Fantastic place to stay! An oasis in Chiang Mai. I appreciate their free filtered water service that saves the plastic and provides safe drinking water to guests! I wish more places in Thailand had similar practices! UPDATE: the above review was written in the summer of 2017, I visited this Guest House again in May 2019. I am pleased to say that Galare Guest House is still the oasis it was in the past. The kitchen makes delicious Thai food and the seating area by the river is wonderful!

I feel comfortable and safe here. Yes, beds and bathrooms could be like US or EU "standards" as others have commented, but hey, really? If you want those, travel there. This place is clean and comfortable for an amazing price. Nice gardens and dining overlooking the river. City noise is very muted for as close to the center as it is. Staff is great and the guard often salutes you as you enter. No stuffy pretense here. I love it!

Galare Guest House is a very nice guest house east of the old city in Chiang Mai. The rooms have everything you would expect in a hotel room, and are quite comfortable. The staff were very helpful in recommending activities and booking tours. They would also recommend the best way of getting to a particular site. It is located on the river, and a short walk to the night market, though it is a 15 minute walk (or quick tuk tuk ride) to the edge of the old city. They have a simple but good breakfast (not included), as well as a lunch/dinner menu that I didn't have a chance to try out. For the price, a great choice for many different types of travellers.

great guesthouse, stayed there many times, on the river, good rooms, super staff, onsite rest is good; great location, walk everywhere; travel agency onsite; grab knows the place well; even after-hours emergency beer service; oddest wifi i have ever seen tho; i must have had to return to main desk 20 times in my visits; great english; parking for 4 vehicles ; we drive from another province , park for a few days and then grab everywhere, works great; i do have to say though, when OYO took over the booking we had some serious problems , their confirm system via google didnt work, so when we got there , no booking, then the staff tried high-pricing us on the spot; so, to me, that was it , either OYO or me; i will go elsewhere and i am sad

Very nice guest house. Rooms are not modern or fancy, but very comfortable. Old fashioned building with garden area. Helpful and pleasant staff; they will help you with booking workshops, etc. without taking a cut.

One of the best spots I've stayed in Chiang Mai Great location. Great value for money. The spot by the river and the restaurant makes it the best spot for a peaceful yet a very accessible location. Recommended for short or long stay.

MY STAY IN NOVEMBER 2019 This hotel has been my go-to in Chiang Mai: top location on the river bank, basic but clean, air conditioned rooms with hot showers, and very affordable tasty meals. Even if you don't stay at Galare, for sightseeing and tours I highly recommend contacting Dhoo, who is in charge of the travel section. On each of my visits I have given her my must-see list and, after discussing the options, she delivered exactly what I had in mind and, even better, at a competitive price. That includes tickets to the lantern festival at late notice; a private tour to the Golden Triangle via the hot springs and sticky falls; and lots of other places. She shares her deep knowledge of the local history, environmental changes and plant species, among other things. She is very helpful and has a terrific sense of humour, as well. Nothing is too much trouble for Dhoo.

Cute place close to night market. Restaurant is nicely situated overlooking the river. Can walk to night market fairly easily. Hotel is a bit hard to get to driving because of one-way streets. Good value for the money in this location.
