Masterpiece! Beautiful monastery on top of the mountain! Great to have a short walk around the monastery (3km) to see the valley. There’s a restaurant with affordable price and tasty sweet tea that you can have lunch. Toilet is a bit tricky so better to plan your trip without visiting toilet… It was very hot but windy when we did the hike so recommend to bring pocari water to drink to avoid dehydration especially for high mountain sickness and put more layers especially wind-proof clothing. Guide said half of the monastery was destroyed during Cultural Revolution so what we see is just half of it. At Golden time, there were 4k monks staying at the monastery and now it is 700… And they are adding more new buildings including a police station next to the monastery. How sad is that…

Big and beautiful monastery at the mountain top (elevation more than 4300m). It’s about 70km from Lhasa City centre, and well worth the visit

I love the way to go to Ganden Monastery. The view is really great. It is a good start to getting well with acute mountain and avoid the sickness with 1 day trip to Ganden to challenge yourself at 4,800m and then come back to Lhasa at 3,600m before taking any higher location

Beautiful. This is what is looked like in 2007. The child followed me around for a bit as I recall. I am not sure what he wanted but he was friendly as was everyone else.

The most impressive sight to have visited. The monastery lies perfectly hidden behind the mountain and has a beautiful kora you can walk. Sky burials take place here which is special to see. Actually witnessing it is limited to local people though. The path of the kora will lead you around the mountain and give you photo worthy views on the surroundings.

A must see Gelug-pa sect monastery located in south east of Lhasa.
