Funken Lodge

We spent three nights here and everything was perfect. The hotel is beautiful, the location is great—just a few minutes’ walk from dark skies for Northern Lights photos—and the service is outstanding. Every day we booked activities, and the staff always picked us up and brought us back. All activities were fantastic, except the snowcat tour, which felt more suited for an older audience. Delicious food, excellent cocktails, and top-notch breakfast made our stay unforgettable. If you’re visiting Svalbard, Funken Lodge is the place to stay!

Nice rooms. Very friendly staff and very tasty breakfast included. The hotel was extremely clean. A short walk up a hill from the centre but not too far even in the snow.

The room was good, comfortable, with good blackout curtains. Service was excellent. What let it down was the restaurant meal. We had a group booked meal, so didn't have a choice. The entrecote de boeuf was badly cooked, too tough and gristly. One of the waiters smirked when he saw the food left on the plates, suggesting he knew it was poor. A 5* hotel should be able to do better. Breakfast and lunch were ok, but not remarkable.

Great breakfast and the view from the restaurant is amazing. Walking distance to the centre is about 10 min downhill. Everyone was so helpful and service minded. The three star comes from the sauna and gym being closed off for renovation. It was not communicated when we booked and since it was one of the reasons we picked the hotell it felt a bit disappointing. But hey what to do, all in all we had a lovely time

We had an amazing stay at Funken Lodge! We were there in September 2024 and spent 4 nights. The rooms were comfortable, food excellent, and staff very friendly. The walk downtown is only about 10-15 minutes and very doable. Would definitely stay again should we be back.

A surprisingly beautiful hotel. Amazing furnishings in the lobby bar and restaurant. Very cosy feel with different areas set up in the space. Room was fabulous. Light and spacious. An amazing view and a really comfy bed Staff were all lovely, and made you feel welcome and at home.

Rooms are small, but nicely appointed. The breakfast buffet is absolutely fabulous with incredible choices and a lovely waitress, Minnie. The staff are all quite friendly but the manager, however, who is not Norwegian, as he spoke English with the staff, was not receptive to improvements that should be made with the poor organization of the “slipper room “. Over the few days of our stay, there was confusion with several guests taking other guests slippers, often personal slippers brought from home. The pub food is very average and tasteless which is quite surprising as the restaurant has a good reputation. The lobster mac & cheese, and the chicken Caesar salad were bland.

This was my third stay at the Funkenlodge. The staff, rooms and breakfast are continually top notch. The gym was also a selling point for me and the walk into town enjoyable
