Garwoods in Wolfeboro has made an impressive comeback under new management. The revamped menu is excellent—fresh oysters, rich fish dip, and crispy truffle fries with garlic aioli were all highlights. The fish and chips and chicken tenders both featured an incredible batter that was light, perfectly crunchy, and full of flavor. Juan, the new manager, truly made the experience special. He was warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great evening. With standout food and exceptional hospitality, Garwoods is absolutely worth a visit. It’s clear the new team is raising the bar.

Stopped by after reading good reviews. What a gorgeous location. We sat on the lower deck outside. The view can’t be beat ! My hot honey chicken sandwich was absolutely delicious. My daughter had the tenders which were hand battered and golden brown. My hubby had a burger and loved it. Only complaint is the slice of cheese on the burger was $2.00 and the slice of bacon was $3.50 and it was $4 to sub the chips for fries. Service was wonderful and we hope to come back someday !

Delicious! We went today with our young daughter and enjoyed our experience. The staff were nice, the views were great. Bathroom and restaurant were very clean. My husband got fish and chips and he loved it. My daughter, a toddler, had a quesadilla. They have high chairs and also small cups with straws. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich. It was very good but very spicy. I probably wont order it next time just because of how spicy it was but the overall taste was nice and fresh. Highly recommend.

Typical Rainy weekend at the lake. Decided to make the best of it take my adult children out. Went to Garwoods. Ordered a couple nice coffee drinks . Then had an old fashioned . After the next Cosmo . We decided to hit the good stuffs 12 year Van Winkle and some 10 year Rip Van Winkle ( Excellent ) it was time for a much needed appetizer . Chicken fingers . My daughter noticed a very large hair in her finger . That we didn’t order. Most places would have been horrified . Especially under new ownership. Instead !!! They made one new chicken finger. Put it in a box the preceded to charge us for the new sauce. Really Disgusted & and disgusting.

Great dinner overlooking lake Sat outside on the downstairs deck - wonderful lake view on relaxing early evening. Shared the Caesar salad and 5-spice salmon entree - delicious and lite. Penny Island cocktail was their version of a Vodka mule. Delicious! Wine selection was good too. Service was terrific by server, “Aedan”, and our busser “Kenzie”. Both made the dinner fun - friendly conversation and prompt service. Will return and would recommend!

Google
The food was decent, the staff was great, my biggest complaint was the price for what we got was a little steep compared to other places. It was good food, but I can't say it was worth it. I'm not really sure how they make their hot chocolate, but my kids couldn't drink it, they said it was gross, and I couldn't drink it either. We did also go on a holiday night so they were pretty busy. I understand things can get crazy so I'm not going to hold it against them. The atmosphere, though boisterous because it was New Years, was great, open and friendly, and the entire restaurant joined in to sing someone happy birthday.

Google
It was the only option open on the Monday following the 4th of July. This resulted in some items being unavailable as they were very busy; however, we were seated right away. Our seat was on the deck almost level with the lake. We had a beautiful view. Our server was awesome! She knew the menu in detail and provided honest input. Wine and beer were good although my Malbec pours were a tad short. Appetizers, pasta and burger that we had were all excellent. Definitely recommend it!

Google
The view, the food, the service, all wonderful. Very accommodating also, as I required handicap access. They have a nifty lift for people who require accessibility. Another awesome lunch at Garwood's!

Yelp
The man from the bookstore across the street recommended this spot for us when we asked him about a "good bite on the water". He did not steer us wrong. We weren't starving but licked our plates clean anyway. We started with the French onion soup (even though it was probably 80° with the sun beating down on us). The soup was phenomenal. My boyfriend got the fish tacos and said they were awesome, he just wished they came with 3 instead of 2. The homemade potato chips were a nice touch on the side. I got the butternut ravioli salad and added grilled chicken to it. This was SO good. The salad was refreshing but also hearty, perfect amount of dressing, fresh ingredients, and seasonal with the ravioli on top. The outdoor seating overlooking the lake was so relaxing and we overheard the tables next to us talking about how much they and their families love the restaurant as well. Hannah was our server and was super attentive and nice. One thing to note is we overheard them talking about the restaurant closing after Halloween and reopening in July (I believe). Seems like this is the first time they're doing a lengthy closing, and the locals next to us had no idea, so just call to check that they're open if you're looking to visit!

