I had a nice experience here. Some of the staff were friendlier than others. I had a room with a great view (room 104). I wasn't expecting much from breakfast but it would be nice to have more local items rather than the processed stuff. Sometimes the air conditioner stopped working. Location was great. It's not the Ritz but it works. I would come here again.

This is a late review however wanted to give Galleon House a HUGE shout out!!! I stayed there the end of January 2025 expectedly. My 6:30 pm flight was delayed for 24 hours, I waited in the long line at the airport to make sure I was transferred to the flight the next day., by this time it was 11pm. I called a few places looking for a room for the night and they had no availability. When I called Galleon omar (the owners brother) not only had availability but gave me a great rate for such short notice. They went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. I saw this treatment not just with me but with every guest.Check out was at 11am but they let me hang out and use the facilities until my 6pm flight. In that time I had great conversations with the owner, her brother and the other guests. I am a regular to St Thomas and a lot of the times stay with friends, however this will definitely be my place to stay when I’m looking for a place. It’s within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and shops. I 100% recommend this place to everyone! PS This isn’t the fanciest or ocean front if that’s what you’re looking for. The service and vibes are absolutely amazing!!

After 6 days tent camping on St. John over Christmas 2024, we were looking forward to a nice shower and two relaxing days at the Galleon House. Unfortunately, the water was off for 46 hours of our 48 hour stay. A mains failure. Not the proprietor’s fault, but it certainly became OUR problem. No shower, no flush toilets, no potable water provided (some bottles of unsanitary water were on hand - filled some weeks before). We were offered apologies but nobody thought to fill our cistern so we could flush away two days of poop. We gave the proprietor the opportunity to offer some small refund…but no, apparently this is what we paid for. I understand, it was a tough couple of days, but I think it speaks to the managements attitude. We were warned at check in: if we checked out later than 11am, we would be fined; had we failed to show for reasons beyond our control, we would have still had to pay…if the hotel can’t provide even the most basic services…we still pay. Don’t stay here.

Google
we loved this place & the people!!! full disclosure, if you’re looking for a 5-star hotel… this isn’t it. we knew when booking our reservation that we would mostly only be sleeping & showering at the hotel, & it definitely served that purpose. the room was lacking a fridge & microwave..but, the hospitality of the staff certainly makes up for that! the AC worked very well & the pool was always clean. we had the whole pool deck to ourselves almost every time we went for a swim! Omar was always around to grab us cold drinks, towels, & whatever else we needed. if you’re looking for luxury, i’d recommend looking elsewhere. but if you’re like us & just trying to see the island, definitely give the Galleon House a try!

Google
My third annual Xmas and NY personal vaca... a wonderful, warm, and friendly place to stay on the island. If you expect a Marriott style continental buffet you'll be disappointed, but there is always a hot bagel with cream cheese and jam, fresh coffee and a few other essentials to get you going. Sonya, Saida and Omar do a great job of creating a friendly atmosphere and a memorable experience. If Captain Jack (cat) acknowledges your existence at any point, then you've become a preferred guest.

Google
Nice for a night. No idea about customer service. No matter what time you arrive from where you don’t get your room before 3pm regardless if they are ready or not. Could do a lot more business by been more accommodating to guest needs!!

Google
What an awful place. It is completely bizarre to me that they have any good reviews. Moldy walls, no running water. (They kept saying the water company is repairing a broken pipe on the main road) Funny that every other building nearby had water. And so did the community shower there. This happened on multiple days. You can't even flush the toilet. I spoke with other guests and they haven't even been told that the water is off until they are shown the room. The staff is sketchy, weird and completely unprofessional. The only good thing was the nice cold AC

Michael

Google
Positive: Great view from some rooms Negative: Poorly maintained, awful breakfast, sloppy management, no water during our stay (there was a city market ns failure), not the proprietors fault, but no shower, toilets full of poop became our problem.

