Gao Qunsheng's

I ordered the spicy pepper soup and soy milk to go. The soy milk was dense yet smooth. The spicy soup was quite starchy — not my favorite style — but it had rich ingredients. The restaurant is very clean and looks new.

If you want to try authentic Henan street food, Gao Qun Sheng Hu La Tang is a must-visit. Their Hu La Tang (spicy pepper soup) is rich, flavorful, and packed with ingredients like tofu skin, beef, vegetables, and chewy noodles. The soup has a deep peppery aroma and a comforting warmth that’s perfect for breakfast or a cold day. Everything tastes very traditional and homemade, just like the kind you would find at local morning markets in Henan. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. It’s simple, fast, and incredibly satisfying — the kind of place locals go to regularly. If you want to experience real local flavor instead of tourist food, this is definitely worth trying.

Overall, the flavor was decent. However, when I visited, the staff didn’t seem fully familiar with the workflow yet. The pace for online orders and pickup felt quite slow, and the line moved gradually, with packing taking longer than expected. Also, all of the pastry and dough-based items were quite oily. They almost felt like they had been rolled in oil. It would be nice if the oil level could be moderated a bit, as a lighter touch would make them more enjoyable. That said, I’m still looking forward to trying their soup noodles. I saw someone order the lamb stewed noodle soup that day, and it looked beautiful and appetizing.

Back in my hometown, spicy soup is everywhere. I went out of my way to get some yesterday, but it was honestly pretty awful. The steamed buns were bad too. The only thing that was decent was the little fried dough sticks.

Everything is good. Take out only I believe.

damn it's good - worth the line

This place was just okay overall. I came on a Sunday evening and it wasn’t crowded at all. The ordering process is pretty straightforward, you order upfront, get tickets, hand them to the workers behind the counter, and they prepare everything fresh on the spot. You can sit wherever you like. Service was quick and the staff were friendly. That said, the food was pretty average in my opinion. I was especially excited to try the spicy Henan soup, but even though it was served from a steaming pot, it came out lukewarm and the flavor didn’t stand out. The fried items were also nothing memorable. The highlights were the steamed buns, spicy beef noodle soup, lamb noodle soup, both had solid flavor and were definitely the best dishes we tried. Overall, it feels like a “try it once” kind of spot. On the bright side, the prices are affordable for Flushing, which makes it a bit more worth checking out.
