Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day all Month Long at These NYC Bars | Eater

"If you find yourself in Times Square, duck into Garvey’s for an Irish breakfast. It serves the classic all day, and does it right: the platter is complete with black and white pudding, baked beans, sausage, bacon, potatoes, and tomatoes, along with the requisite eggs over easy. For the holiday, Garvey’s has two specials: the Jameson Orange Mule as well as an Old Fashioned made with Jameson." - Lee Musho

We had a great night. The staff at Garveys makes you feel like you’re hanging out with friends. The food is absolutely delicious. My friend and I each had the Irish sausage with fries and a side of curry sauce. These were the best Irish sausage I’ve tasted. My daughter got the chicken with broccoli and potatoes. She said it was out of this world. There was live music that played covers and some original songs. Hoping to go back soon.

For my first meal in NYC, I visited Garvey's Irish Pub near Times Square and chose the Pan Roasted Salmon. The salmon was perfectly cooked, with a delightful lemon and herb flavour, served on a bed of sautéed spinach and creamy mashed potatoes. The refreshing avocado salsa on top added a great touch to the dish. A satisfying and flavourful start to my NYC dining adventures!

I have been a huge fan of this place like you can see my previously updated review and pics however this time I was surprised to see the laid back attitude and over all efforts by the staff there. There were flies everywhere inside the pub. When my order came I was happy to see my fav on the plate but couldn’t eat it as there were flies all over it. When I complained the server changed my sitting thrice but it was of no use. Manager there was extremely rude and said it’s just a New York thing no big deal I mean I paid 45$ for what… never again will I visit this place no matter what. Bad behaviour by the Manager. . However will not delete my pervious review…because they were good once upon a time… . Loved everything here. The server was amazingly polite, helpful and cheerful. Their menu was quite good and full of choices. The whole vibe and atmosphere was good. Food quantity was quite filling and nicely cooked. Loved the place will surely visit again.

Stopped into this Irish pub while exploring Times Square, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the day. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming classic Irish charm with a great buzz that made us feel instantly at home. The food was excellent .Great pint of Guinness (poured right!), and the cocktail menu had some fun surprises, unreal Hugo spritz. What really made it stand out was the staff — super friendly and seemed to enjoy what they do. Even though it was busy, service was fast and personal. If you’re in the area and want a break from tourist traps, this pub is a must-visit. Great food, great drinks, great people.

Google
: Garvies in T Square: A Taste of Ireland in the Heart of NYC Stepping into Garves in Time Square is like being instantly transported to a cozy pub in mayo, even though you're smack-dab in the middle of the bustling Times Square. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and a bit of friendly banter. They create a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The food is classic pub fare, done exceptionally well. From hearty shepherd's pie to perfectly poured pints of Guinness, the menu offers something for everyone. The quality of the ingredients shines through, and the portions are generous. You won't leave hungry, that's for sure! What truly sets Garvies apart is the seamless blend of Irish and American culture. You'll hear traditional Irish music alongside familiar American tunes, and the lively atmosphere encourages everyone to join in the fun. It's a fantastic place to experience the best of both worlds, making it a must-visit spot in Times Square.

Oh, man, this place was great. Astounding menu. Very friendly staff. And the atmosphere is very warm and inviting. Would have loved to hang out all evening. If only we were staying here longer...

Google
Aaron, the bartender, is incredible. I have been here once in my life, and upon arriving a second time, he greets me with a welcome back, and would you like a Captain Morgan and diet coke with a lime? Rock Star, bartenders. Adam is a great bartender 👌.

Yelp
Great service as always. Pearse and Andrew were on the ball serving delicious cocktails to us. This time I remembered to include pics of the food. Not before i put ketchup on the fries (sorry). My friend and I both tried the Irish sausages with fries and curry sauce on the side. I've had Irish sausage at many places all over queens and the Bronx and these were bar far the best we have eaten. My daughter got the chicken with broccoli and fingerling potatoes. She said it was delicious. Believe me, if I try something the chef has made that isn't out of this world I will be completely honest. So far every dish we have ordered had been delicious. Just a great vibe and friendly staff that makes you feel like you've been going to Garveys for years.

Yelp
Definitely a classic pub. The cocktails weren't textbook, but they had a ton of beer on tap, also super nice staff here.

Yelp
This restaurant surpasses logical expectations. This spot balances looks and comfort perfectly. Their staff demonstrated excellent care throughout our visit. Quality dishes served by professional staff. I'll return repeatedly even during busy periods.

Yelp
This is a cute pub located right in the theater district. I came for dinner right before Redwood and it was great. There's live music and the singer was lovely. I got the fried chicken sandwich which came with fries and a pickle. The fries were great and the sandwich was good, but I though the chicken was a tad dry. Service was good although it did take a while for us to get the check despite asking a few times, I guess they were busy that night. Also, if you show the waiter your Broadway ticket you get a small discount!

