"Beyond the Great Things In The Gallery of Great Things, visitors will find much more than "things" to experience when they walk in the shop. The actual building was a nurses' quarters during WWII serving an estimated 50,000 soldiers who passed through during the war. Maria, the shopkeeper who founded the gallery, has filled her store with art, antiques, and curiosities that reflect the Pacific culture, history of the Islands, and Hawai‘ian lifestyle. She has endeavored to preserve the culture of the Islands through her work in the store and sells the work from more than 200 local artisans, including the best known Hawai‘ian artists. One walk through her crowded shop guarantees everyone will find a treasure—whether it’s a wind chime, koa wood sculpture, painting, or just postcard."

Awesome art featuring nature and sea life. Many items and prints are of reasonable price, and there are also many high-end items as well.

Google
Wonderful variety of things to see in here, amazing looking jewelry and art pieces, definitely worth checking out. Also love that this space used to house the nurses in the World War, very neat

Gallery of Great things is a destination for artists and people looking for unique art by local and afar. There is something for everyone and a great place to find gifts for your special occasions.

Google
One of the most complete galleries of arts and crafts on Kona, and definitely the jewel of the northwestern region. If you're looking for something made on the big island, this is the place to find it.

This gallery is full of unexpected charm and is filled to the brim with uniqure art objects, from paintings, to photographs, sculptures, antiques, small gifts, etc. I was very happy with the service too. The women who I have come across while visiting the gallery are always helpful, and never pushy. If they don't know the answer to my question, they are eager to figure it out by calling the artist/maker or owner for verification. There is a huge selection of unique jewelry and something for everyone's price point.

Google
Fantastic gallery of artwork, wooden carvings & furniture, paintings, hand crafted jewelry, pottery and other finely crafted pieces that great a locked space in any home or office. Some quite pricey but others reasonable. All around a great experience. Come in you'll next know what you might find!

Google
Gallery of Great Things is my first choice for its diversity of art, jewelry, treasures and souvenirs from all over the globe, but focused on artifacts from Polynesia and Hawaii. This shop requires a time commitment if you want to appreciate its many fine offerings. The selection may seem overwhelming, but it is impeccably curated, and worth the time to examine. I appreciate the staff, who are helpful but never intrusive or overbearing. They allow customers to browse at length. There are unique and beautiful matted prints buried in all that available art! I have quite a few unique and stunning pieces from this shop, and I recommend it to all guests and visitors!

Google
Absolutely lovely gallery and staff. We ended up taking home some beautiful souvenirs and gifts for friends/family. This is truly a gallery of great things and a must go if you're looking for something special to bring home!

Yelp
Miss Maria welcomed us into her beautiful shop early on Black Friday and what a treasure trove this shop is. She was so kind and gracious telling us all about her shop! She told us she's been around for almost 40 years and there was such a variety of products and price points here. Featuring over 200 local artists that she hand picks walking into this space is absolutely a must even if you just take a look.

Yelp
I really like this place. It's a small gallery of unique gifts, with a lot of custom furniture pieces, prints and sculptures. There is always something fun to see here, but unfortunately they are proud of their stuff. And by proud I mean very very proud (pricey) beyond what I would pay for some of it. I enjoy nice things, but because something is a one of a kind nice thing doesn't necessarily mean I will pay beyond what I think it is worth. Sometimes it's subjective I know, but there is a common sense point which I won't cross. Still, I will keep going back in hopes of finding that one nice thing which I can enjoy beyond seeing it in the store if the price is right.

Yelp
If I have time to spend in Kamuela, I invariably stop here to browse through this gallery. They have sculptures from small to large, wall decor, jewelry, household items like dishes or wooden spoons, and prints and originals in the back. Sometimes I find something to purchase, other times it is just nice to look at the various collections. Most are from local artists, just ask and they will tell you. A low-key environment for decorating your home or picking up unique souvenirs for others. Note that they might have new hours. We saw online their posted hours said open to 5:30 on Saturday and open on Sunday, but when we got there at 4:15 on Saturday they were already closed. The sign said 10-4 on Saturdays and CLOSED on Sundays. So my recommendation is to call ahead for their current hours.

Yelp
Incredible collection of new and old art. We never go to Waimea without stopping in. Knowledgable and friendly staff.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Quality artwork in a historic building with friendly employees. Gallery of Great Things is the perfect name for this store offering local art and crafts. The pieces sold here range in size from a small piece of jewelry to a large piece of furniture. I loved some of the original oil paintings but the art here comes in all mediums like beaded key chains, photography, word carvings, etc. During WWII, United States Marines came to Waimea after the Battle sat Tarawa for recovery from the trauma of war and malaria. The building that the Gallery of Great things is located inside the old nurses headquarters where eight nurses cared for many marines. Read more about Marines in Waimea here: http://www.mcbhawaii.marines.mil/News/News-Article-Display/Article/539290/waimea-community-embodies-proud-history/ https://historichawaii.org/2017/03/30/camptarawa/ In addition to a few tidbits of history, the very friendly owner also gave us some tips for our drive to Hilo. Indeed, this gallery is great, for more than just one reason.

