Galata Museo del Mare

One of the very interesting and well maintained museums that I have evervisited. We visited mainly because we wanted to see and enter the submarine - it is in sea, you can walk in the narrow spaces inside and try to understand what was the crew life back then when it was still in operation. To me it was a very interesting visit! The ticket for the museum covers the submarine too. The museum is in a huge building. On the top floor there is a terrace with magnificent views over Genova - do not miss it. Inside the museum there is s big ship, a galley. Information is provided in English with many interesting facts about the ship and the crew. Also there is a whole floor with photos and information about the collapse of two ships years ago. We bought the tickets on the spot. Overall an absolutely amazing museum, a must!

The museum provides a brief history to the Genoa port and then proceeded through the histories of Christopher Columbus, Genoa's navy, ship technology of the 19th century, of Italian emigration and immigration, and a hodgepodge of other one-off exhibits. The through line of the museum's exhibits isn't very clear except that they have to do with boats and Italy. There is unfortunately little content on the transition of Genoa's port between the 1500s and today. The museum has lots of exhibits suitable for kids but still is interesting for adults. The submarine, which can be visited as part of the museum ticket, is worth a quick stop. To visit, pick up a helmet and hairnet at the museum ticket desk then proceed to the submarine.

This was a fantastic experience for my family and I. It had just started raining when we arrived, so we were glad of the shelter. The museum has an amazing amount of historical significant pieces, and some really exotic machinery to view. Well worth a visit

Nice spot to explore and learn about naval history. Gallery has to-scale ships and also many interactive spaces. You can also go inside a decommissioned submarine. There is a nice view of the Genova area at the top of the gallery.

This is a well curated museum with very interesting exhibits. The best part was being able to walk through the submarine. I went on a weekend, it was pretty busy. But the museum is so large it's fine once you get passed the first floor.

The museum is very clean and put together. There some in English as well as an indoor 17th century ship you can go into. There is also a sub you can enter as well.