Yelp
I was happy that this place was near the town and I could walk around and explore. I didn't feel like taking a taxi, so from there to Havensight was a good 28-30 minute walk (IF you can take the heat). I had a great view of the town and got to meet their cute residential cat, Captain Jack (he was a lovely alarm clock at 6AM when I heard his meows outside). The other alarm clocks are the roosters at 3AM, and they will keep going for hours, which had me laughing. Let me warn you, if you stay during the weekend, the club next door will be BUMPING. Also, be prepared for mosquitos and have some repellent ready to go. Don't be scared of the lizards. They are more scared of you and fun to watch. There are A LOT of stairs. PACE YOURSELF. Most of everything in town closes at 5PM. There's a really good food truck outside that has some good soul food (he only comes out around 5PM and you can smell it). Other than that, I had a roommate I named Jeremy, the resident huntsman spider who decided to live in the shower area (I let him live and slept with one eye open).

Yelp
After traversing what seemed like a thousand steps, we finally made it to the check-in part of this bed and breakfast. Part-owner Harry offered a helping hand and our check-in was very smooth. The view from the open air deck was phenomenal and we met a very nice couple, who were also staying here and had dinner with them. Harry gave great suggestions on where to eat and informed us on what we were viewing from the deck. We opted for the most basic room and the bed was not quite as comfortable as I would have liked but overall, this place is pretty nice. The breakfast is very simple (breakfast bars, muffins, coffee, juice, and such.) We only stayed one night before heading to St. Croix but our check-out was also smooth, and we had a great time during our visit. Definitely not ritzy, but it was OK for one night.

Yelp
The Galleon House is a decent, clean choice fir accommodations in St. Thomas. It is walking distance fro. The water and various vendors during festival times. The accommodations are very simple. You get a room, with an air conditioner, a fridge, and a bathroom. We needed last minute accommodations and this was where we were referred to. If you aren't going to be in your room much and just need a place to sleep, this is an okay choice. The customer service is good and it is clean. This isn't like typical US hotel rooms, it is very no frills.

Dang N.

Yelp
3.5 stars. I liked this place. Right in the middle of old Charlotte. I walked around from here-especially the bay and it's maybe 5m away. You'll pass chickens and rooster on the way. The owner runs the place and she's really friendly. The room is really small and it takes a bit for the AC to cover the whole room. Place also has a clean pool. Would def stay here again. And there's designated parking here though it can get full.

Matthew G.

Yelp
This was nicer than I expected, considering the price and the last-minute booking! The room itself is fairly no-frills, as far as the furniture and decor go. But it is in a great location, was clean and had an amazing view from our balcony overlooking the red rooftops of Charlotte Amalie to see sunset over the ocean and islands. The workers were all pretty friendly, and breakfast had better variety than your average basic continental (granola bars, pop tarts, muffins, bagels and cream cheese, fresh fruit, and of course coffee.) Quite reasonable considering the price we paid to stay here! The room interiors are a little stark and beds could be better, but if we could get a room like this for the same kind of reasonable rate, I would definitely return and stay again for a night or two.

Christine F.

Yelp
Most importantly, it's clean and safe. It's not the ritz and the stairs are not for the faint of heart. Room was clean and good size and the balcony was a huge plus. View was awesome. Hot water was really more tepid. Owners were friendly and nice. I agree with another post that it's like a few levels up from a hostel. Things are not grand but they function. It's built into the side of a hill, so again, stairs are no joke. But if you can handle a good hike ok you'll prob be fine. Parking could be an issue but if there are no spots in front theres a municipal lot that's perfectly fine for $5 a day and you can leave it overnight. Good location close to shopping. Also a fairly short drive to Mengen's bay.