Yelp
This store is a treasure trove. One room crowded with unique and gorgeous gifts followed by another. There are colorful things everywhere you look, inexpensive and pricey. I almost feel nervous about moving around for fear that I'm going to make a wrong step while transfixed and knock over a huge display of glass artwork. But the staff is cheery, knowledgeable and relaxed, even with curious youngsters in tow. I'm really not doing it justice in my description, but it's a fun and interesting store. Stop by! I love the entire shopping center this is located in (Parker Square), but this shop is top notch.

Yelp
This is not your cheesy souvenir store peddling Kona coffee and shirts stating, "Someone who loves me went to the Big Island... blah, blah, blah." The Gallery of Great Things is chalked full of artsy treasures from Hawaii and other locations in the Pacific and should you find yourself up in Kamuela, it is a must see! You're encouraged to scan through drawers and look over histories attached to many items. Look, ask questions, appreciate and you will be rewarded by the owner with a bit of aloha and quite an education. I left with a beautiful sterling silver Hawaiian ring and a newly minted appreciation for the art and antiques in the gallery.

Yelp
Gallery of Great Things is at the top of my list for its diversity of art, jewelry, treasures and souvenirs from all over the globe -- but focused on artifacts from Polynesia and Hawaii. It ranks with the best on the Big Island. Their selection may seem overwhelming, but it is very selectively curated, and worth the time to examine. I appreciate the staff, who are helpful but never intrusive or overbearing. They allow customers to browse at length. There are unique and beautiful matted prints buried in all that available art! I have quite a few unique and stunning pieces from this shop, and I recommend it to all guests and visitors!

Yelp
Great gallery, filled with a wealth of excellent Hawaiian art. I had heard about this place from a friend, so decided to go on a recent trip. The art here is definitely not your typical cheesy tourist junk made for mass production. If I could have a home in Hawaii, this shop would be a definite resource for art to fill the place ... some lovely pieces whether koa wood, feather masks, jewelry, photos and paintings. Also the staff was very helpful: knowledgable about the art, with the lovely personality and aloha that one can find only in Hawaii.

Chris L.

Yelp
Selling lava? Really? You claim it was blessed so it can leave the island? Wrong. Pele is not to be messed with. The lava stays on the island, don't mess with it. Do not shop in this store. They have no respect for Hawaii. We went shopping here earlier this year and I was shocked to see them selling lava for tourists to take home. Yelp contacted me that my review was removed by the request of the store owners. So I had to repost. DO NOT SHOP HERE.

Yelp
This is my "go to" Gallery for the best Local Art on the island. Owner, Maria Brick has a discerning eye and gracious spirit. Her staff are always knowledgeable and friendly. DA BEST!

Yelp
Maybe because we were locals but the staff just kind of looked at us and didn't say much. Wasn't too impressed with their items either.

Yelp
Wonderful gem filled with art, jewelry, treasures and souvenirs from around the world located right here in tiny Waimea. We were surprised to find so many prints from two of our favorite printmaking artists here. Their selection runs the range of affordable to very expensive so something for everyone. This place is a must for anyone looking to gift others uniquely or treat yourself.

Yelp
A wonderful place for the finest handcrafted items and art of all types. A must-stop for quality local crafts, and convenient to lunch at Merriman's. I make it a point to visit each time I come to the Big Island (from Honolulu) and have been doing so for more than 20 years. Never fail to find new and interesting treasures.

Yelp
I work at the Gallery of Great Things and I admit, I'm one of their best customers! What I love best is the variety and range of prices. There really is something for everyone. I love helping people find just the perfect item and am happy to search through everything till we find just the thing. There are two other wonderful things: Every time I come in (I usually work one day a week), I find something new! And best of all, it feels very peaceful in the Gallery. Come see me on a Tuesday & ask for Tootsie! (I also speak German & Italian.)

Beccky T.

Yelp
A must see! On your way through Waimea, DO stop at this place and check it out. There is SO much beautiful pieces of art big and small to feast on!

Yelp
I was at the Gallery of Great Things in October 2014. It was like visiting a museum except you could see the items up close. I loved the quality of the items and the knowledge of the person I talked with. No cheesy souvenir stuff. I love wood and items made of wood. If you are a wood lover, this shop is a must for you. I could have filled my arms with the most gorgeous and various wood items. I have to be glad I was on a plane. If I lived there, there is a wooden bowl that would grace my home. (Might have to get a second job to pay for it but it would be worth it.)
