Yes the resort is very aged and run down but there is a sense of magic with the wild, over grown gardens and the run down buildings. The staff are typical Balinese - warm, friendly, relaxed. Secret Bay restaurant was delish. Stayed in the largest villa - and was great. Some small updates to bathrooms, lighting (especially at night) and a couple of minor repairs and it will go from 4 to 5 stars for me! Will be glad to return one day

Just wished to make a comment complimenting the kitchen & restaurant staff for a relaxing evening with delicious food the other night. My wife and I enjoyed the squid steak, and our friends enjoyed steamed fish in banana leaves, and a grilled fish. All fresh and tastefully garnished. The fries are quite unique, made from cassava - delicious. The name may be Secret Bay, but we shouldn't keep it a secret.

A very wonderful relaxing and revitalising 10 days. Food and staff were very good.|All in a semi-rural location with very good surf.|Old school Bali.|Excellent value for money.|Only downside is you are 3 hours+ drive from the airport. Well worth it.|We will definitely be back.

Love this beautiful beachside setting. Just a short walk to pristine beaches, and verdent rice padis. Rooms supplied with all you need, staff delightful, breakfast yummy. Do yourself a favour and experience Bali in a timeless setting,

After reading earlier reviews I was quite apprehensive about our stay at Gajah Mina. The location was stunning and more than made up for the many shortcomings of the resort. My husband and I stayed in one of the two honeymoon villas on the headland. The bathroom was seriously out dated but the views were so good we could overlook that. There wasn’t a mozzie net over the bed or screens on the windows which meant we chose to have windows closed and air conditioning on rather than enjoy the sea breeze at night. The food at the restaurant was a little overpriced but quite nice. Service was really, really slow but the smiling waiters made up for that. Patience and an early dinner is the way to go. However, the included breakfast was very poor. The pool was lovely and clean and there was ample shade. A new change room was being built by the pool but there wasn’t a lot of noise. I feel this resort is starting to bounce back and rebuild after COVID. If I stayed again I would probably take a villa near the pool or just come for lunch. As I said earlier the location is stunning but the resort needs to lift its game to match. If you can forgive it’s shortcomings and remember that you are in Bali and away from the crowds of kuta then I would stay here for one or two nights. Bonus for us was that an enormous Asia water monitor strolled past our room one afternoon.

Spectacular place to stay. The views and location are stunning. Great service and staff except a few things left a bit to be desired. One of the restaurant employees was kinda lazy, he brought us a cheesecake to share with only one spoon, when we asked for a second one he walked back into the restaurant and after a few minutes I had to follow him in there at which point he handed over the spooon to me. The rooms are slightly run down but it doesn't negate the location. The rest of the staff were good except on check-in we had to rush off for a while and asked if they could please put our bags in the room (containing all of our money, laptops etc) came back a few hours later with the bags sitting in full view unattended in the reception. It's the little things. Breakfast was great. Dinner on our first night was AMAZING, second night it was shockingly bad... And we ordered the same dishes both nights. Consistency is needed there. Would definitely stay again though.

This place is just breathtaking. From the moment I walked in I was in awe- so tranquil, absolutely stunning gardens, like being in a dream. My villa was a two bed and was massive and just stunning- the outdoor private garden area was Huge. People were quiet and relaxed, the nature walks are Beautiful. The beach is small and rugged so not for sittting near or swimming in- there are a few beaches nearby too which seem lovely- the water is rough but nice volcanic sand, very natural. Would recommend this place to anyone as one of the most beautiful resorts i've ever seen. Beats all 5 star hotels i've been to in terms of the scenery and beauty of the villas etc.

I don’t really like writing bad reviews, but I feel it’s the right thing to do for someone who might be having unrealistic expectations. I stayed there with my wife, and two kids in the three bedroom villa with a private pool. The setting is beautiful, and the garden spacious, and it’s very quiet at night, although during the day there was construction of a new hotel next door (not their fault). The place was riddled with ants that would come out at night. The whole place was just a bit rundown and needed a good clean and lick of paint and proper clean. It was cleaned once in our three day stay only superficially. We had one meal in the restaurant and it took one hour to receive the children’s food, and then an additional hour to receive my wife’s and my food, seriously, we had to have it delivered to the room because we had to put the children to bed. It’s shame as the place has a lot of potential. We looked at other places in Balian to stay next time and found several that were much better value and clean.
