Gallatin River Guides

What a great experience from beginning to end. Our group had 3 out of 4 of us who had never fly fished before. Our Guides taught us everything we needed to know to catch a fish. Not only did we each catch a fish but all of us caught 4 or more on this half day trip. The guides constantly gave us pointers to keep our odds of catching fish at its highest potential. Safety was at the forefront. Everything was done completely safe and well within our physical ability. I highly recommend and encourage anyone who wants a great experience to book a date with Gallatin River Guides.

We had an incredible experience with Gallatin River Guides! Our guide, Dalee, was absolutely fantastic—patient, knowledgeable, and so much fun to spend the day with. As total beginners, we weren’t sure what to expect, but thanks to her clear instruction on casting, we felt comfortable right away. Best of all, we caught plenty of fish! It was the perfect mix of learning and adventure, and we couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to fly fishing. We had the best time fly fishing with Tommy! Everyone in the shop was so warm and friendly. We went to two spots and had so much fun. Had an incredible half day trip recently with our wonderful guide Brian. Meeting at the shop all of our gear was ready to go and we went through a brief orientation. We drove about 20 minutes and got right in the river. After a quick demo our reels were in the water and my buddy and I caught all types of fish. Brian provided us with helpful tips and encouragement and made the entire experience memorable and satisfying. His passion for his craft was inspiring and had me hooked. As two young women new to the area, we couldn't have asked for a better experience than what we had with Gallatin River Guides! We had an absolutely incredible time fly fishing with Gallatin River Guides! As first-timers, we weren’t sure what to expect, but our guides, Hunter and Grace, made the entire experience fun, easy to learn, and unforgettable. In just three hours, we caught over 15 fish-something we never imagined possible on our very first outing! Hunter and Grace were not only knowledgeable and patient but also super friendly and encouraging. They tailored the trip perfectly to our experience level and made sure we were constantly learning while having a blast. The scenery was breathtaking, the gear was top-notch, and the energy from both guides made the whole experience feel effortless and exciting. We can’t recommend Gallatin River Guides enough - especially Hunter and Grace! If you’re even thinking about trying fly fishing, this is the place to do it. We’ll definitely be back!

Highly recommend Zach Yoder at Gallatin River Guides. Zach guided my son and two daughters and me over three days, and was an outstanding guide. He provided excellent instructions, encouragement and education to the beginner fly fisherman, and was psyched for every fish they caught. We fished nymphs, dry flies, streamers, and dropper rigs on the Gallatin and Yellowstone and caught fish on all rigs, all days, all rivers...too many fish to count. Zach was a pleasure to be with. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Long time client, first time post. We have been float fishing with Gallatin River Guides for years! We have been fortunate to have the same guide year after year. Like this guide taught my youngest how to fly fish when he was little. We originally was going to go with Wild Trout Outfitters a few doors down but they were so rude that we left. We are so thankful we did. The staff is great, we love the guides, even the lunch they get is delicious. We cannot say enough about Gallatin River Guides! If you are looking for fishing, look no further!

While in Big Sky visited Gallatin River Guides for a half-day Fly Fishing trip. Extremely helpful, patient and great selection from head to toe in what our group of 5 needed for an outstanding memory! Price was right in line with what you'd expect and a great value. We had a blast, and everyone caught plenty of fish! Lindsay was our particular guide, a MT native, who went above and beyond.

This is a big yes!!!!! The best in town. Don't go anywhere else in big sky! Drew and Kelsey are awesome and patient! Logan and Adam are so great! Really all the guides are too. If you want to make the most out of your fly fishing trip choose gallatin!

A group of us were visiting for the Wildlands festival. Two of us booked a guided rafting trip. Our guide was Sam. We were fishing the upper Madison river. All I can say was it was perfect. The scenery, fishing and guiding were all great. I would highly recommend this trip with Sam. He was knowledgeable and patient. We caught plenty of fish and made a ton of memories.

