Gass 17

Appenzell is a beautiful town with an old historic center. It is an area where great cheeses are made and in the center there is a specialized shop with a huge selection of cheeses. We visited the Gas 17 restaurant, which pleasantly surprised us with excellent food and drinks. They prepare steaks excellently and we have never had a better Cordon Blue. The desserts are top-notch and taste divine. Here you will truly enjoy every bite.

Burger is good but does not include fries. Other sandwiches is also good. You get charge for a bottle of water from the tap & is not cheap either. Busy at most times and servers can take time to serve.

The open grill 🔥 is an eye catcher, and the staff friendly and helpful . We had the cheese and meat platter which was very tasty. Then the chef's burger 🍔 with beer bun. The meat was delicious, but the bun too chewy for my taste. Desert was Three kinds of sweet delicacies with an espresso. Highly recommended 👍🏼 😀

We visited this restaurant for the first time. We arrived around past 5 p.m. and were given the option to choose between the lunch and dinner menus. We opted for the hamburger with French fries, same option was available on both menus. For drinks, we opted for tap water, which was 300 ml and priced at CHF 2 for two people. The hamburger with French fries cost CHF 21.50 per person. Tbh, the fries were not what we had anticipated. They were extremely thin, almost as if they were made from potato powder? As for the hamburgers, we expected a hamburger bun since the name clearly indicated “hamburger,” but ours resembled a sandwich more than a hamburger. If you’re a fan of the classic American-style hamburgers, this place might not be your cup of tea. The meat here has a distinct taste of spices, leaning towards vegan meat?, which might not be to everyone’s liking. Despite these minor disappointments, the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant, and the staff were friendly and nice.

Just arrived in precious Appenzell looking for a place to have lunch. I find this darling place a few steps from my hotel and sit outside in perfectly sunny weather. I order the chicken 🐓 breast with potatoes. My darling and friendly server doing her very best to speak a bit of English, brings a platter of sauces, from Chimmichurri to chutney, herb butter and spicy ketchup. I’m immediately impressed. The chicken arrives artistically presented and perfect prepared. Crispy skin, juicy and moist. Combined with the sauces and the luscious potatoes, I’m convinced this is by far the best meal I’ve had over the past month traveling around Europe. The coffee is also delicious. One of the best pork chops we have had in our lives! It was tender, juicy, packed with flavour. So delicious we went back twice. The risotto on both days were also very tasty - the lemon & rosemary as well as the tomato & mascarpone cheese. Chicken breast was well cooked, not dry at all. Chef Burger was good too. Service was attentive. Will definitely be back the next time we visit Appenzell.

This place was awesome. Excellent customer service and amazing food. We’re big foodies and have high standards. The lentils were pretty good but didn’t knock my socks off - what did impress us most was the pork chop - one of the best we’ve ever had in our lives and the build your own pizza on Monday’s. We liked it so much we went back twice in 3 days. I forgot to take photos of the pork chop but trust me it’s worth it.

What a wonderful restaurant in a charming town. We had a delicious pumpkin soap. Followed by a pork chop. The waiter was great and the environment very quaint.

Had dinner here last night and it was outstanding! Great English speaking staff and menus. Food was kind of tapas style and was amazing. My wife had the lamb fillet (which I had some of) and I had the salmon. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly. They gave us a complimentary watermelon soup to taste at the start and it was amazing. The food is presented equally as well as it tastes. I would go back in a heartbeat. It is expensive compared to Australia but do is everything in Switzerland!

Had a fantastic salad, cauliflower soup and a beer on a snowy afternoon. Great ambiance and friendly service.