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Went with the girls and it was great! The server was amazing! The machines went down twice when we needed to pay but she quickly got it through before it happened again! Perfect outdoor setting on the lake made for a wonderful setting to have lunch. I had the cheesesteak and it was so delicious! Others had the quesadillas, which looked amazing as well, and the chicken entree which was super tender and delicious! Would definitely visit again!

Yelp
Lovely view. Efficient, friendly server (thanks Sarah). Tried something different this time - two appetisers: crabcakes and nachos with guacamole. Both were very good and both gluten free. Could do with a bit more heat like jalapeños in the nachos but flavour was good. Crabcakes stuffed with crab and not filler.

Don H.

Yelp
Nice patio, but we sat for 40 minutes after ordering drinks.. Left and nobody noticed

Maria C.

Yelp
Avocado shrimp salad was horrible, brown avocado and 4 shrimp. Bartender was absolutely wasted. Such a nice location but an absolute S*** show.

Jewels G.

Yelp
Get there early and sit out side! Friendly staff, very busy and the food and drinks were good. Try the Lake Winni Sunrise and fish & chips it comes in a small size.

Harald Z.

Yelp
I'll start with the good. The servers were friendly and timely. The drinks were good and strong. However not strong enough to make the food edible. My baked cod came out of a bag in the frozen food isle and was microwaved for sure. The capers were grey and the sauce was, well I'm not sure what that was supposed to be. Everything was completely dry. I only took half a bite and still my stomach hurt on the way home. And I was the lucky one. My daughter's chicken tasted like fish and she got a nosebleed on the ride home. My mother in law ate some of her French onion soup, my wife ate half of an oddly shaped piece of fish that was atop of her taco. The guacamole came out a bag, there was some dry cabbage, no cilantro, no salsa. It was pretty god awful. The pot stickers were slimy and tasted rubbery. They both had to run into the bathroom of gas station twenty minute later. I've never written a review in my life and I am very easy going and forgiving when it comes to bars and restaurants. But whatever is going on this kitchen is making people sick and you are charging real prices for frozen food and fish while overlooking a lake. It felt very ironic.

Yelp
GET A WINDOW SEAT I've been meaning to write this review for awhile. We stopped in at the beginning of the year. Sparsely occupied because of covid. Nicely decorated. Warmly greeted. Seated by the window overlooking Wolfeboro Bay. Trifecta: Great service, tasty food, and great view.

Kevin D.

Yelp
Excellent food with great service and atmosphere. The view here is great, looks down the lake with tons of boat traffic.

Low B.

Yelp
Friendly staff, incredible Bloody Mary, magnificent blue cheese burger cooked to absolute perfection. And a nice view!

CJ M.

Yelp
Higher priced restaurant in downtown Wolfeboro, but you're paying for the view and the ambiance. Crab cake sandwich and chicken quesadillas are our families favorites. Our go-to almost every time we come up to visit!

William S.

Yelp
Oh Garwoods! Best location in town. Beautiful restaurant. Nice addition to the decks. Good service, acceptable (not great) food. My problem right now is they cut back of a third (or more) of their menu. Which means a lot less options for folks. Last time there I got chowder and potstickers. Not that great. My wife got a salad that she could get at the Market Basket togo counter. My daughter said the Caesar Salad was very good. The burger is good but it's not on the menu. 5 spice salmon is also decent.

R B.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere...Food was decent not great ...The bartender needs to learn how to make a drink. Margarita was all sour mix undrinkable and other drinks very weak. Switch to beer after round. Nice places should be able to make a decent drink.

Mike M.

Yelp
Said it was open but locked up tight. Can't give a fair review. Maybe next time. Thanks

Kathy L.