The staff was fantastic when we arrived! The slid into our waders and boots and hit the road. Kristy was our guide and she was fantastic! Gave so much info on fly fishing and the surrounding areas. Highly recommended!

Wow. We were in Montana for a full week and kept trying to reschedule or fly fishing trip for a warmer day. They book usually at least 1-2 weeks in advance and so we were not able to change it from the coldest day of the week at 19 degrees and snow. Needless to say I was petrified as a native Floridian but this was the MOST amazing experience ever ! By the time you got all that gear on and got in the river you were fine. The customer service in general at the store is fabulous and on the existing they try to put only one guide per couple ! Wow what attention, education, entertainment, and assurance Ryan gave us. In my experience most places like this take forever in the shop to teach, waste time re teaching it on site then waste more time getting back to "unpack." Not these guys. Not One moment wasted. He continually changed our bobber and fly etc as well as changed locations when we were slow to catch. We caught 9 fish and had a blast. I would recommend paying these guys directly and not through a lodge or hotel Package like we did as we spent $50+ more even considering tip and tax. This was the highlight of our trip to Montana !

Spent two days fishing with Sam and Garrett. Walk and wade, then a float. Was a GREAT experience! Sam was on my boat, very knowledgeable and patient in his teaching/coaching. Conversation was great too. When we come back to Big Sky, I am DEFINTELY asking for Sam or Garrett again. Gallatin River Guides knows how to take care of you!

My wife and I booked a half day trip and had a great time. The equipment was top notch and our guide Collin was polite and funny and together we caught 15 fish, saw some beautiful scenery and had a fantastic experience.

My wife and I spent the day with Parker as our Guide today. What a wonderful experience to be taught by what I would call an expert at his craft. Very good equipment provided, lots of teaching moments to learn a new skill and lots of time on the water. Sitting down and chatting during lunch was even a simple highlight of the day. I would recommend you ask for Parker, we will be back again just for the opportunity to fish with him. Parker, if you see this thank you for everything James & Julie

My family and I had a great time fishing with Carson and James! They were both phenomenal guides and made our trip even more memorable. They both tried so hard to make sure we all caught a fish. We caught 7 fish and had a lot of action throughout our half day tour. The river was very high and they did the best they could to accommodate us and we really appreciated it!

So, there's no doubt that catching a lot of fish makes for a great day on the water, so 6 out of 5 stars for that today for sure. But what made today so much fun was our guide. He was instructive (we learned Euro style today and it was FABULOUS), but also let us learn a bit on our own. He was kind and polite, but fun too. He clearly knew his fishing, his river and then some. Josh was easily in the top guides we've had fishing. The shop was also great. We've fished with them now 3 times this year, including once in the middle of winter and it was also great, and we've had great service. Easy to make reservations and easy to get information to make good decisions. Really appreciate all the questions answered and good advice about what to choose for a day on the water. Highly recommended all around. So many different rivers to choose from and many different guides, techniques and learning available - or if you just want to fish, these guys sure can give you the best head start on finding those coveted spots. I think we caught well over 40 fish on our trip - we honestly lost count after the first hole. Larry pulled out 5 in a row.... Anyway, I'm sure not every trip will be as epic as this, but this one sure was and we're appreciative of this shop and their guides for all their knowledge and professionalism.

My dad and I had a great day fishing with Casey from Gallatin last week. The way that Gallatin is set up is that they are an outfitter and they will book you with whatever guides have availability on the day you are interested. Casey was great and he said that Gallatin runs a pretty tight shop and all the guides are high quality. Casey met us promptly at the agreed time and place. We got to the fishing spot pretty quick and he worked hard all day to catch as many fish as possible. We caught maybe half a dozen rainbows and he put us on more fish but we missed some hook sets. All in all a terrific time and would absolutely fish again with Casey!

Even though we only caught one fish- our Gallatin River Guide trip was EPIC! Our guides, Bobby and Christy, were great! Our trip ended with a caught whitefish, a bald Eagle swooping in to snag a dead fish, and a total dip & ride down the Gallatin --- all caught in a 44 second video! Hilarious!

