The Most Colorful Hotels in the World, From Morocco to Guatemala

"Located in the heart of Milan inside the historic, iconic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Galleria Vik Milano acts as both a hotel and a private museum. The South American art-loving import, Vik Retreats, claimed the former TownHouse Galleria and transformed it into this creative and forward-looking space. The hallways have been transformed into art galleries, and each suite is created as a site-specific art installation by Italian, Uruguayan, and international artists. The walls in each guest room are finished in the Italian design technique, “stucco Veneziano,” with twenty different color variations that compliment its decor—reflecting Milan’s rich artistic heritage. Even VIK Pellico Otto, their inspirational art gallery restaurant which overlooks the famous bull in the Galleria, is adorned with colorful marble tables and showcases work from many of the artists represented throughout the suites. From the Grand Terrace rooms to their Courtyard Suites, you’ll find pops of blue, red, and green, as well as a range of themes from surrealism to abstract. The space is an ode to Milan’s core charms: art, fashion, and style." - Jessica Chapel

"Galleria Vik Milano (formerly Seven Stars Galleria) As the only hotel inside the city’s famed 19 th -century Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (the oldest shopping mall in the world), the place is in a league of its own, from the building’s hand-painted vaulted ceilings and original frescoes to touches like grand pianos in the rooms and the racing-green Bentley Continental Flying Spur that whisks guests around the city in style. There are 24 rooms in total, though the tall ceilings and mezzanine levels make them feel much more like private apartments than rooms. Designer furnishings and high-tech amenities complement the building’s original features and antiques, and guests get their own professional butler-concierge (all languages catered for), a choice of bed linen and pillow type, and as much vintage wine and champagne as they can handle. Personal laptops and shopping trolleys from the best luxury brands are also available on request."

Unfortunately, my experience at La Galleria Vik was very disappointing. I arrived at 2:50 PM and was told that check-in is at 3 PM, which was fine. However, even after 3 PM, there was a delay, and we only received the room around 3:20 PM. When we entered, we were shocked to find that the room belonged to another guest!!! their luggage already arrived to the room! To make things worse, the room was not the one we booked. We had booked a room with a balcony, but they gave us one without it. When we asked about the balcony, the staff member pointed at the window and claimed that was the balcony, clearly trying to mislead us. We immediately went back to the reception to sort thing out, and the same staff member avoided eye contact and literally turned his face away to avoid speaking with us. When we explained the issue to another receptionist and mentioned the delay and room mix-up, she responded rudely and started yelling instead of offering help. This hotel has serious issues with professionalism, customer service, and basic hospitality. I wouldn’t stay here again, and I strongly recommend avoiding it. The location is good but there are several 5 stars hotels nearby you can book.

This is a hard hotel to review because there are highs and lows. First the good. The people are super nice and helpful. And the location is great. And the breakfast was first class. But there are problems. First, air conditioning. It’s pretty terrible. My room felt muggy and damp at all times which made sleeping very hard. Second, water. My shower hard almost no cold water. And plenty of scalding hot water. They tried to fix it several times but really didn’t. It was hard to shower for more than a few seconds.

I stayed at the VIK Milano once before a few years ago, my first visit I have to be totally honest was superb! Everything was perfect; rooms, staff & food all 5 stars quality!|That's the main reason why I decided to come back this year; however my last stay was a NIGHTMARE!!! Everything was terrible, I have no idea why? maybe a change in management? not sure...|1) the room was very dirty and there were constructions going on the whole afternoon, I have complained to the hotel staff that the drilling was too loud and impossible to have a rest. The reply was, let me check the situation (staff didn't know that the hotel was doing construction renovation?? hard to believe!) after 30Min they confirmed that they were doing construction work and that they couldn't do anything about it (maybe change a room with less noise??) anyway, not tried to solve the problem whats so ever, and I have to say that the tone was pretty rude! (For a 500+euros per night room I expect a quite room is it to much to ask?)|2) Staff was soooooooo rude and not helpful at all; mainly a blond young guy and a blond girl at the reception (should have asked for their name)||The only good part was their breaskfast; the food and the restaurant staff were superb! a thumb up for the restaurant manager, had everything in control! only downside is seems that they decreased the food selection, and have to pay extra for cooked items.||Finally, after this experience I can say that I will not be back!