Yelp
Perfect location. Extremely disappointed sign says "do not feed the ducks" and the waitresses were dumping leftover drinks into the lake. Bizarre. Fish was yummy flavor but overcook & dry. Burger was yummy. Service was blah. Expensive.

Gavin B.

Yelp
We had a great dinner in a beautiful location. Everyone was very friendly and the service was fast despite it being a busy July 4 weekend night! At the end of the night I left my sunglasses there accidentally. The manager there mailed in back to me in Massachusetts and paid for the shipping! This place is truly amazing. Go now!

Laura S.

Yelp
My husband and I walked in and sat at the bar. We waited 15 minutes before the bartender gave us a menu. Did not even say hi to us. We waited another 10 minutes and we left. It wasn't even packed. Service was horrible and not friendly whatsoever. Not worth the time and money.

Amanda M.

Yelp
What a beautiful place with a yummy menu! We stopped here on our way home from our Lake Winnipesaukee weekend and weren't disappointed. We ate outside and it was a little windy and chilly (Labor Day weekend ) but the view was really pretty. We ate some oysters, a steak and cheese sandwich and fish and chips - everything was delicious! We felt clean and safe during covid and our waiter was kind. Definitely recommend!!

Jessica G.

Yelp
Very pleased with their food! I believe the best calamari I've ever had and their Cod was cooked perfectly with their fish and chips. Tasted like the freshest of these items I've had anywhere. Topped off with a couple of Guinness and I'm very satisfied. It's a bit on the pricey side, but I'd say worth every bite!

Kathy A.

Yelp
Ordered the Buffalo chicken tender appetizer. I'm pretty sure it was frozen Tyson chicken. A little too uniform. Gross.

JG L.

Yelp
We went tonight, party of 5. Service was really off. The waitress was training someone but drink refills never came, items were forgotten. It wasn't busy at all. Items we ordered 1. French Onion Soup - it was just ok. The broth was not flavorful at all, there was nothing much of a crouton and just barely a floater of cheese. 2. Two burgers were good, no issues 3. Fish tacos were good no issue 4. Two orders of fish and chips - fish want fresh, and the cuts were weird cylindrical pieces which were very firm and not flaky. All diners complained the fries were limp, underdone and a couple of dishes as well as the fries were just not hot at all.

Meghan P.

Yelp
Place was better than I expected! Food was tasty, place was spotless, waitress was one of the best around, and the views were great. Definitely returning!

Sudha S.

Yelp
Hands down the best meal we have had in a while. They really cannot go wrong with any item on their menu! I tried the portobello mushroom sandwich- hearty flavorful filling, lovely naan bread and perfect portions. Husband loved their surf and turf-came with a good sized crab cake, steak, mashed potatoes and veggies. Do try their crab cakes! Their tiramisu was perfect! It is not easy to come across a perfect tiramisu and this place has nailed it. I also had the Moscow mule which had a good level of alcohol and went really well with my meal

Claire D.

Yelp
Inside seating is nice but If you get a seat outside it's even better! The food was great, our waitress was really cool and desert was awesome.

John S.

Yelp
We hadn't been here for a few years, but went recently for lunch on a sunny July day. The hostess was pleasant and accommodated our request to sit outside on the water. Our server was prompt, thorough and helpful ("be careful not to step on duck poop"). And yes, we enjoyed the hen duck that was visiting tables. Our food was excellent: heaping plate of traditional nachos, grilled salmon sandwich, and seared tuna tacos. All in all a very pleasant stay.

Jimi R.

Yelp
Tonight was a lets try somewhere we haven't eaten before night, and as we love dining on Lake Winnipausaukee, we chose Garwoods. When we arrived, we were surprised that there were tables on the deck available, as it is a friday night around 6:30. To say the views here were better than expected, is an understatement My wife started with their lobster bisque and I chose the clam chowder. It was just a typical chowder to me, but thats not really a bad thing, as most restaurants in this area have better than average chowders. My wife loved her bisque though, and said she'd order it again. As we aren't big eaters these days, we both had salads for dinner. My wife had the butternut squash ravioli salad and she thoroughly enjoyed it. I chose the Shrimp and Avocado salad and although this dish was not something I'd normally order, I loved it. I see other reviews mention the prices and yes it was a bit pricey, but the whole experience here was well worth it.