These guys were great. Ryan knew the river and helped us at every turn. It was important to me that my wife have a good time on her first outing. I've been a few times but definitely still a novice. It was a great day. We each caught a few fish and made more than a few memories. Worth it. We'll be back.

Excellent full day on the Madison River with Carson and Tommy. They were awesome - knowledgeable, prepared, great teachers, patient, easy to float with, fun and did all they could to make our day perfect. We will definitely request them again next trip! From start to finish, we really enjoyed our entire experience with Gallatin! Highly recommend them!

Josh was my husband and I's guide and he was knowledgeable and wonderful! Conner was my children's Macy & Hunter's guide. My older children had a wonderful time with Conner. Both guides were patient, fun, and knowledgeable the entire trip. We both caught amazing trout and had a beautiful backdrop. We would recommend this outfitter for anyone, and plan on returning on our next trip! Love, love, love this outfitter & our guides!

I would highly recommend this business. From the very start of booking our outing, processing of paperwork, arrival set up and our expedition they were very prompt and professional. Our guide Sam Bradford was very knowledgeable of the area and took great time teaching and getting us to a place to catch some fish. It was an enjoyable experience and we are so glad we went.

If your going to spend money to come to MT and buy a license you might as well spend money for a guide to show you where the fish are and what bait to use will make your vacation a lot nicer. Great bunch of guides at Gallatin river guides.

Gallatin River Guides now how to do it right. The Gallatin was blown out so they took my wife and I to the Madison (June 10, 2019) for a full day of successful fishing. My wife's first time fly fishing and she out fished me, with one very nice 16" rainbow. You guys are awesome. Josh provided excellent guidance. See you next year!

Thanks to our guide Sam for a great day on the Madison. Tough fishing because it was hot and the fish were picky but Sam worked hard for us all day. That was the best we could ask of any guide. We will be back and hope that Sam is available as well!

My mother and I visited Gallatin River Guides on our trip to Montana as part of a travel group. We were initially not excited for the fishing, as neither of us are big fisherman. I can now say that this was one of the absolute highlights of our trip! Zach was our guide, and took us to a beautiful spot down the river and along the mountain. He was very patient with his teaching, and before long we were catching fish! He was so entertaining and easygoing, and was very good at passing along his knowledge of the sport. I would highly recommend him as a guide.

My family and I visited Montana for the first time and wanted to fulfill our bucket list of learning how to fly fish. There were four of us total and we had an amazing first time experience! What a way to learn how to fly fish. Our guides, Nick and Josh, took care of us, taught us and ensured we all caught fish and had an amazing time! I highly recommend! Exceptional in every way! Thank you Trey for being an outstanding guide and Kara for connecting us! My husband is far more adventuresome (competitive) than I am! I suspect it may be tough to guide us both, but Trey figured it out quickly! He loves this area and shares his passion and knowledge of the history. Trey finds fish! We did a walk and wade which we prefer and he took on a nice little hike to some great spots. He is patient while teaching and honing our skills and his fly box is a dream! I wish I had taken a picture! He knows the rivers, knows what they are hitting and changes flies quickly and efficiently. We had the perfect day and could not be more thankful to Tray and the entire staff at the shop for giving us such a memorable experience!

Great overall experience, would recommend to anyone. Did a half day fly fishing trip on the river Mid-March with Trey and couldn't ask for a better time. It was our first time fly fishing and the two of us caught about a dozen trout (rainbow, brown, cut throat). Very welcoming crew in the shop as well. Get out there on the river!

My daughter and I fish a lot but never fly fishing. The 4 hour trip was awesome. Grant is a great guide. We caught brown trout and rainbows. Beautiful setting and a birthday for her to never forget. We highly recommend this spot.

