Gaasbeek Castle

Very beautiful castle. Nice and interesting blend of the older history of the castle as well as some of the more modern era. Some very interesting artifacts and art exhibited as well as some interesting reproductions. Though you can see a very large part of the castle, I wish you could visit the middle and right hand section. The upstairs floors and attic can use a bit of a fan/cool airflow and I wish there was some explanation to some of the pieces and artwork. But overall, highly recommended to visit, on foot or even by bike. Leave ample time to visit the grounds around the castle

Loved visiting here this week, definitely worth going if you're in the area. The tapestries alone are magnificent. It's worth noting that once you've parked up, the castle is a 10/15 minute walk away (but it's not a strenuous walk at all, it's a pleasant stroll through some trees on a wide solid path that would be no problem for pushchairs/wheelchairs). The staff were very friendly and the guidebook (available in different languages) was written in the style of someone telling the story of their experiences there which I loved.

An absolute gem hidden in a forested area of Flemish countryside. A must see that we enjoyed visiting. The castle and the surroundings (the forest, the gardens) are surprinsingly spectacular. Take the time to pay a visit and you won't regret it. It's also a very family friendly location

800-old historic castle worth of visiting….. highly recommended for weekends… also the surrounding greenery with the big lakes are also eye-soothing….

We arrived at the castle too late for a tour as the last tickets are sold an hour before closing. But walking the trails on the property was simply magical. We hope to see the inside if we ever are in the area again.

You can park your car in the parking which is quite spacious. If you want to visit the castle and the castle garden you need to buy your ticket at the shop/reception building. You won’t be able to buy tickets at the castle itself or at the garden. You walk through a park for a few hundreds of meter (600-700?). At first you come across the stable and a pavilion at your left side. Further, you’ll have the gardens at your right side where a collection of herbs, flowers and trees are to be seen. You will also have a great view of the castle from there. Further you have the castle and a café. The castle and the art collection are great though lots of pieces are from unknown artists. There are screens in some areas where you get more information about the history of the castle and its last owner. As a habit I would prefer some explanation on a card next to the objects. Especially the ones from great artists. Or an audio guide. The visit of the castle itself took us almost 1,5 hours. We enjoyed a drink in the café afterwards and walked back to the car via the park. We will definitely go back there again.

We were just planning for a walk inside the park and saw this beautiful castle which is now re-opened for public. The last time we were in the park, it was closed under the restoration. We didn't know that in order to visit inside the castle we needed to buy the tickets first at the entrance of the park. And we don't really feel like walking back to the entrance to get the tickets, (Don't understand why they don't have a ticket selling office just outside the castle entrance instead?) So we just visit this beautiful well kept garden this time, which is free, And afterwards have the coffee at the coffe shop. Staff are very kind and helpful. Highly recommended!

Fun castle some good historical facts, was a bit on the busy side when we visited.

We had a great time visiting the castle and having a nice walk in the surroundings. I don't know if it's permanent but when we visited, there were really cool and entertaining "animations" in the castle. Some rooms were decorated based on themes from the former owners lives... there are also some things you can participate to and some "actors" make the whole thing alive. Very original, I loved it even if some stuff were not really my style. I had never have such an original visit. I recommend it.
