Was looking forward to my visit and wondered if Gamba should be part of my future collecting plans. For this visit, the two of us were combined with large group that arrived just ahead of us. With limited seating, it was SRO, but we didn’t mind. The host had nearly enough tulip glasses, which are great for tasting Zinfandels. Arriving after the larger part of our combined group, we were happy enough to use narrower Bordeaux style glasses, although I can’t be certain that we didn’t miss something. The host focused on the simple question of whether or not we liked each wine as the main thrust of the tasting, and so we held our own sidebar discussion of each wine as we covered the five S’s. As a group, we also learned the history of the vineyard and the family that owns it. As a bonus tasting, we also tried the separate wine that is the product of the host (but not a Gamba wine). All in all it was pretty good.