Yelp
If your visiting St Thomas you MUST stay here.We was supposed to leave Sunday but because of a tropical storm we got stuck and the resorts wanted absolutely too much however we discovered a local gem nobody knows about .The owners Sonia and Harry are beyond accommodating from the time you check in they greet you with smile positive vibes. The rooms are great they are clean and the view is amazing. Also it located next to Main Street which is literally walking distance at night you can go to bars again you can walk you can't get that staying at the resorts. Harry and Sonia was amazing at directing us to any foods or ATMs , gift shops or even calling a taxi. The pool area is such a vibe shout out to Sonia for making sure it is nice and clean the pool is beautiful. They do provide breakfast snacks in the morning which is also a plus. We will definitely be coming back and staying here again.

Randine K.

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 days before we were staying on a boat nearby. We chose this place because it was affordable. I was warned it was simple and outdated so I wasn't expecting much. We actually really liked staying here! It was homey, the owners were friendly and it was in walking distance to plenty of shops and places to eat. We walked over to Havensight which is about 20 minutes and well worth it! The pool is clean as well so no issues there. Definitely give them a shot!

JP N.

Yelp
Fabulous service from a family run business. Incredible pool with a view and water filtration station that kept drinking water safe to consume and delightful to shower in. Pool was perfect temp! Harry has great beers to select from and was helpful for suggesting what activities to add to our itinerary. Saida welcomed us with kindness and helped our group of 9 get settled into rooms. They offered exceptional customer service and provided great recommendations for places to eat and places to visit. Highly recommended! They helped us feel like family at this beautiful resort.

Abbie S.

Yelp
This was our first trip to St. Thomas and we are making plans to go back and stay at the Galleon House again. We stayed from October 15-23, 2022 in Room 201. The hotel was charming and safe and the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was more than adequate - fresh bagels and fruit were available every day, hot coffee, tea, muffins. Harry was especially helpful, giving us tips on parts of the island we should visit, places to eat, and making us feel welcomed. We enjoyed getting to know other guests that came through and hotel staff during our stay, and the iguanas! The hotel is close to a variety of restaurants and shops, and it's easy enough to see other parts of the island on the safari. There's even a small convenience store nearby in case you forgot something. Be prepared to walk up some stairs, which adds to the charm of the hotel!

Ivy S.

Yelp
Harry and family were amazing! Friendly, nice, easy to chat with, I even had a few drinks with them. I agree with an earlier comment that it's not the Ritz and the stairs are not for the faint of heart. However my room was clean, quiet and I had a good size comfortable bed. Great location in town center, close to shopping, restaurants etc. I liked it and would stay here again when I visit St. Thomas.

Lance S.

Yelp
Windowless room with paper thin walls. Front desk person walked right by us, went into his office and closed the door without checking us in. The "continental" breakfast is Nutrigrain bars and weak coffee. A depressing down at the heels business. Room was awful. Old outdated furnishings. Other than the location and possibly the price, there is little to recommend this place. More like a crappy youth hostel in Soviet-occupied East Germany. Old. Tired.

Mary T.

Yelp
This is an amazing place ! It's clean , very charming , Sonya takes great care of her pool ... free breakfast!!

Shawn D.

Yelp
All you need to know is that there is NO BETTER place to stay in St Thomas if you're looking for an "living in the island" feel instead of the run of the mill corporate hotel, the Galleon house is a must! The owners( Harry and Sonia) were absolutely more than welcoming. By the end of my partners' and I's first night we were playing Dominos with the Harry. The next day we went out with them to Blue beard to enjoy local bands. Which led a one in a life time tour of St. John led by the owners and new friends. My partner and I had an amazing experience and it's all because we stayed at the Galleon house. Highly recommended and it's going to be the only place we stay when going to the islands.

Mike B.

Yelp
Dont even think about it. There must be another alternative to this "Hotel". Rats are everywhere , not in the rooms. But in the walls and everywhere outside. Water pressure is poor at best. The Hotel is barely operating and in a state of disrepair. You are warned

Rachel K.

