The museum provides a brief history to the Genoa port and then proceeded through the histories of Christopher Columbus, Genoa's navy, ship technology of the 19th century, of Italian emigration and immigration, and a hodgepodge of other one-off exhibits. The through line of the museum's exhibits isn't very clear except that they have to do with boats and Italy. There is unfortunately little content on the transition of Genoa's port between the 1500s and today. The museum has lots of exhibits suitable for kids but still is interesting for adults.
The submarine, which can be visited as part of the museum ticket, is worth a quick stop. To visit, pick up a helmet and hairnet at the museum ticket desk then proceed to the submarine.
