My friends and I were trying to decide where to eat and they recommended Garage on Beck. Since we all live in Utah County, it was a bit of a drive but definitely worth it. I feel like Garage on Beck is a bit secluded, which may be why I haven't been before, or didn't even really know it existed. I didn't hang around outside but it seems like it's in a slightly sketchy area; I am pretty sure there was a strip club close by.
Anyhoo, we get there. Parking is weird. It's similar to offroading, it's one way and bumpy, except we're in a Honda Accord. When we left, we had to pop off the curb--there was no indent in the curb for departure. It's kinda scary but I wasn't driving, it wasn't my car, and I drive a Jeep so this wouldn't affect me but I still feel it's important to note for those that may not know.
The vibes in Garage on Beck are there. I have absolutely no idea what vibe they are going for...maybe mechanic shop owned by a biker while simultaneously having a yard sale...in a cool way. The inside was neat, kinda like a small town bar, and they were playing bingo. My friends didn't want to play bingo so I missed out on that but it looked fun. We sat outside and man...they really have a super cool outside area. It is massive, with so much seating, and it is so fun to look around at all the trinkets and gadgets they've set up everywhere. They also have trees, which are pretty, eco-friendly, and provide shade. They strung lights around the trees, which really adds another element. I love it! The one slight downfall to this is that we were in the back corner of the outside area and I think it's easy to forget about us when we're way yonder.
Garage on Beck specializes in traditional American cuisine but they do have a wide variety of options to choose from. They have salads, sandwiches, burgers, and other entrees to choose from that definitely scream red, white and blue. When there is such a variety to choose from, I find that I have a hard time deciding exactly what I want.
So for our appetizer, we got the Mormon Funeral Potatoes to share. I would order these a million times over again, they were absolutely delicious. If I was going to recommend a "must order" while you're at Garage on Beck, it would definitely be these. They came with a side of ranch, which really sealed the deal. Chef's kiss, chef's kiss.
We also got the sludge fries, which were good too. They seemed a bit dry and a little bit over cooked, but they were still good. They were much better when we dipped them in some sauce.
For my entree, I got the smoked meatloaf. It was okay but I don't think I would order it again. It had a large emphasis on the "smoke" and tasted very smokey, which was just not something I was expecting with meatloaf. I mean, I understand that's in the name but the smokey flavor was just more than I was expecting. The green beans were delicious--probably my favorite part of the dish, as they tasted fresh and seemed to have a garlic butter over the top of them to really seal the deal. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good. I liked them more than the meatloaf and the gravy over the top was decent, but a bit peppery.
For dessert, we got the bread pudding and the brownie. These two dessert dishes have become a bit habitual for my friends and I on our outings. The bread pudding didn't slap for me as much as my friends thought it did, but I did really enjoy the brownie. I love that they both came in their own little skillet with ice cream.
Garage on Beck hosted an awesome dinner for my friend group. We really enjoyed our visit and I would love to go back for the mormon potatoes and to try some more things on their menu. I need to go on a Monday night again so I can crush everyone in bingo!