Yelp
Loved it. Husband and I booked a room for one night using rewards points. Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised with the facility and customer service. I've stayed in hostels and this is more of a hostel than a hotel. That being said, it's an excellent one! Clean, laid back, hot water. offers free pool towels, sunscreen, aloe and breakfast to customers. I can't emphasize the clean part enough. Sure the property is old but all we needed was a clean place to relax and lay our heads. Galleon did the job. The steps aren't bad...unless you have a lot of luggage. In which case, brace yourself for the workout ahead of you. We rather enjoyed the steps and considered it a great leg workout to tone us for the beach! It's located in downtown Charlotte Amalie so we were able to walk to Frenchtown and in the old danish mall to find food/explore. We'd stay here again.

Jaimie C.

Yelp
Ugh, not what my husband and I were expecting. It's family run (and I believe the family live on site). The staff are all warm and friendly, and it's in a great location. They'd get 5 stars. Heads up that breakfast is more like a continental breakfast, but we were in charge of making it/serving ourselves (IE toasting our own bagels, pouring our juice or water from a plastic jug into a plastic cup, choosing our choice of fruit cups and granola bars from a plastic bin). The main reason for this review is to describe the condition of our room. It gets 1 star. The room was not at all what was advertised. It smelled like Fabuloso upon walking in (it was almost overwhelming, I opened up the window to air it out). The decor was very dated, and several outlets, wall paneling, and the lock on our door were all in need of repair. There were mosquitos everywhere (even with the windows closed), and so we'd wake up each morning with fresh bites all over. Then one morning I found a freaking roach in the bathroom!!! A ROACH! My spirit just about left my entire body in that moment, I knew we had to leave. No way could I get any rest because I'd be wondering what' the heck may be crawling on or biting me while I slept!!! We originally booked a 7-day stay but we left after 2.5 days when I found that dang roach. I wish we could get our money back, but I don't expect that to happen. We found an actual hotel to stay in that's much cleaner. I hate to leave a poor review since I believe this place is a family run establishment (and I know reviews are so important to the business), but I feel like I'd for sure want to be warned of the conditions before making a decision, and it's up to people like me to be honest. Just doing my part to help you make a choice. The risk is up to you.

Thamara M.

Yelp
Thank you Henry for your hospitality,I had a great time, everything clean and organized definitely will go back. Room 201June 7-10

Juan R.

Yelp
Highly recommended staying here if your visiting the island it's near the airport and and near lots of good restaurants and attractions. Room 104 is a MUST if available. Such a beautiful view.

Emilia L.

Yelp
A rinky dink little hotel with amazing staff! Super great service. The complimentary breakfast was lovely. Very well cared for but if you are looking for "high end" this isn't the place. If you are looking for cozy, charming and a local experience and aren't afraid of thin walls and sharing bathrooms then yes - great! Yeah, I arrived and there was no water for a few hours but by the time I woke up from my nap they had fixed it. I personally prefer to not be so sheltered in resort style luxury. I like to hang with the locals...

Casey B.

Yelp
I'm not sure what people are talking about when they say this is a good deal -- if I'm going to spend $200 for one night in a BnB, hotel, or any other accommodation, I expect a little better. The A/C did not work at all, which we brought up with someone at the front desk and she suggested that we leave it on for the cold air to build up. It never did. While we ended up spending an extra $30 to get a stunning view, it's worth mentioning that the first room we were put in not only had no view, it had NO WINDOWS. It was a wooden box. I've stayed in hostels for $10/night, and they at least had windows. It seems unconscionable to me to rent a room to anyone at any price that does not have a window, let alone for $170. Be aware of this when you book and splurge for the view. Perhaps the single thing that shaped my stay the most and compelled me to write this review is that there was dog poop 3 inches from the lip of the pool. While it probably was not unsafe for us to swim (and we did), it was just gross and evidence of the general feeling of disrepair at Galleon House. On the plus side, the breakfast was delicious and the people who work there are the nicest folks around doing the best they can. It's too bad the space itself is so run-down because it has a lot of potential to be really nice. Unfortunately, you're hard pressed to find anything better for the price in Charlotte Amalie...it's just a touristy place with inflated prices.