Yelp
This Irish pub was adjacent to our hotel and, though we didn't travel here for St. Patrick's Day, celebrating over a few brews just seemed like the right thing to do. What a fun evening! The bartenders were exceptionally friendly, despite a packed house of revelers. And I noticed that the manager laid down the law to an older man who brought a young child into the bar and refused to serve him. That's integrity! -- I'm not really a bar guy, unless there is a conference or special occasion, but I would certainly return here for a beer or a nice neat shot of Jameson.

Yelp
I went in when it wasn't too busy, but it was still a really fun atmosphere. This is a great place for a pre-show meal and drink. Also the bartender told me about the Irish mule with Orange Jameson, and it literally changed my life.

Yelp
Granted it was Christmas day, but we ordered 4 different types of beer and everyone was incredibly flat.

Yelp
What a hidden gem this place was. We had a young girl bartender who was an aspiring actress (didn't get her name) who was probably the best bartender I've met in a long time. Full of good energy and super friendly. My friend and I didn't try the food. Very nice Irish pub in Times Square. My only complaint is one bathroom for everyone (unless I missed something)

Yelp
One of the most crisp Guinness in NYC. Poured just right and the moment my cup was ready for a refill, a new one (with a shamrock ) was slid my direction! The food was incredible, had the half roasted chicken. I was told it would take about a half hour to be ready, so the expectation was set. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, veggies were tender but still had a bit of a bite and the mash was creamy and delicious. All of this was, somehow, outshined but the epic tunes of Allen Gogarty. Allan's music was uplifting and invigorating. What a time!! 10/10 will be back; most likely on another night Allen is playing!

Yelp
We stoped at Garvey's for a late night drink and snack as it was only a few doors down from our hotel. Conveniently located in Time Square, greeted by a friendly bartender and Guinness on tap. We were hoping for live music but there wasn't any on the night we went. They also have a great selection of wine and whiskey. Full menu available, but we only had a pretzel and it was okay, definitely didn't taste like. NY fresh pretzel. It was served with cheese, but the table mustard was much better for dipping. We would definitely stop by again to enjoy the drinks, music, easy going atmosphere and the location. Cheers!

Yelp
Great service. We had a burger and a fried chicken sandwich. Both delicious. We received our meal Ms quickly.

Jacob P.

Yelp
Big fan of this place. The staff are chill and mostly Irish, the food is good, the beer cold, and the wait times are manageable (usually). There aren't many independent businesses left in the Times Square area and fewer yet that aren't extremely high end. Highly recommend this place if you happen to be in the area - it's one of the best by a mile.

Yelp
The pub is rather new here. We arrived about 6:30 PM. We were greeted when we walked in, and we're directly seated. Our server came to our table and asked for our drink order. He was very disinterested. It took a few minutes for our draft Guinness to arrive. And the server left without saying a word. He later came back and ask for our dinner order. My wife asked for the Shepherds Pie, and I the Bacon Spinach salad. Again the server left without another word or question. The place was extremely loud with the recorded music very loud. All the patrons were forced to shout to communicate!! And nothing at all suggested an Irish pub!! Our food came again without a word. But the food was delicious!! The pie was great! Very tasteful and perfectly seasoned. The salad was huge and so much bacon. Truly fantastic!! All and all it was good, not not at all like an Irish pub!

Yelp
Stopped here for a few beers before seeing Tommy next door at the Nederlander theatre. Good old school Irish music was cranking, bartenders were very friendly and attentive, I ordered the Chicken club sandwich which was very good. Big crowds came in before the show, great energy, everyone enjoying themselves. Really, what more could you ask for ????

Paul L.

Yelp
Garvey's is a hidden treasure in Times Square. Fresh food combined with live music make for the perfect ambiance to escape the crowds outside. I was impressed by the quality of their service. First Irish Pub I've been to where the staff were actually from Ireland! Looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
This was my wife and I's first visit to NY City together. I won't lie. We were on our way to pizza and happened upon Garvey's Pub and decided to push pizza to lunch the next day and go in for fish and chips (this review is limited to that menu item but really that's the constant at Irish Pubs that really tell me the status of the place). In a word - delicious and satisfying. I paired it with a Montauk IPA (okay 2) but left filling full and with a card should I ever be in NY City again. The food was good, the tunes were good, the service was great and it has an authentic vibe. Do not ask the girl at the desk to the right if it's self seating. She works for the hotel next door and will give you blank stares. Go straight to the bar and you'll find a friendly greeting that is a wonderful precursor to good food and a great experience!

Yelp
Sitting In this bar you would never think you are right smack in touristy times Sq. This bar feels like a neighborhood bar with kind bartenders , great music and great beers on Tap. Oliver is the best!!! He is so sweet and made my night with his friendly conversation on a colds winter night. The musician playing was singing the right songs. I will be back to see Oliver!!

Yelp
If you want to get ignored then cursed out and yelled at in a bar full of people at 5pm just ask this bartender or even better the manager who thinks its funny and disregards it . The male manager has been intrusive sevaral times so ive avoided going when hes on shift but today i had the pleasure of being verbally assaulted by thus big guy , because i asked him if he was ignoring me after i asked for a beer 3-4 times
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
Best experience we had in New York. Oliver may be the best bartender in NY. Drinks were great. Thank you for taking care of us! Would recommend to visit if you are in Times Square.
google avatar

Nadia V.

