Yelp
Serious, serious romantic or just great getaway destination in the middle of nowhere in south Central Texas. No, I mean REALLY serious, and really a long way from everything. I adore this place. How good is it? I live near Kansas City and I'm thinking of flying myself and my wife down just to spend a couple of days in the company of the folks that run this remarkable establishment.
Why?
The rooms are decorated tastefully in old-time cowboy decor. Not the kitschy, too cute type, but the kind that makes you go, "oh wow, this is really well done." The beds are comfy, the shower is massive and expertly tiled to match the western theme, and even the doors and windows make you think you're in an early 1900s bunkhouse, but with fine amenities and luxuries like, oh, heating and cooling.
The lobby is a proper place to hang and read, watch TV or peruse the historical photos on the wall.
The White Buffalo bar is welcoming, cozy, cool, and has great people serving drinks. One even gave us good hiking tips for Big Bend National Park, the reason we were there.
The restaurant is a real dining destination as well complete with outdoor fireplaces, space heaters and a polite cat that shows up and is apparently adored by all, us included. The food is first-rate, the service the same, and they have a good wine list, one you wouldn't expect in a town that probably holds fewer than 500 people.
Easy to see why this location has been recognized by Texas as a historical destination. Can't wait to return, and I didn't even try out the heated pool, the spa or the outdoor fire pit.
Oh, and at just over $200 for this kind of luxury, a bargain in my opinion.