Shaynel R.

Yelp
I came to visit this location after a friend recommended it after her and her family's stay. I was so excited to stay in a cute and relaxed location but from the first night I checked in, I had some issues. The first issue is that the room I was put in was infested with BEDBUGS! When I reported the bedbugs the owners agreed to wash my clothes and THAT'S IT! Then the owner told me and my friends we had to leave or get an addition room due to the number of people in one room when they saw all members checking in when paying and this was a response to the bedbugs! I was then told I cant dry my clothing in their location after being told we can wash our clothes to try and combat the traveling of the bedbugs. When I saw the owners Chris and Melissa are evil and attempt to appear to want to be concerned however they never addressed us after hearing about our issue, they did not offer any solutions to this issue or referenced looking into the issue. I really wanted to enjoy my stay here but the way the owners handled us was very unprofessional and inconsiderate. Don't even waste your time or money staying here!

Suzanne G.

Yelp
We stayed here on a quick overnight through St. Thomas. It's a cute place, probably not for everyone but I liked it. This isn't a luxury accommodation but it definitely suited our purposes. The front desk lady was super sweet and you can tell she liked working there. The view from the pool was pretty good and the pool was nice and clean The room was clean. The shared bathroom (we were in a room with a shared bathroom) was clean & bright. The only cons I have are that the bed squeaked quite a bit (we were in room 338 right next to the bathroom) and there was a rooster in the neighborhood that crowed pretty much all night long. Someone from the hotel should definitely talk to the neighbor and see if they can buy that rooster and get rid of it! We had an early flight so we didn't get to try the breakfast. Basically this is a basic hotel that's definitely worth the price. I'd stay here again (and hopefully will since I'd love to explore St. Thomas some more!)

Eric S.

Yelp
Don't waste your time or money here! No lights in the hall leading to my room completely dark. Was not able to even see the room number or get the key in the lock. Ice machine broken tv in my room didn't work. Was not able to log onto wifi from my room. Not to mention the room was infested with ants. I stepped on a piece of broken glass on the floor of my room and cut my foot. Bed leg was broken and was propped up by some rocks. All this for $208 for one night

Maria D.

Yelp
A very charming bed and breakfast in a perfect location. It's walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants and has an amazing view of the ocean. We stayed in the cheapest rooms since we just needed a place to shower and sleep, but it had everything we needed and breakfast. The best part of the stay was the hospitality, the managers are so sweet and you can tell they love making sure their guests are having a good stay. I would absolutely stay here again!

Chris I.

Yelp
Best deal you can find in Charlotte Amalie. You can walk anywhere down town or over to the cruise ship area if you want to venture in that direction. If you are looking for a clean room with no in room extra's this is the place for you. For what it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in it's free breakfast and charm. I think the best thing I could say is that I would stay there again if we come back to St. Thomas. I think it really does have the best price ratio of where we stayed. Pro's: - Price and location - Great free breakfast of either eggs or pancakes with juice and coffee. - AC kept our room cool just fine (but did make noise you could hear all night) Con's: - Not all rooms are created equal, but they are priced correctly. - Bed made a bit too much noise when you rolled over or got up. - Some rooms have a shared bathroom (But hey this is a B&B what do you expect.) - Misquotes (Almost all hotels and B&B's we stayed at in the virgin islands have this issue, so it is more a con of the area.)

Jules K.

Yelp
Gail was awesome, she made sure we were safe and made me feel like I was at home. Homemade breakfast was yummy :) definitely recommend this place.

Frank Z.

Yelp
Most inexpensive in my search, and I enjoyed the views, door paintings, security ( too good, I was locked out when my partner had the key), the historic location, proximity to neighboring hotels restaurant, and pool beneath governors mansion. Recommend.

Jon H.

