21 Best Things to Do in the Bahamas

"A botanical garden on Grand Bahama Island with trails, a labyrinth, waterfalls, fountains, and a hilltop chapel; visitors can expect to see both indigenous and migratory birds and butterflies in a rainbow of colors and "enjoy breakfast, lunch, or a snack break overlooking the waterfalls at their cafe." - Skye Sherman Skye Sherman Skye Sherman is a travel writer based in West Palm Beach, Florida. I went here as a Norwegian excursion. I was hoping for one that would show some of the island, it's history, and be guided by locals. I'm so glad I picked this one. The bus driver gave us a history lesson and showed some of the important buildings while he drove us from the port to the Garden. Once there, we were greeted by a very friendly, funny, and enthusiastic guide. She gave a 45 minute tour of the gardens and told us it's history. We stopped at the small straw market where we had an hour to shop, eat and look around, before making our way back to the bus. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The guide, shopkeepers, and bar tender were all kind. I highly recommend this experience.

It was pretty not a lot of people Guess it was on offseason which was great. The animals were nice to look at and the spiders were pretty cool and I love the turtles and the weird chickens. The waterfalls were pretty but the water was a little muddy or dirty looking. Other than that it was a good experience.

Interesting and informative, plenty to see and more to learn of the area than assumed. We also rode atv's from this location and had a blast with them as well. Completely have my reference.

Such a lovely, tranquil place!! It's so quiet and relaxing, the gardens are beautiful and the people are so friendly! There are ducks and turtles and fish everywhere in the ponds, and the cafe was great for lunch! The meditation labyrinth was very cool, and casually wandering around the paths was a lovely way to spend the afternoon!

Absolutely beautiful! The people were so friendly and inviting, everyone had a smile. Fried conch was really good! The "trail" was paved which made it easier for my mom to walk. There are a few big steps but worth it. Definitely will go back.

Garden of the Groves is a must-visit when you're in Freeport! The scenery is absolutely beautiful—lush, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing or taking pictures. But what really made the visit special was the amazing food and the incredible staff. The food was fresh, flavorful, and way better than we expected for a garden café. Everything tasted homemade and delicious. The employees were so welcoming and kind—they made us feel right at home and took great care of us throughout the visit.

Lots of potential to connect with nature and experience the Bahamian environment. Enjoyed the turtles and birds. Would have loved to see more people there, better cared gardens, engaging cultural activities, more about the history and culture of the Bahamas. The garden's staff and kiosk owners were kind and helpful, beautiful people with lots of knowledge to share. There was a stray dog who followed us through some of the aquaphonics part of the trails (this part of the park seemed a little unkept). It was a little unsettling since the dog seemed to be very thirsty and we didn't see any collar or potential owner nearby.

It's a lovely diversion from spending the day in Port. Definitely worth seeing if you're a fan of tropical flora. Relaxing waterfalls trickle near ancient trees. Flowers everywhere....even beautiful during the off season! $17 entrance fee. Bathrooms on site. Guided tour extra. Wear good shoes and watch your step! Bring your camera! Overall, a delightful way to remember this beautiful corner of the Bahamas.