Yelp
Flew in to NYC and arrived late. Got to Manhattan and walked into Garvey's for last minute drinks. Oliver was our bartender and was super friendly striking a conversation with our group. Oliver is the man! Chill place nearby our hotel to grab drinks.

Yelp
I stopped here after a concert earlier this week. Had a few beers and a pretzel with cheese (which was awesome). Friendly bartender, and I like the music too: it was mostly traditional Irish sing-alongs, but with the occasional Van Halen or Rolling Stones tune to mix things up. What a cool bar. If I lived in New York this might be a regular stop of mine. And I will keep Garvey's in mind next time I'm visiting.

Yelp
Regina made one of the top 3 cosmopolitans our table has ever had! The food was delicious. Service was great and quick.

Yelp
Aaron and Adam are the best bartenders friendly and funny we came here 3 night in a row,, favorite bar because of them..I recommend coming here and we will definitely visit Garvey Irish pub when we in New york again

Yelp
I was in the area and heard about a discount for being a first time customer. Upon approaching the restaurant I could hear a man yelling at a hostess as well as smoking in front. The man went back in with a nasty attitude and I chose not to go in.

Flatts F.

Yelp
Tripped across this gem the other day. Very welcoming. Sat at the bar. Lovely Irish girl at the bar. Had the Irish breakfast- excellent. Saw that they have music 7 nights. Went there the next night- wonderful Had a small criticism with I brought to managers attention. Rectified immediately. In the words of Arnie " I'll be back "

Yelp
Have been a few times and always had a great time. Love the weekly live Irish music. As close to a true Irish pub experience you'll get in NYC.

Erin M.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick bite and drink after a concert. Quick service, good bar food. The live music was a great touch!

Marathon E.

Yelp
Service was quick and easy. Nice irish pub in time square. The lobster roll and old fashion cocktail was great!

Feargal O.

Yelp
Food pretty much inedible. Ambience and atmosphere brutal. Waiter / bartender we had was good but was obviously embarrassed serving us the slop from the kitchen. Probably the worsts bar I've ever been to in NYC. And I've been I a few.

Yelp
A great addition to the Time Square bar/restaurant scene. Such a nice alternative to the huge chain restaurants (Bubba Gump, ESPN Zone, etc). This quaint Irish pub is exactly what you'd expect...good food, reasonable prices (for Manhattan), friendly service from several Ireland natives, and solid drinks. We took five teenagers there and they left full, which is an accomplishment. Location is perfect for pre- or post-theater. I highly recommend "Steve's blackened chicken sandwich" where the highlight is the chicken and not all the "stuff" other places put on it. Great flavor! This place will be around for a long time!
google avatar

Peyton C.

Yelp
Smoked bacon appetizer was awesome! Best onion rings in Times Square. Perfect hangout joint to hoist a few.

Nancy H.

Yelp
Excellent food, convenience location, music and ambience and great staff. We'll be back!!

Tim D.

Yelp
I came to Garvey's on the recommendation of a friend. I was NOT disappointed! I sat at the bar to eat. The bartender that night was named Alan, and he was terrific. The Shepard's Pie was as good as I have ever had in NYC. Alan kept pouring the new Guinness pint, so that the new one was up, just as I finished the last. Even though this place is in the middle of Times Square, it felt like a neighborhood bar. The bartender kept the conversations going with all the customers at the bar, which eventually led to everyone talking to each other. Was really a great experience, and I will be back the next time I am in the city.

R G.

Yelp
Great surprise. We ordered the Beef Stew and Shepherds Pie. Both were large portions of fantastic Irish comfort foods. If you have a larger appetite, they offer a $45 special of salad, entree, and dessert. We didn't order cocktails but the have a fully stocked bar as well. Highly recommend.

Pika P.

Yelp
I highly recommend Garvey's! What a great atmosphere and the live music was a bonus! They have a pretty decent beer selection. Anna wipped us up a few delicious cocktails, we tried their specialty, Graces Bliss, and she made the best Dirty Martini I have ever tasted with huge pitted olives that were yummy. I will be making this one of my regular after work hangouts. 5* all round.

Jamie W.

Yelp
Alan was the most incredible bartender. He made my entire 2024. 100% 10/10 recommend for experiencing Alan and the incredible service. Such a quality human.

Monica C.

Yelp
We had a lovely evening at Garvey's after seeing a broadway show. Our bartender, Anne-Marie made refreshing libations and helped us select tasty dishes from the menu for us to eat for dinner.

Laura M.

Yelp
Garvey's is the place to be! We recently took a group to NYC and every night after our group settled in their rooms, the company staff would go grab a drink at the pub next to our hotel, Garvey's. Alan (or Allen) took care of us the whole week! He was a blast and his service was excellent. The drinks are great and the food was fantastic. 100% recommend checking it out, if not for anything but the sharp wit of the myth, the legend, ALAN!!! :) I will be back, you can count on it!