Yelp
This place was horrible. First, we had to call the front desk to move the road block to pull up a hill to the front of the place. Second, the walk up to the front desk and our room was a workout. Third, the room we paid $175.00 a night for was the size of a walk in closet. Everything smelled like the inside of a strip club bathroom plus the AC air was moldy. We looked inside the shared bathroom and it was filthy. After washing our hands we only had a floor rug hanging up to dry our hands on. Needles to say, we wiped our hands on our clothes. Sitting in the room getting bit by mosquitoes started getting to us so we asked the night clerk about the area. He said it's a bad part of town and not to just walk around at night. I couldn't believe it. The only thing yo do was put our feet in the pool. My lady and I couldn't see the water to get all the way in and based off everything else, we weren't going to risk it. We get back up to the room and looked at the sheets and found a BEDBUG! That's when the whole terrible experience ended. I told the people there we'd eat what we paid but we're getting out of there immediately. We called a cab and luckily got a minister who drives a taxi to pick us up because of the location and take us to Lindbergh Bay Hotel and Villas. The young man at Lindbergh was a lifesaver! I told him the story and he saved our vacation for us. I can't stress how terrible of an experience Galleon House was for us. If you want to risk it. I wish you luck.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
My new husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in St Thomas and we absolutely loved it!!! It is not at all like "big chain" hotels, but that's what makes it so fantastic! It's so charming and quaint and the people there really make you feel at home. The free breakfast every morning is served hot and fresh and delicious! We got a room with a queen sized bed and our own private bathroom and we could not have asked for more. We had a cable tv but we were out and about so often that we rarely watched it! A HUGE THANK YOU goes to Jeff, Gayle and Chris so making us feel so welcomed and keeping us informed on special things going on downtown and how to catch a taxi and etc. The only con I would say is not even the hotels fault but the city of Charlotte Amalie's fault: it's very hilly!! The Galleon sits atop a hill and there's another 4 small flights of stairs to get to the lobby. But other than that, we lovvvvvveeeeed it!We look forward to coming back to visit in the future! - The Rosidors

Jason M.

Yelp
There is a fine line between charter and needs some serious work. This place crosses the line in a bad way. Its clean but really run down. The AC unit has no "vets so it blew like o tornado directly at the bed. The shower had mortar and concrete that needed to be be cleaned dup The smoke detector was broken and in the top dresser drawer. The bed had a "Crater" where so many people had slept in it.

Lisa P B.

Yelp
There are pros and cons to this Bed and Breakfast. My hubby and mom and two yorkies moved to the island and we had to find a home to rent and a car. We arrived and be forwarned the taxis drivers especially Ronnie gave us a rate before boarding the taxi then gave us another higher one after arriving at the Galleon house and just left us outside with all of our luggage. He said he didnt do stairs. A real piece of work!!! Ok getting back to why i 5 starred this establishment. Because our ray of light was Gail the Galleons manager she literally help my hubby and me with the 11 suitcases up the 124 stairs into a storage shed and then helpped us check in with the remaining luggage. The biggest con here is the stairs they are horrific! The pros.... ok the breakfast was made to order by Gail. Her staff was very polite and the rooms are not fancy yet they are clean and suited us perfectly due to we didnt want to spend alot of money on hotel room since we are not on vacation. This paradise is now our new home. Ok fresh towels daily and great rates we had a spectacular view and an amazing historical establishment. I felt like i was back in the pirate days. Just gorgeous surroundings and brickwork. We paid 170.00 per night for a double room with a view for mom hubby and both our baby yorkies. It was a wonderful experience and Gail was what made this stop over to our new home wonderful. But i warn you the steps are not for everyone. It is very hard to lug luggage and elderly people or just people who have bad backs or knees.

Yelp
nice place-- unique and charming. some rooms don't have windows-- ask for a room with a view- amazing views! people complain about the stairs-- they were nowhere near as challenging as we'd imagined-- it's a hilly island. enjoy the stairs. breakfast is homemade and delicious!!!!
