"This gallery – founded by Elmar Weinmayr and now run by his wife, Fumie Okumura (pictured) – sits in a century-old Japanese house and specialises in contemporary ceramics and lacquerware. With the assistance of architect Koichi Futatsumata, the duo gave a minimal renovation to the wooden structure and commissioned an up-and-coming gardener to draw up a perfect garden with moss and Japanese maple."

Had my first tea ceremony experience here and it was amazing! The mochi was so good it goes well with tea. So peaceful, beautiful and calm. Aside from the tea ceremony they also sold products like pottery and tea.🌱 Although there’s no sign about the place so you might wonder if you are in the right place because that happened to me ( ; ; )but you just have to enter the front door and calling if someone inside and they will come greet you.

This unassuming teahouse offers a peaceful, intimate experience. I arrived shortly after it opened at 11am and did the tea tasting which included two teas and two sweets for ¥3,900. You can opt for a cold tea for an additional ¥300. I chose one hot and one cold. The experience included smelling tea leaves to select your hot tea with explanation cards provided and the staff were also helpful. I had the warabimochi and a red bean bun and the tranquil tea room seated just five people, making it a calm and relaxing experience.

My husband and I came here on our honeymoon on recommendations from friends. We are not terribly big tea drinkers but wanted to try an experience like this given Kyoto’s association and history with tea. This blew our minds. The experience was so relaxing we both felt like we could’ve taken a nap right at the counter…. Everything about it was intentional, meticulous, and beautifully crafted to offer a tea tasting like no other. The accompanying dishes with the tea are amazing. The garden is so soothing to look at afterward.

A Japanese tea house with a carefully designed atmosphere. The combination of traditional Japanese architecture and Nordic furniture is elegant and very pleasant. The staff is very attentive, and the experience of having tea here brings a sense of calm. Definitely worth a visit. We didn’t purchase anything from the art/ceramics gallery, but it’s worth visiting and perhaps buying one of their pieces, which also have a very thoughtful aesthetic. A must-stop for slow tourism in Kyoto.

Very informative staff and zen atmosphere. We stopped by to buy sencha tea as we were looking for ceramic teapot. They have nice unique teapots and cups and small gallery is beautiful too.

Very nice tea experience. They are so meticulous and quiet in their presentation- very impressive to a loud American like me. I had a ton of questions about the different pieces they were using and they were patient in their explanations. The teas were diverse and lovely. Just an all around lovely experience. Sadly could not take photos in the tea room so will just have to take my word for it. Bought tea and some of the soy sauce crackers to take home.

Good experience, the person who served me are super nice and she spoke well English. Don't know much about tea, she tried to explained. I'm not a person who love tea, but it's quite an experience. The sweets are special tasting that I never taste such before nor in other place in kyoto. So I think this is a good place if you want to experience some special flavour and don't mind to pay some higher fees for it for better experience. I enjoyed the short 30 minutes tea session. (You can sit there as long as you want I guess) 👍

A great experience in the tearoom you get to pick two different teas and two different sweets. We got a 2023 and 2022 selection which were good, the ambient is serious and respectful. No pictures are allowed while they are serving the tea!