Marc B.

Yelp
Garwoods rocks. They have 3 slips in the back where you can pull in, step off and roll into the restaurant. They added a second upper deck which provides just about the nicest view from any restaurant on the lake. The food is consistently very good. My wife and I will be heading over for our last order of fish and chips before we take the boat out for the winter. Thier F & C's is the best anywhere. I can't believe those who complain about the abreviated menu. It is a miracle the place survived the pandemic closures. I have been a huge fan of this place for 20 years. It consistently delivers an excellent meal. Not perfect. But damn good.

Clark H.

Yelp
Food was great. Salads and good selection. So was service. Beer list is nice and the view of the lake is great.

Wayne W.

Yelp
Nice inside with some seating down below on the water however the menu is very limited

Chris S.

Yelp
Just ok. Nothing bad, nothing great. Went on a Saturday in April around lunchtime. He waitress was very busy, I think there were only 2 covering the whole dining room. She apologized for taking so long to get to us, and we could see they were short staffed. I ordered chowder and salad with salmon. My husband had a steak and cheese with a side of veggies. Everything was ok - not bad, but not outstanding. I'd say he highlight of my meal was the chowder. Not sure we'll be back.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Love this place - great ambience, view, and really solid food! If you're seated inside, feels like you're in a ship. Really cute spot in Wolfboro. I will say the buffalo chicken tenders were probably the best I've ever had in my life!!! Everything is great - the ahi tuna tacos were tasty (obviously not the most authentic tacos I've ever had in my life but healthy and very satiating). The five-spice salmon salad was excellent.

Baxter G.

Yelp
Love this restaurant! My fish and chips were great and my beer was ice cold!! The staff was friendly and nice to talk to. If your up at the lake, you got to come sit out on the deck on a warm day!

Cora W.

Yelp
Two stars because the best thing about this place is the view. the food was terrible. Fried fish sandwich that was so overcooked it was like a eating a brick. Butternut ravioli that were obviously frozen on a bed of wilted lettuce. I've had better Potstickers out of the freezer aisle at Walmart. They did have a tasty fruit infused tequila we enjoyed, and the bartender was pleasant enough. Go here for drinks and the view, save your money and don't order food.

Lance C.

Yelp
So, after an extended wait for seating, was rewarded with an extended wait for food. Calimari was pretty bland and the breading was greasy and did not stick to the meat at all. Lobster roll. $30 for that? Got a ton better one on the MS Mount Washington for $15. This one was miserable. Not dressed at all, meat was cold and bun was not crispy. Fries were pathetic. Only positive was they took it off the bill after I sent it back with one bite gone. (My wife said it was the first time she has seen me send back food and that is over 15 years.) Color me sad.

Jesse D.

Yelp
Made a reservation at 730. Got right in. Server was nice but didn't ask once how any of the food was! Kinda strange considering you are in the food business. She disappeared after our soup and salad was served. Never saw her again until she cleared our dinner plates and dropped the check. Paid $20 for a whistle pig old fashion and $40 for an over cooked filet when we ordered rare and got medium ( would've given them a chance to make it right, but again, our server never asked us how our meal was) Maybe your cooks should use thermometers. Attention to detail was very lacking! My wife and I have a combined restaurant experience of 40 years. I would love to talk to the owner about how to make the experience for their guests a lot better. Thank you

Heather R.

Yelp
If you want a nice view and a good bar drink go here. If you want good food go elsewhere. Fish tacos smell funny and have basically fish and chips cod piece on a flour tortilla. Lobster roll wickedly overpriced for meat amount. And worst is that soft drinks charge for refills!!!

Ed C.

