garden, and a sauna. Traditional Japanese rooms with futon beds and tatami mats are available, as well as Western-style rooms. The onsen is conveniently located near the Dogo-Onsen Train Station." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The room is much bigger than the regular Japanese hotel. Service is good, although most of them don’t understand English, but they try really hard to understand what I said. The food I need to say is extremely good. After two days I already feel I am much fatter than before. Also there is a very good hot spring inside.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ OMG! Our stay at 道後温泉 ふなや was nothing short of magical! The stunning Japanese garden, with its peaceful koi ponds, was the perfect escape, and the service is absolutely flawless. We’ve stayed at many top-tier ryokans, but this one still managed to wow us. The food? Simply divine - every dish perfectly presented and bursting with flavor. A dream experience we’ll never forget!

Great location with super comfortable public hot spring; great service, nice dinner/breakfast and beautiful garden, highly recommended. You can also reserve in-room massage

We stayed 2 nights at the Funaya and that has been our best hotel experience during our 2-week stay in Japan. Sometime difficult to discuss in English, but the staff is quite committed to quality of service and personal attention to customers. The restaurant is also great: we did enjoy excellent japanese dinners and western style breakfasts.

This was an amazing stay! The staff was all very accommodating and made me feel like a king! Rooms were very nice and had everything I wanted or needed. It was really easy to schedule a massage and I had a great deep tissue for an affordable price in my room. The Onsen was convenient and had a nice outdoor option and sauna as well. The gardens were easily accessible and made for a great morning stroll. It’s also very close to Dogo onsen main building and to local temples. The lobby has a small cafe that has good coffee and an absolutely delicious tart

Well run ryokan near dogo onsen station. Had a comfortable stay in a Japanese-Western bedded room. Kaiseki dinner was excellent with exquisite dishes. Hotel has an indoor and outdoor onsen. One with stone baths and the other with hinoki wood. Baths are rotated between genders. Grounds contain a manicured garden that is worth checking out in its own. There’s a foot bath in the garden. Hotel has many common rest areas outside the onsen and in the lobby with massage chairs. There’s a cafe in a lobby that serves coffee too. Parking is by valet for a charge. Hotel is within walking distance to the dogo onsen and the shopping street. Hotel will provide soap and the necessary for the onsen. All in a very nice place

Of all the many lodging options on this trip, this one is the best. It scores highest marks in every category, from location to meals to service. It is near a busy shopping arcade. Just down the incline is a foot bath next to a mechanical clock which has moving parts on the hour. Many people stood around it to view the action. The arcade is interesting too. I bought a bag of clementines -- very sweet, 400yen/KG.|The onsen is so relaxing and no one there except for a father and young son.|We were in room # 1503 in an annex connected to the main building by a long corridor. No English television channels, huge balcony with view, and 2 Western-style twin beds. |Dinner was in a private structure next to the river -- Kawaseki. Getting down there from the ryokan was not smooth. We had total privacy. The food was brought down by large bento boxes filled with seafood, soup, side dishes. So delicious. |The newspaper is delivered to the room. The breakfast was just as wonderful as the dinner. |Too bad we stayed only one night. This is the only lodging I wish we could have stayed longer.

It was such an attractive ryokan. The staff were very kind, and the onsen in the ryokan was very clean. The onsen was good because it was available until 11 p.m. Above all, the garden where I could take a walk in the evening was so beautiful. Lastly, I recommend you try dinner. I was able to taste different kinds of good dishes while staying at ryokan for two days. The breakfast was also very good.
