The hotel itself is very unusual and beautiful. It appears to be kept up well and built with uniqueness in mind. There is a great shop that sells some hiking gear and swim/spa clothing essentials and a restaurant with good food. The room themselves, however, were just gross. Our room had torn and filthy carpeting, a dark and dank bathroom with a tiny shower and gross jacuzzi bathtub and a floor that sloped downhill so throughout the night one can wakeup halfway down the mattress. The peaceful evenings are accompanied by a cacophony of flushing toilets, footsteps pounding feet and music until 4 am.

We visited over Christmas with my retired parents and 3 children (17,11,4). I can honestly say this was a spectacular choice and every single person in my difficult to please family fell in love with the hotel and it’s surroundings. Staff were unfailingly friendly, accommodating, welcoming. Food was excellent. Activity bookings were easy and reasonable. Plus the hotel itself is out of a fairy tale, totally unique and special. You won’t find any place in the world quite like it. Nearly a month later and I am still dreaming about our visit.

We travelled from the US and UK (grand kids and parents) to this out of way, but beautiful place. The resort is very accommodating and a relaxed atmosphere. Instead of renting a car for 7 people we opted for the resort provided round trip from the Vadivia Airport taking 2.5 hours each way. Not cheap but without stress.|Upon arrival a smooth checkin with accommodation set up at the lodge. We opted for the meal plan (two selected meals from BF, Lunch or Dinner) which makes the vacation more relaxed. No cooking or trying to find a restaurants. BF is buffet style while Dinner choice is meat, fish or vegetarian selection. Wine in Chile is inexpensive and never exceeded US$ 30 for the most expensive bottle available.|The selection of 'activities' such as water rafting, zip line or just hiking is made easy with a tour desk right at the hotel. All the guides could converse in English.|There were many trail for hiking available from short 1 hour to 6 hour treks after which you could cool off in the river or in the hotel pool.|All in all we would not mind to go back. Too bad it takes about 48 hours to get there from NY to Santiago Chile and then onward to Valdivia.

The architecture of the hotels is beautiful and the people who work there are very respectful and kind. However, the design of our room was far from comfortable. To start with, the whole room was leaned towards the balcony, which makes it hard to sleep since you have to put a pillow to stop you from rolling over. The bed had only one night table and a night lamp for whatever reason. The room had no kettle or ironing table. The bathroom was small and with little attention to details. The heating of the room was horrible, it varied from hot knocking you down temperature to freezing cold. The swimming pool was nippy but not hot. The food was simple and just ok. The surrounding area is marvelous.

The decorations and furnishing inside are almost completely made from wood. The ambience is great. We stayed at the Reino Fungi and it feels new but the lobby of Magic Mountain looks a bit shabby and old. ||||We enjoyed the spa which has steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and warm/cool pool. We thought the service could be a little better. For example, we booked the room with an extra bed, which wasn't set up when we checked in. Also the breakfast started only after 8, which was inconvenient for us as we needed to drive to Valdivia to catch our flight.

Our stay was part of an organized trip so we was not involved in choosing the lodge. It was chosen for its unusual design and interesting history we were told. We were fascinated with the public areas, but they needed more maintenance. That is a challenge. Unfortunately, we were unhappy with the condition of our lodge room.. We were located in the "mushroom" wing where we found the bathroom extremely small, the shower w/o a dish for soap placement, poorly draining shower and the door to the outside "porch/fire escape ladder" would not lock let alone even stay closed! We called the desk about the door, but did not get any resolution to the issue. My husband placed his suitcase next to the door to prevent it from swinging open. We were there for only one night and the food was good in the dining room, but I was glad we were only staying for one night.

We have visited Huilo Huilo since our honeymoon in 2009. This time, we had the worst experience so far. Basically, personnel is not committed with the good service as they used to do. We do not refer to all employees as some do an excellent work. However, others provide poor service and show few commitment with their work. Our comments come from different issues we experienced in 4 days only. We expect this change as this is one of the best touristic destinies in Southern Chile.