Yelp
If you look at my review history, you will see very few poor reviews. I usually give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and say nothing if I encounter a problem. This visit is an exception. As you can see from my posted photo, Garwoods has a beautiful location on the lake. My meal at my previous visit was OK so I was looking forward to this visit. One special this day was blackened monkfish tacos. This sounded great and I looked forward to trying them. I took the first bite and ended up with a mouthful of a blubbery, fatty goo. I spit it out and could not even cut it with a serrated knife. The taco was filled with this nastiness. It turns out that in order to prepare monkfish, the cook needs to remove the inedible membrane from the fillet before cooking. The cook did not do that for my tacos or my wife's tacos. It was pretty disgusting. I am a resonable guy so I quietly let our server know what had happened. The waitress spoke to the manager, but the manager did not come to out table. The manager's way of addressing the problem was to take 1/2 off one of the orders of tacos. Considering the magnitude of the mistake, I was very dissapointed. It was one of the worst kitchen mistakes that I have ever experienced and the Manager would not even make an appearance? i am still pretty shocked. Mistakes are one thing - everyone makes them. Blowing off the customer is another matter. We tipped the waitress well - it was not her fault. This is no way to run a restaurant.

Cassidy R.

Yelp
A group of us visited this restaurant on a Saturday night recently and while the food/ views of the lake were good, the service was pretty terrible. When we arrived, we knew that there would most likely be a wait for outside seating given that it was a weekend and peak season. We were told the wait for outdoor seating was 40 minutes and we headed to the bar to wait for our table. There was only one seat available at the bar, so one of our group sat down and the rest of us planned to stand and grab a drink. When we went to order drinks, the bartender told us that we could not stand at the bar because it was against their insurance policy...which seemed completely unfathomable. I could understand this if the place was at capacity (it was not) or if the bar was 2-3 people deep waiting for drinks (it wasn't). I totally understand capacity issues in a restaurant, but never had I heard of not being able to stand at a bar while waiting for a table. This was a red flag for us but given that it was late and our names were in, we went elsewhere to wait for the table. When we returned to Garwood's for dinner a while later, we gave our name to the hostess and she escorted us to our INDOOR table. Now, we specifically asked for outdoor seating when we arrived and proceeded to wait 40 minutes for that seating as opposed to the 20-minute wait for indoor seating. When we clarified with the hostess, she completely blamed one of us in our group, claiming that we had asked for "first available" seating. This never happened and the fact that she was blaming the customer was a huge issue for us. After a few minutes, she rudely let us know that we would have to wait yet another 20 minutes for outdoor seating since we didn't clarify with her at the beginning. The second time around, we were able to all get seats at the bar and we waited for our table. When we finally sat down to eat, all of the other tables were finishing up and paying their bills. While we were waiting for our food, waitresses were busy rushing around and starting closing procedures. Now granted, we were sat close to closing time, but to start shutting down the patio while our group and another group were still waiting for food doesn't exactly scream "welcoming". Overall, I would skip this place just based on the service we received. We never received an apology for the seating mixup or the extra wait time and the food wasn't good enough to warrant a return trip.

Clare W.

Yelp
Asked for a seat outside, and--after a ~15-minute wait (it was peak dining hour)--they were happy to accommodate. The food was wonderful--they were accommodating of small adjustments to the meals, quick with their service, and friendly. The five-spice salmon salad was delicious, and my dining partners also highly recommend the fish and chips

Whit W.

Yelp
Stopped on a whim while traveling through town for work. Really nice comfortable atmosphere and super sweet bartender named Brittany. Had soup and tenders from the starter menu and both were great. Will swing by again for sure!

Scott S.

Yelp
The restaurant is located by the lake. There is outdoor seating too. However, the food and service were not good. Our server was Sarah. She did not seem happy working as one. In addition, she never got me a straw I asked nor refilled my water glass. In regards to the meal, ordered the penne pasta with chicken but the chicken was lacking - maybe a total of 2 ounces. The dish tasted okay. Ordered the 6 jumbo shrimp. They were large, not jumbo. The cost was exorbitant - $17.94. I can buy 2 pounds of the same size shrimp for $16.00 at the market. Finally, the rug was stained and there was spilled food on it in several places.