I booked a full day float trip for my dad and me for his 70th birthday and a half day trip for two 16 year olds. Mike took us to the Upper Madison and he was fantastic, making this a wonderful and memorable experience. My dad and I have fly fished a few other times with guides, but this was by far a more superior trip, particularly in terms of learning more about fly fishing. Mike offered great advice and gave really detailed and helpful information about the river, the various fish and Montana. He has amazing experience has a fly fisherman and hunter so he offered great perspective about the sport and the land. He was a patient teacher and a really amazing guide. Our 16 yos went with Kara on the Gallatin. They had various levels of experience--one an expert and one a novice. Kara was fantastic with both of them, making the novice a fan and the expert cherish the experience. These trips are an investment and a wonderful experience. There are lots of choices in guides here in the Bozeman/Big Sky area but Gallatin River Guides is worth your time and money. Way to go Gallatin--your guides were awesome, the service was fantastic and we are coming back!!!

Maybe we weren't the right family for them. Two adults with our two Kids who are ten. The two guides rushed us, went along their business, not taking into account that this was our first time so we knew nothing. The guides were cranky, is all I can say. We wobbled on the rocks, slipping often, not casting correctly, and felt kinda like we were boring them. We didn't stay together as we were four: two people per guide. Still. There was no excitement, encouraging the kids with joy, happiness, "isn't this amazing" type of spirit. One of two guides spoke ill of the other behind their backs when we had separated. Odd. I wouldn't use them again.

Great shop and guide service. We spent a week in big sky, went into the shop many times and booked a float trip and small fry trip. Of the 10+ employees we interacted with everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. The small fry trip was awesome for the kids and the full day float on the Madison was absolutely epic!

9 of us came out to Big Sky to celebrate a 40th wedding anniversary. 2 experienced anglers and 4 newbies went fishing with these guys twice, one float trip, one wade trip. They treated us fantastically. Very patient with the new guys and helpful to the more experienced fishermen. Highly recommend this place, and I hope we make it back there someday. I've heard great things about this place, so I decided to try them out. They were awesome! It was my 1st time EVER fishing, and I am somewhat a little scared of fish. Our guide's name was Max, and he was extremely patient with me! He showed me what to do, was nice about giving me feedback, and most importantly, kept me safe while wading in the river. I will definitely be recommending this place to all my friends and family.

I have used this shop for going on three years for guides, flies, advice and gear. The staff and guides are friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and helped me catch lots of fish. The location is in Gallatin Canyon on Highway 191, right outside Big Sky. It is a first class operation.

Our 8 year old son has attended the Thursday night FREE Fly Tying clinic with Jimmy during the winter months for two years. The guys totally welcomed him into the group and have been so supportive. Jimmy is patient, knowledgeable, friendly and just quietly terrific. Our son is in the Gallatin now, but when he first started out with the guides in the back pond; it blew his mind every time...what kid wouldn't want to land one of those hogs!

GRG is a great outfitter. The staff are knowledgeable, always pleasant and engaging and the guides are excellent. I can highlyo recommend them for anyone with an interest in fishing in The Last Best Place. Jonathan D

I am providing a review for the fly shop. I thought the Gallatin River Guides shop was excellent. All the best equipment, very very friendly staff, and a modern / very pleasant store environment. They are right near the Gallatin and they have become one of my go to places now.

My husband and I took a full day walk-wade trip for our honeymoon and we had so much fun! We both consider ourselves pretty outdoorsy people, but neither of us have ever fly fished. Bob was our guide and he was super patient and gave the best direction on how to be successful. After a set-less morning, we finally landed some fish in the afternoon after we got the hang of it and Bob was super helpful in getting us to the right spots. He also did a great job on planning our lunch! Hope to come back someday!

Took my family (3 young daughters and wife) for their first fly fishing trip. GRG set up the housing and also a fantastic catering service for evening meals. Everything was first class. These are good people with an appreciation for their work. We would recommend them to anyone.

Rick to the hubby out for a few hours of guided fly fishing. He was super friendly and knowledgeable. The store completely set my husband up with gear, and had Rick pick him up at our lodge. My husband had a great time!
