Harburg the city is not featured on the Romantic Road, but the castle is just off of it. It is about 20 minutes south of Nordlingen. Some castles are turned into 5 star hotels, this was not one of them, but it was still a treat to stay in a castle for 1 night. It has only a few rooms so the waitress and barmaid for the restaurant at the entrance served as the check in desk. Stairs and hallways creaked when walked upon. Walls between rooms did not stop conversations. Bathroom was adequate and in room. We did have a great view of the castle garden and courtyard, and we were staying in a castle. The room also included breakfast which was enjoyable (boiled eggs, yogurt, bread, cold cuts, fruit, and salmon). The next morning we paid an extra 4 euros for the castle tour in English. It was a very good tour and we saw that there was more to it than what we could see from the outside. Highly recommend staying here and taking the tour.

This is a hotel in an old castle. It's very cool. The room was sufficiently modern, with good heat and good hot water with a shower. The wi-fi was solid. The castle itself was mostly closed to tourism, but I was able to walk around the castle grounds, both inside and outside the walls, and explore a bit. The room was not perfect. The bed was comfy enough, but it did creak a lot. It did not have AC, but I stayed in the winter. Maybe this means I should take away a star, but it exceeded my expectations for comfort. If you want more luxuries, I suggest you don't stay in a ~900 year old castle. The proprietor was a great host. Upon check-in, she asked what time I wanted breakfast (there were not many guests, due to the season). The next morning, I went down to find a great spread of meat, cheese, bread, and juice waiting for me. I also had a billing mix-up (I booked on booking.com and got charged both there and at checkout by mistake) and they were quick to respond and correct it.

My wife and I stayed here four nights in May, 2018. We reserved the only room in the castle tower. The room was actually divided into two parts: a sitting area with a desk and candelabra, a chest of drawers with a t.v. on top and a bathroom. The bedroom was located in the tower part of the room down 5 steps and light was provided by a chandelier. One window in the sitting area and two in the tower bedroom provided light and a view of the castle entrance and he surrounding rolling hills. The bathroom was quite small but definitely functional. Breakfast is included in the room price and was excellent. The castle hotel serves fine meals at reasonable prices and outside tables are available in good weather. The castle tour was very interesting but is only conducted in German which was no problem for me as I was a student in Germany many years ago. The very gracious castle-hotel managers, Daniela and Rainer, did everything possible to make our stay absolutely wonderful and they do speak English. The castle is located on the Romantische Strasse (Romantic Road) and we were easily able to visit the medieval walled cities of Nordlingen and Dinkelsbuhl and the very pretty town of Donauworth where the Wornitz River flows into the Danube. I booked the tower room 9 months in advance but there are eight other rooms available. Please be aware that you may find that you are the only Americans to be staying in this hotel.

We arrived for a night here. We were met by a rather curt man, welcome was cool. We were shown to our room which was a family room which held 6 people!! I had inadvertently reserved this room, the room was incredibly dark, not a glimpse of sunshine getting in. It was very cold. We had to ask for heaters in the room, which were given but we were asked to unplug later. There was no complimentary water not even one bottle.|There was a lovely sun-filled room at top of stairs which I feel should have been offered to us, as we were only two, it wouldn’t have needed heaters and it was unoccupied! Such was the manner of the manager/ proprietor.|We had a reasonably nice meal in the lovely dining area. However we asked for a jug of tap water to bring to room & the Frau of the house she only had bottles water ata charge of course. It is actually a right for every guest to. E given water, at least one bottle.|WiFi drop out all the time.|I would not return here.|The tour of the castle itself is well worth’s doing and very interesting.

Park Suite - Room 5. Very spacious suite with a modern bathroom. Light and airy and very comfortable. Couldn't pass up the chance to stay in this castle. Parking was a bit confusing as the sign says vehicles are forbidden and you are directed up the road to a public car park. In fact if you are a guest you can park in the castle courtyard. A short but steep walk takes you into the village below with good dining options although the castle itself does have a restaurant. My only criticism is the plague of wasps in the breakfast room.

This is a really neat place to spend a night. I recommend arriving early and taking a tour. The hotel and restaurant are in only one part of the Castle. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and since we were the only people on our tour we were able to get a personal experience. They will do the tour in the language (German or English) of the majority. We ate dinner at the Castle and we were very happy with our meals. There is an option to go into town for dinner if you prefer. At night it's very quiet. The Castle sits above the town, next to a sheep farm. The farm is close enough to be picturesque, but far enough that you do not smell it. We had to leave before breakfast to keep an appointment. The staff was very accommodating to our early departure.

A wonderful stay in this ancient landmark hotel and fortress complex. Room was basic but had charm. Dinner was EXCELLENT across all four of us (curry wurst, Turkey and gravy, beef salad, pork dish). And the fortress walking tour was a lot of fun.

We had lunch here while waiting for a guided tour of the castle and decided to stay over. It is not the most modern but it is a castle and the rooms are comfortable. There is no WiFi but if you have a laptop you can get a connection. If you want modern decor etc. It's not for you but if you want a great experience in an authentic setting then look no further! As the evening sun catches the tiled turrets and all the visitors have gone you can imagine yourself in your own fairytale. The food is very good too! Friendly staff and great value.