Myles E.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed with this place. From spiders in our salad to 'sour cod' on our tiny fisherman's 'platter' .... the size of the spinnaker pasta (now called pesto pasta with chicken) was so small I wouldn't even consider it a kids portion. One chicken tender cut up and a handful of penne. After pointing out the spider and microscopic portions they sent out a few more shrimp and fries. We still paid for our spider salad.

Mary T.

Yelp
I forgot how much I love this place. Beautiful restaurant right on the lake. Perhaps one of the best dining experiences in all of the lake's region. Wonderful vegan selection. The butternut squash salad . . . . to die for. Best fish taco I have ever tasted. Food, location, and staff make this place a must stop dining experience.

Jay R.

Yelp
Sitting here right now and I'm not going to lie, it's pretty fucking good! Filet was on point and cooked by a boss! Medium rare was brought out to me and that is exactly how I asked for it. Like this type of joint. Walk in and feel like an underdressed popper, walk out feeling like a million bucks and full from delicious red meat! Thanks cow!

Shelley L.

Yelp
So a group of us (8 to be exact) were staying in New Durham NH for the weekend. We decided to go to Garwoods as we all liked the menu online and the selections they had. When we arrived for our reservation at 5:30 we were told that the table was not ready..... we waited When we arrived at our table service was slow unfortunately, but I didn't penalize the waitress as the place was hopping!!! More wait staff maybe on a weekend?? When we questioned why the surf and turf wasn't listed as a meal option we were told that the menu online was outdated..... When the meal arrived it was only LUKE WARM... I opted not to send it back as I wanted to dine with the group. However, the kicker was when we received the bill. The oysters on the menu were advertised at $1.00 each. When we received the bill we were charged $2.99 each... We questioned the charge and a manager/owner came to the table and stated the best they could do was $2.00 each but nothing more, rather rudely too I might add...... Really? YOUR clerical error fell on us???? bait and switch?? Unfortunately it wasn't the experience that our group was hoping for. However, the rest of our stay in the area was great..... Maybe they are in the midst of changing a few things, but I think we will pursue other options when we are in the area again.....

Christian G.

Yelp
We have been tasting lobster rolls throughout New England and Garwoods not only stands at the top of the list for the flavor of the lobster salad, but the use of a croissant instead of the traditional roll was a welcome addition. Surprisingly Lake Winnipesaukee has few lakefront dining spots, so take advantage of the outdoor seating if available.

Becky D.

Yelp
I have dined at Garwoods many times for many years. I can always count on a fresh high quality meal. Their high standard for customer service, cleanliness and overall dining experience is something that can be expected consistantly. The waterfront deck and patio is beautiful. We also enjoy arriving by boat and docking directly at the restaurant. Management is professional and staff is delightful. Thank you for serving our Wolfeboro community with an outstanding establishment.

Linda R.

Yelp
We have been to Garwoods several times before and this was our first time eating out since Covid. We sat outside and ordered the lobster roll and the fully belly fried clams. They both came with home made chips. Have to say the food was ok except the chips. They were horrible. Looked like they were cooked in the early morning so tasted stale and the oil they were fried in tasted rancid. The service was also lacking. Our waitstaff was totally indifferent to us, not even looking at us and just passing things off to us as if no interest and an after thought. Not to mention we waited 15 minutes just for a drink. The prices were extremely high for mediocre everything. But I guess they need to compensate the expense for their new deck which looked great!

Sam F.

Yelp
Our server Sarah turned what would have been a bland, tasteless, boring experience into a magical evening on the patio. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset, perfectly mixed drinks, and a symphony of flavors made specially for us by chef David. Dave's tacos were the perfect blend of textures, taste, heat, and variety. Without Dave's culinary talents and Sarah's fantastic service, our experience would have been as black and white as the wizard of oz before the tornado. Luckily, Sarah was there to lead us down the yellow brick road of flavor at garwoods. Thanks to her, I will forever call it the "emerald city" of wolfeboro. Huge thanks to Sarah and David for a great evening.
