A first class meal, good portions. The drinks were reasonably priced as well. The service staff were polite and friendly.

Fondly remember this place from years ago now- excellent food - especially the black pudding scotch egg and Korean bbq pork, but I also remember having ox cheek here that was incredible.

Great cosy and welcoming pub! Park just opposite for free in the evening, or near now closed DLI for free. Very stylish decoration, giving new life to the vintage furniture, yet not looking shabby. The staff is very helpful. Can make you your favourite drinks, alcoholic or just very good quality tea. Haven't tried food yet, but I shall soon. Love this place!

We booked a table thinking it'd be so busy, unfortunately we were the only couple in the restaurant area. The staff were friendly & attentive, the pizzas were tasty albeit a tad expensive. The menu only offered pizza, had we realised that before our visit we probably would have chosen elsewhere. The chairs are are little uncomfortable as they've no pads/ padding. Will we visit again? Mmm, maybe? If a more varied menu is on offer & maybe some quiet music in the background to give a better ambience.

Nice decor but lacked atmosphere we went for sunday lunch and it was very quiet - but the food took ages to come (I think about 45 minutes) - not sure why. We asked for children's meals to come quickly - they didn't. Never asked if we wanted puddings. Some of the food was v good (steak pie and parmo), the rib of beef was very fatty. The portions of mashed potato were variable - looked like they were running out!Somewhat disappointing.

Food was ok, we were there for a Christmas meal and our party was split across two very cramped tables while another group had a lovely long table, which was a little annoying. Soup was vile and flavours completely unidentifiable- everybody at our table ended up leaving it uneaten (which for some reason didn't even warrant a query from the waiter)- while the rest of the food was ok, but a little pretentious with relatively little substance. Overall though, the service was decent and the waiter friendly, although it was hard to serve our food with us so cramped up. Parking was very very crowded and difficult to get to- I think next time we'd just park on the street and pay rather than try and squeeze into the tiny carpark. Generally though, I think if you avoid special occasions/busy periods it might be a pleasant place to visit once in a while.

Great pub in Durham with lots quirky old furniture and decor. We went there for Sunday Lunch and weren't disappointed. The roast beef literally fell apart on your plate. It was served with lots of tasty vegetables, Yorkshire Pudding and lovely gravy. The sticky toffee for dessert was without doubt the best I've ever had. Highly recommended and good value.

This place is the quintessential charming English Bed and breakfast . The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a short walk into town and even shorter walk to the train station. I really enjoyed my stay here.

Yelp
Without a doubt best BnB in Durham! What a wonderful place! What a fair price! I found this by chance on the way to Edinburgh and it was my best stay in the UK. I ended up staying 2 nights because the the people, the accommodations and restaurant/pub have a great family feel. Plus the historic quality you cannot get in the States. Will definitely return and tell everyone.
