"Alte Mainmühle German for “Old Millwheel,” Alte Mainmühle is located at the foot of Würzburg’s oldest bridge, offering sweeping vistas over the Main River to the Marienberg Fortress and surrounding vineyards. In addition to this picturesque setting, the restaurant offers traditional charm in spades, from timber-heavy dining rooms to a fireplace and double balcony with views of the bridge and fortress. On the menu, you’ll find a great selection of local beers and Franconian wines, plus a variety of seasonal cuisine, often prepared with a modern twist. Expect everything from potato-crusted zander and boiled veal in horseradish sauce to vegetarian options like potato-and-sauerkraut dumplings served with melted onions."

Dinner with THE view of Fortress Marienberg and the iconic Main Bridge, but also with incredibly slow and rather inattentive service. After being warmly welcomed (only table inside on a slower Sunday evening) and seated by a gentleman, our early arriving party was not offered drinks/served until the missing two joined way later: our waitress wasn’t busy, but just didn’t seem to care. Food was freshly prepared, well presented and tasty, but missing the wow factor given the hefty price tag. Appetizer portions are on the small side. Biggest reason for just four star was however the barebones service and often empty glasses. If your waitress rather chats with her colleagues than…

We stopped here and had a fantastic meal. Our server recommended a nice riesling which was not only reasonably priced, but a nice pour as well. We then told him we were tired of sausages and kraut and wanted a recommendation on a lunch. He recommended either the pork shoulder or the boiled veal with horseradish sauce. We ordered one of each and they were fantastic! The pork and veal were so tender and the sauces were wonderful. Unfortunately there was more than we could eat, but we finished the meats. We later came back for a glass of wine to drink on the Wine Bridge. Fantastic place to visit, but skip breakfast if you're having lunch there!

This restaurant is in an old building on the Alte Mainbrücke bridge - the old medieval bridge that crosses the Main river and leads to the center of the city. For atmosphere, you can't beat it, and the food was great! The bridge is now just for pedestrians so the area can get pretty busy.

This is a wine bar and restaurant at the east (Old Town) end of Alte Mainbrucke. In addition to taking meal here there is a take-away order window where you can buy glasses of wine as well as holiday glühwein during the Christmas season to enjoy outside while spending time at the old bridge. Opening hours are 11am to 11pm daily. We stopped here a couple times during our recent visit to Würzburg and enjoyed glühwein (€5 + €5 deposit for the glass). Servings came in an Alte Mainmuhle signature glass which is nice and importantly it tasted very good, nice to have while taking in the views along the river and just enjoying the festive and friendly atmosphere of this location in the Old Town.

We arrived early for lunch on a busy & sunny Saturday. Our friendly waiter seated us inside with a perfect window view of the fortress and bridge. The plates are artfully served with delicious and generous portions. Great wine menu & of course, excellent bier! We enjoyed the beef consommé, beef tartare + shared a plate of outstanding deer gulasch with dumplings that had a hint of caraway. This is the place to be on a weekend as the town fills the bridge for glasses of wine from the drinks window! 5€ glass deposit, refunded on return. Such a laidback wine city, loved the vibe.

I love the crispy fish, and the winter vegetables do surprise me! And the weather does its best!

Nice atmosphere, by the river. Traditional frankonian dishes, with a modern twist. Food is ok, but not outstanding (one could say, overpriced). Good place for wine! Having a glass of wine on the bridge in the afternoon, is a must!