The location is the best Breakfast overlooking the galleria was a bonus. The breakfast spread is amazing. The hotel is like an art gallery. You can spend hours admiring local work. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Finally our front desk greeter, Maurizio was super hospitable and provided excellent service throughout our stay.

Location is UNBELIEVABLE. This hotel might be one of the coolest places I have ever stayed at. Its view into the world’s oldest mall/art exhibit and is absolutely wonderful. The service at the concierge and front desk was 24/7 through WhatsApp and was SO helpful. Absolutely everything we needed was brought at a fast pace and we were treated like esteemed guests. The rooms are beautiful and super clean. Shower and bathroom had a perfect marble touch to it and made our stay feel modernized. I overall would DEFINITELY recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Milan wanting to see it’s history while enjoying your stay in style. 10/10. Well done.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. YOU BETTER OFF SLEEPING IN A 3 STAR NEAR THE STATION. this place is no where close to a 5 star. Rooms have no blinds, there is no service, the place itself has nothing of a 5star or a 4 star ambience.

A bold art-splashed statement tucked inside Milan’s iconic gallery more gallery than hotel, honestly. Every hallway, wall and room aims for creative provocation, with pieces that range from thoughtful to jarringly loud. If you love design forward stays with a strong point of view, this is your playground. But that punch comes at the expense of polish and consistency. Some rooms felt dusted but not truly cleaned and a few deviated from the artistic narrative, landing more in confusion than cohesion. Service was fine, not seamless definitely not your white-gloved Milanese luxury. Still, for location and visual presence, it delivers. You come here for the vibe, not the comfort. It’s aesthetic impact over classic hospitality and that trade-off will either excite you or leave you detached.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights. Initially, everything seemed fine — check-in went smoothly and the staff at reception were welcoming. However, things took a very distressing turn at checkout. I was informed that the hotel had not received payment from Booking.com, despite the fact that the reservation was clearly marked as prepaid and non-refundable. I was then asked to pay an additional €1,526.50 on the spot. Naturally, I was confused and deeply concerned. I calmly explained that my travel agent had already completed the payment, and I even provided evidence. Unfortunately, the staff were not willing to listen and simply insisted that I had to pay again. I was just as eager as they were to understand where the money had gone — after all, I am absolutely not someone who avoids paying for services. Things escalated quickly when they said they would call the police. I cooperated fully, even willing to go to the police station. There, my luggage was held by the hotel, and the police mentioned that I might have been scammed. After carefully reflecting on the situation and considering the stress it was causing, I decided to resolve the matter by paying again — not because I believed I owed the amount, but because I wanted to end the ordeal and retrieve my belongings. I approached the hotel manager politely, ready to discuss the issue calmly, as I truly believed this was not the fault of either party — just an unfortunate situation. To my shock, instead of engaging in a respectful conversation, the manager led me to a staff-only stairwell and threatened that if I didn’t pay, I wouldn’t be allowed to leave the country and could be sent to jail. I was deeply hurt and intimidated by this treatment. Again, I want to stress: I’ve never been a person who avoids financial responsibility — €1,526.50 is not insignificant, but it’s not about the amount. I just needed clarity about where my original payment went. Because of this situation, I missed my flight back to Manchester and incurred extra charges for car rental. The emotional toll and the aggressive attitude from the hotel staff were truly damaging. After paying, they promised to return my luggage to the ground floor, but instead left it unattended near the reception area. I will definitely be reporting this experience to the hotel’s headquarters. In terms of the room itself: it was generally acceptable, but there were a few serious issues. The toilet leaked every time it was flushed, which is especially distressing for someone like me who has obsessive-compulsive tendencies regarding cleanliness. On our second night, the fire alarm went off and all guests were forced to stand outside for about two hours. There was no proper apology — we were simply told that someone had smoked in their room. I’ve traveled extensively and stayed in many 5-star hotels, but I’ve never encountered such a disorganized and hostile experience. The only redeeming qualities of this hotel are its location and view. Everything else was, unfortunately, deeply disappointing.
