Gandhi Restaurant & Catering in Little India offers a down-to-earth dining experience that immediately feels authentic to the neighborhood. Located right in the heart of the busy district, it’s convenient if you’re exploring the area and want to grab a quick bite of South Asian comfort food. We ordered two portions of kottu, which were served fairly quickly. Flavor-wise, the dish was decent: spiced with curry notes, hearty and filling, with chopped bread and vegetables giving it the classic texture one would expect. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring you leave satisfied, and the prices are affordable to mid-range, making it attractive for those looking for a budget-friendly option. However, during our visit we couldn’t help but notice some hygiene concerns. The dining area was bustling with customers and certainly lively, but it lacked a sense of cleanliness and care. The food presentation was straightforward, almost functional, rather than appealing. While that doesn’t ruin the meal, it does raise slight hesitation for anyone who is more sensitive about hygiene standards. Overall, Gandhi Restaurant & Catering is a place for straightforward, no-frills dining. It delivers authentic taste at fair prices, but don’t expect polished surroundings. If you value atmosphere and spotless presentation, you might prefer alternatives nearby. For a casual and affordable stop, though, it works fine—with some reservations.

Absolutely loved the food and service at this banana leaf shop! The flavors were rich, authentic, and truly satisfying — you can tell a lot of care goes into every dish. There’s a great variety to choose from, and everything we tried was delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Just a tip: go early, because the food is so popular that many items sell out quickly — a true sign of how good it is!

Local hotspot for banana leaf veg rice - Its halal and servers are very friendly and the boss also. An authentic malaysian-tamil style banana leaf veg rice. Chicken 65 is a must try although it could be crispier. Price is so affordable as you can see on the menu! Curry and rasam are all tasted palatable, vegetables are decent - i prefer the stronger taste like in malaysia and their tamil origin. Papadam are free flow which is great and ending the meal with teh tarik kurang manis (hot) simply is a cherry on top. This hits different when breakfasting - thank you for the meal!

Always clean your banana leaves before they serve you. It's good to have such a meal once in a while. Very affordable compared to many places. Since it is a legendary restaurant and took over by a new owner. It's definitely much cleaner than before. Well done.

Reflecting back on that memorable visit to "Gandhi" Indian restaurant 12 years ago fills me with nostalgia and a craving for those delectable flavors. The inviting ambiance, with its classic Indian charm, set the stage for a culinary journey unlike any other. The sight of dishes served on banana leaves, the rich aroma of various curries, and the vibrant colors of the spices all contributed to a feast for the senses. Despite not being accustomed to eating with my hands like most guests, the flavors of the food transcended any cultural barriers and left a lasting impression on my taste buds. Each curry dish offered a unique blend of spices that left me feeling satisfied, content, and ultimately happy. As I reminisce about that experience, I realize that "Gandhi" truly lives up to its name, embodying the greatness of the Indian hero it is named after. This restaurant in Singapore has become a must-visit destination for me on every trip, a culinary pilgrimage that promises quality, affordability, and above all, unforgettable taste.

Had lunch here some time back and ordered the famous onion chicken and chicken 65. This was my second visit, the first being 13 years ago... Anyway, the meal is just alright. The flavours are nothing to shout about. The curry and vegetables are all rather average. The main draw here is the sizeable portion of rice and the included refills of rice and vegetables. And for that, the fixed price is very fair. That said, is this novelty enough to warrant a special visit? Perhaps not. Given that it's in little India, where there are so many other restaurants and good eats, I'd reckon you can find a rice meal just as good if not much better in terms of flavour. Anyway, Gandhi restaurant is an institution, and it will have its old-timers and foreign visitors. The ultimate test here is how long the restaurant can sustain the increasing price levels as that will inevitably erode the novelty - of it being a once famous restaurant and of the rice and veg refills - as time passes.

First time here. The food is very tasty and delicious 😋. My favourites are the mutton curry and cauliflower. Friendly staff and fast service. Pretty crowded during lunch time.

Went there around 9 pm , and was pleased to know they were still open ( closed at 11 pm.) . Food was great , had the banana leaf set and shared mutton curry and other dishes with friends. Quick service. Not many people at that time so we had the place to ourselves. Heard about this place years ago so I was glad to finally try it. Highly recommended.
